PSL 6 and Islamabad’s Chances
One of the biggest cricketing events in the country is just a month away. As teams finalize their rosters for the upcoming HBL PSL 6, fans of the teams are excited to know that what chances their favorite teams have in the 6th season. Cricket festivity will quadruple as soon as the tournament starts, let us examine all the HBL PSL Teams and their chances based on their final list of players. Firstly, in this article, we will be taking a look at Islamabad United. With a new coach, Johan Botha, team will look to improve their performances as they were last in the points table last season. With one of the successful teams in first 4 editions of PSL, Islamabad United (IU) will be searching for the right combination at the start of the tournament.
Let us examine what Islamabad United have in their bag.
As far as the retentions are concerned, Islamabad United have tried to retain those players that have been associated from earlier days with the team. Likes of Shadab Khan, Hussain Talat, Musa Khan, Zafar Gohar, Asif Ali and Faheem Ashraf had started their PSL careers with IU and all of them have been able to represent Pakistan based on those performances. In addition to that, two foreign players; Colin Munro and Alex Hales have also been retained. Munro is a T20 impact player and has been retained having decent PSL 5. Munro scored in excess of 200 runs with an average of 35 and strike rate of 140 in 8 matches. Alex Hales was one of the major retentions, he was traded back with Colin Ingram going back to Karachi and Hales to IU. Openers were a missing link this year for IU as Ronchi isn’t available, therefore, a strong opening stand is required for which Hales is brought in. Alex Hales was with Karachi last year and played outstandingly well in which he scored 272 runs with an average of 45.33 and a strike rate of 148. He was also in the top 6 hitters of the tournament with 12 sixes in 9 matches.
Now let’s take a look at the picks in draft, some of the gun players recruited are Hasan Ali, Lewis Gregory, Reece Topley and Chris Jordan (supplementary). Although, some of the surprise picks were Iftikhar Ahmed, Rohail Nazir, Phil Salt, Lewis Gregory and Iftikhar Ahmad. Talking of the overall look of the team, Islamabad looks a pretty decent team with covering majority of their basis. One of the areas of improvement for Islamabad United were their bowling in the powerplay and in the end. Highest number of wickets were only 9 and that too were by Shadab Khan, none of the other bowlers were able to get more than 9 wickets. Economy rate of all the bowlers were above 9, although, the league had an economy rate of 8.5 overall. Keeping in mind the bowling disasters, IU has drafted in Hasan Ali, Reece Topley, Muhammad Wasim Jr, Akif Javed and Chris Jordan. Accompanying them will be retained players, Faheem Ashraf and Musa Khan.
IU had not retained any of the wicket keeping options, therefore, they had to pick at least one wicket keeper as well. They went for 2 options including local and foreign with the likes of Rohail Nazir and Phil Salt. IU has done pretty well in the all-rounder’s category too with Shadab leading the pack followed by a long list of all-rounders including Hussain Talat, Faheem Ashraf, Zafar Gohar, Lewis Gregory, Iftikhar Ahmad, Chris Jordan and Ahmed Safi Abdullah. Batting has been pretty decent in last tournament as well in which Munro, Shadab, and other top order had a decent run. At present, Asif Ali and Hussain Talat have been in the form of their life in the ongoing domestic tournaments, whereas, Munro and Hales are hitting hard consistently in Big Bash which could make IU’s batting quite long and threatening for the opponents. Spin bowling is also addressed which includes 2 Left-Arm spinners, Zafar Gohar (recently debut for Pakistan) and Ahmad Safi (34 wickets in 10 matches in QET); 1 Off-spinner in Iftikhar Ahmad and leading the team is the leg spinner Shadab Khan.
Tumblr media
The most likeable factor of IU is that they not only have a strong first XI but they also have like for like replacement options, such as, Gregory for Jordan, Rohail Nazir for Phil Salt, Bowling option of Reece Topley and Spin options as mentioned above. With decent enough choices and availability of players in the squad, IU looks pretty good to go on at least till the play-off’s stages. As far as the team on paper is concerned, we rate them to be counted upon top 3 teams in the tournament.
Potential First XI of IU could be as follows:
1.       Alex Hales
2.       Colin Munro
3.       Phil Salt
4.       Shadab Khan
5.       Iftikhar Ahmad
6.       Hussain Talat
7.       Asif Ali
8.       Faheem Ashraf
9.       Chris Jordan
10.   Hasan Ali
11.   Muhammad Wasim Jr. / Ahmad Safi Abdullah
However, following can prove to be match winners for IU

Sarfaraz Ahmed in the Pakistan Cricket team (T20I)
Pakistan team has just arrived in Australia for three T20Is. Which will start from 3rd November which will then be followed by two Test matches starting from Nov 21st.
