With wide yellow petals and a dark reddish-brown centre. Either someone was really hungry when this plant was named its quite obvious where the playful ‘egg and bacon’ imagery comes from. The little tube stock plants are covered in honey-gold flowers, so imagine a full-grown shrub of this in spring, glowing with little pea blooms and alive with butterflies feeding on the nectar. It occurs naturally over a wide area from the south Moreton district near Brisbane down through the coastal region of New South Wales to Bega on the south coast. Flowering is from spring to summer and the flowers are bright yellow in colour. Flowering density is high. Seed is ripe in late summer to early autumn. Name meaning: Pultenaea villosa Pultenaea - after Richard Pulteney (1730-1801), an English botanist; villosa - from the Latin, villosus, meaning shaggy. The language of flowers: The flower language of peas is "enjoyment that lasts forever," "happiness that always comes," and "promise."