The Pakistan T20 team will be led by batting sensation Babar Azam. While the test side will be under the hood of the veteran batsman Azhar Ali after former wicket-keeper/captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed was relieved of his duties from all three formats while being replaced by Muhammad Rizwan with the gloves.
While the removal of Sarfaraz Ahmed seemed to be coming from a long way, especially with his dismal performances and lack of impact with the bat of late, an uproar has been created demanding justice for the captain of the defending PSL champions, Quetta Gladiators.
His removal from the Test and One Day sides was perhaps inevitable and is quite undebatable, especially with Muhammad Rizwan scoring heaps of runs in both formats. The main problem lies in the impact of his presence in the T20I side. I try here to dissect his numbers in the T20 format.
Sarfaraz Ahmed Statistics
Statistics for Sarfaraz Ahmed by Batting Position
Tumblr media
Sarfaraz Ahmed stats by Batting position
It’s no surprise that Sarfaraz Ahmed has never been at home while batting down the order whether in the One Day or T20 format and his number reflect that. Especially so in the T20 format. And the most worrying part is that his strike rate falls considerably as he bats down the order. Something that is opposite to what you would expect to see. But at the same time, his numbers at the top of the order are staggering. As solid as he seems at the top of the order despite his troubles picking variations at times (in his defense, a general problem for Pakistan of late) the way he plays spin in the middle order and his knack to rotate the strike, he perhaps still should find a place in the Pakistan side.
Batting Averages for Pakistan in the Last Two Years
Tumblr media
Best Batsmen for Pakistan in the Last Two Years
One of the more unfortunate things for Pakistan is that three of the top 5 batsmen with the highest averages for Pakistan in the last two are no longer in the squad. These were key players that helped put Pakistan number 1 in the ICC rankings.
If you filter the numbers for a minimum of 5 matches played, Sarfaraz Ahmed falls as the 4th best batsman Pakistan have had. While his strike rate is the second highest of the top 7 with the highest averages. Although it is important to note that his average falls 27% from Shoaib Malik at number 3.
Batting Averages for Pakistan in the Last One Year
Tumblr media
Best Batsmen for Pakistan in the Last One Year
Sarfaraz’s struggles have been prominent in the last one year where he’s barely made par. And that with a significant drop in his strike rate. While this was the primary reason for his omission, his overall impact as a player and as captain was arguably greater than what these numbers show. Here is a dissection of these innings:
In these 10 matches he only came in to bat 6 times. In one of those he didn’t face a ball. While in another, he came in to bat at number 7 with 6 overs to go. Of the remaining 4, Pakistan won one where he made his best in this time period of 34 and his partnership with Hafeez won Pakistan the match. The rest of the three matches were the most recent against Sri Lanka where all three times he came in to bat on a slow wicket where he got a start in each with failure to convert.
The prominent omission from the future plans of the PCB seems to be Muhammad Hafeez. Who, despite the common belief that Babar Azam is the best batsman for Pakistan in T20Is, has shown with numbers that he has been by far, the go-to guy for Pakistan in this format.
Replacing Sarfaraz Ahmed
For those of us who’ve seen the National T20 cup in Faisalabad, it seems obvious that the player of the tournament, Muhammad Rizwan would deserve a place in the T20 side. The Peshawar born wicket-keeper/batsman scored 215 runs in 6 matches at an average of 43 for KP.
Sarfaraz on the other hand scored 131 runs in 5 matches at 26.20. Finishing as the joint second highest run scorer for Sindh, 5 runs behind Khurram Manzoor. Both played at nearly the same Strike rate in the tournament. While Rizwan is probably the best keeper in the country, Sarfaraz is certainly not far behind. Especially with him working particularly on his fitness of late. As a batsman, both lack the ability to hit quick cameos. Sarfaraz Ahmed however, definitely has the edge while batting in the middle order. Which is due to his knack of keeping the scoreboard ticking and keep the spinners on their heels.
Captaincy
The numbers as a captain for Sarfaraz Ahmed both in domestic and in international T20s have been staggering. Apart from 11 consecutive series wins, a record on its own, under Sarfaraz Ahmed, Pakistan won 78.4% of their matches. Which is the second highest in the history of T20I cricket, behind Asghar Afghan’s 80.4% which mostly includes Associate Nations. Pakistan won series in England, West Indies, New Zealand and a tri series against Zimbabwe and Australia in Zimbabwe apart from wins at home and in the UAE.
Sarfaraz also has the highest win percentage in the PSL. Under his captaincy, Quetta Gladiators have played three out of four finals and have won the latest edition of the tournament. Quetta Gladiators, under the captaincy of Sarfaraz, also have the highest win percentage in the PSL. They have won 26 out of 43 matches at a win percentage of 61.9%.
Finally for the argument that it was the players who won the matches and not the captain. I would argue that the same can be said for Imran Khan, in the 1992 world cup. He scored 185 runs in 8 matches at an average of 30.83 while picking up 7 wickets at 35.9 a-piece. Getting the best out of his players and using them tactically at the best place possible is the main job of the captain. Something Sarfaraz has done well throughout his T20 career. It would be arrogant to write off the high number of wins with different teams as mere coincidence.
The replacement of Sarfaraz Ahmed has good arguments on both sides. I just argue that it’s not wise to replace an excellent captain on a minor slump in form. Especially with the World T20 less than a year away. And if he was going to be replaced, it should have be with someone who has experience of captaincy and has a resume to back up his elevation to captaincy. The National T20 has shown how much the current captain, Babar Azam needs to learn and has cemented how good a limited overs captain Imad Wasim is. I would just hope that for Pakistan’s sake, Babar can learn on the job quick.

“It is going with out pronouncing Five-Zero defeat is a unhappiness irrespective of whichever layout it occurs in or who the opposition is. While we misplaced 6 fits in a row, I used to be in point of fact inspired via the way in which we fought again within the T20I collection. The victory within the T20I collection displays the nature and mindset of our facet which is a large certain and an excessively encouraging signal for us. Having stated that, it’s also necessary that we should acknowledge that our batting has all the time struggled in New Zealand. Our bowlers, a few of who have been traveling New Zealand for the primary time, discovered it difficult to regulate to the bowling prerequisites there. Robust winds have been an issue for our bowlers, however I’d nonetheless give them immense credit score for making an effort to regulate to native prerequisites there,” Mahmood pens.
The 42-year-old notes it is vital for Pakistan to be informed from their errors and fortify for the long run.”What we wish to focal point on is the truth that we made errors and we wish to paintings on the ones issues and scale back the ones forms of issues someday. Now we have a difficult excursion of England bobbing up the place we can play Check fits and after that we need to play in opposition to Zimbabwe and South Africa, adopted via the 2019 Global Cup. These kind of excursions will probably be in puts which will probably be a long way other from the Asian or sub-continental prerequisites we’re used to. We will be able to need to do our homework and arrangements to be sure that we be triumphant clear of house. Particularly, our batsmen will wish to suppose ‘out of the field’ with the intention to make the most of their talents and ranking runs in out of the country prerequisites,” Mahmood writes.
He, then again, expects a greater efficiency from his top-order batsmen.”Sadly, the similar can’t be stated about our batsmen as none of our top-order batsmen may just make any important rankings throughout the ODI collection. If the highest 5 or 6 batsmen don’t ranking runs then you’re going to all the time battle as a workforce, irrespective of the braveness proven via the more youthful batsmen on the seven, 8, 9 sort positions which is a good signal for us someday,” Mahmood provides.
Mahmood additionally believes that deficient preparation for the excursion and fatigue is to be blamed for the efficiency of the workforce.”The information are that after we communicate of arrangements for this excursion, we had gamers who have been coming in after taking part in T10 cricket which wasn’t superb. On height of that, we misplaced the products and services of Usman Khan Shinwari and Junaid Khan because of accidents, while Mohammad Aamer and Hasan Ali have been additionally sporting niggles as they went into this excursion. I can upload that if one performs such a lot cricket, then irrespective of age, one’s frame will to find it tough to deal with such stresses and your fitness-levels inevitably endure as smartly. Regardless of the gamers making an attempt their very best to be sure that they play with the similar depth, the issue is that you can not undergo a load of global cricket while sporting niggles and affected by fatigue,” he says.
He additionally lauded Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) determination to restrict league participation via Pakistan gamers. ”Now we have had some discussions in this subject with the workforce control, the PCB, in addition to Inzamam-ul-Haq to make certain that someday, we can dangle off from giving permission to the gamers to play in each and every different league. Precedence in such circumstances should be given to the fitting form of preparation for any upcoming Pakistan excursions as provider to our nation takes priority over all different concerns. After all, we are not looking for the gamers to endure financially via lacking out from taking part in in overseas leagues however that should no longer occur on the expense of lack of their health on the subject of Pakistan video games.”
“They wish to go back for global cricket tasks in the similar form as they left us throughout the former collection. Them taking part in league cricket is of no actual receive advantages to Pakistan and the placement turns into worse if the participant alternatives an damage while taking part in in such leagues. Those are all skilled gamers they usually all have a need to play for Pakistan which is why they should realise that while they are able to get some momentary monetary receive advantages via taking part in in leagues, they’re going to to find it tough to maintain a world profession within the long-run,” he writes.
Mahmood, who could also be the assistant trainer of the Karachi Kings, hopes for a greater display in PSL three.”Our squad is having a look superb for the impending PSL three despite the fact that we’ve got misplaced one of the vital gamers we picked throughout the preliminary draft and needed to to find replacements which might be additionally excellent in their very own proper. If we take the instance of Joe Denly, he performed smartly in BBL 7 for Sydney Sixers and ended up with the best possible batting reasonable for his workforce and is an especially helpful participant.”
“Then Colin Ingram who performed for Adelaide Strikers additionally ended up with excellent rankings for his facet. Tymal Turbines who’s Mitchell Johnson’s alternative is an exhilarating participant too. Aside from the overseas contingent within the Karachi squad, we’ve got the native boys within the form of Mohammad Amir and Babar Azam who’re in excellent shape now. With the squad we’ve got, confidently, we can produce higher ends up in this 12 months’s PSL,” he concludes.

Batting Averages for Pakistan in the Last Two Years
Best Batsmen for Pakistan in the Last Two Years
One of the more unfortunate things for Pakistan is that three of the top 5 batsmen with the highest averages for Pakistan in the last two are no longer in the squad.
Batting Averages for Pakistan in the Last One Year
Best Batsmen for Pakistan in the Last One Year
Sarfaraz’s struggles have been prominent in the last one year where he’s barely made par.

Pakistan Super League 2: Preview of Final Match 'Gladiators vs Zalmi'
Every Pakistani die-hard cricket fan is much happy today because of Final match of Pakistan Super League Season 2 (PSL-2) to be held in Lahore today.
Finally, Cricket lovers of Pakistan will enjoy the big moment in the history of Pakistan Cricket as this is not just an event's final but also CRICKET is BACK in Pakistan with some Big International stars to be feature in this all important final.
It's again Quetta Gladiators who qualified for Final but the other team is Peshawar Zalmi who is playing their 1st ever final of PSL.
Both the teams faced each other in 6 matches so far and almost every time the close contests added the value in the game. One of the matches was witnessed in this season of PSL where Gladiators defended a total of 200 runs by just 1 run against Zalmi. So far, Gladiators won 3; Zalmi won 2 and 1 match was not resulted because of rain.
RECENT FORM:
Zalmi in this season played 10 games so far and won 5, lost 4 and 1 not-resulted
Gladiators played 10 games as well but won 6 games, lost 3 and 1 not-resulted
One of the most entertaining knock in Gladiators vs Zalmi close contests
PLAYERS in FORM:
Kamran Akmal in batting is in great form where he is having a purple cap on his head because of 'highest run scorer (313) of PSL-2' with an average of 31.3 including superb century knock in the event which helped Zalmi to paly the FINAL of event. Ahmad Shehzad (241) who already scored 3 fifties in the event will be the key batsman of Gladiators.
Kamran (most runs), Wahab (2nd most wickets) in PSL 2
Wahab Riaz in bowling is fully justifying his skills throught the season 2 and he is on 2nd spot in most wickets column i.e. 13 after Sohail Khan (16). On the other side, Muhammad Nawaz who took most wickets i.e. 9 for Gladiators in the tournament will be one other then experienced Zulfiqar Babar on whom Gladiators will be eyeing for.MISSING Players in FINAL:
As the final of the event is set-up in the Gaddafi stadium Lahore, so Gladiators will miss players like Kevin Peterson, Rilee Rossouw, Tymal Mills in this game which can be really crucial for them in ensuring balance in the side.
Shahid Afridi, Kevin Peterson, Rilee Rossouw will be not part of Final match
Darling of the crowd Shahid Khan Afridi will be not part of this all-important event because of a server injury in previous game. It'll be a great set-back for Zalmi as Afridi was in tremendous hitting form in the event but unlike Gladiators, they have international stars who are touring with them throughout the PSL-2 will be part of the final.
Final Verdict:
By evaluating/assessing several things, I still believe that both the teams are well-capable to win the title. Undoubtedly, Zalmi on paper look like strong side with some greats in their squad. On the other hand, Gladiators must be well-prepared for this game under the supervision of Sir Viv Richards who is sort of great motivation for youngsters.
Peshawar Zalmi has more international stars then Quetta Gladiators in their squad for Final of PSL-2
Nonetheless, the game is not about win/loss for FANS but it's all about enjoying the best cricketing moments in the beloved country Pakistan. The passion, enthusiasm and dedication of fans throughout the tournament were amazing and hopefully things will be finished in grand style.
HISTORICAL MOMENT: A number of electrifying fans are expected tonight at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore
