in diablo 1 + 2 it leaned heavily into the corruption angle, aping the satanic panic of the era to deal with dark rituals in dank basements, twisted devil-forms that looked nothing like demons at a glance, but unmistakably had the presence of hellish creation. The world was grounded and gothic, lived in and loved, but crawling with evils lurking just under the surface in forgotten churches, crypts, and tunnels.

now everything in diablo looks like various concept arts for satan, the guy, like they were trying to find a design thruline to make a line of cartoony action figures or counts-as minis for warhammer.

in diablo 2, especially, demons used to look appropriate to the regions they were fought in, as if they were mocking the mortal world they were seeking to colonise - in the europe, swarming horned hobs, evil hedgehogs, corrupted nuns, demonic livestock parading as soldiers, and brutish trolls from the hills - in the desert, animal-skulled mummies commanding swarms of the undead, pantherine skirmishers, bipedal scarabs, and snake-men - in the jungle, possessed trees, devil gorillas, giant bugs, caricatures of colonial-era "jungle pygmy" stereotypes, and satanic-aztec cultists - in Hell, alien-looking perversions of "mortal purposes" to eat and breed, actual cartoon satans, and bone-crusted knights of evil - on the besieged slopes of the origin-mountain, bloated slave drivers lashing twisted pigs shaped only for war into a frenzy, beast-tanks and impish soldiers and artillery defending layers and layers of trenches and fortresses and towers in a parody of World War 1, the ice itself rising into jagged avatars of entropy, and finally some fucking demon t. rexes as though fossils really were a test of faith.

The Moonlight Forest was the only place free from the rule of the Night Mother. Only there could the people bask in the bright moonlight and enjoy the grace it brought to the living. It's fun to reminisce the times where people (myself included) theorized about the Moonlight Forest being a direct parallel to Khaenri'ah given its close location to the Abyss —Land of the Night— and that there existed people with a specific genome because of their exposition to the moonlight. It gets even funnier when thinking back about Ronova being potentially the Crimson Moon and there being people with a particular genome too with unique powers drawn from it, just not as idyllic.

Putting this little tidbit aside, I'm heavily considering to alter Dain's background. Given that I barely touch on it and that my portrayal takes creative inspirations, it won't really change the way I portray him so it shouldn't interfere in any of the interactions I have, either.

It's the thought that Irminsul is said to bask perpetually under the moonlight, in combination to the tease that there is a power that precedes the elements and that it could be related to the Ancient Moon Remnants or the moon being a power of its own outright. Perhaps this weekend I'll have the braincells to write a proper post about this and modify his background section accordingly.

The Princess thought to herself. "You will." She had not expected to hear an answer. The Princess turned and saw a young prince. "I am the Prince of the Kingdom of Light from the other side of the world," the prince said to the shocked Princess. The Prince shone with an extraordinary light. The people of the Moonlight Forest had never seen such vitality. For as the Prince strolled through the forest, life flourished around him: new leaves sprouted and the Princess and her people grew stronger. He had come to save them. The foolish pygmy thanked the Princess. They walked into the cave where the Nightgaunt resides and saved another pygmy, who was timid, from the top of a stalactite. "Not… not to brag, but I… I came here to have a fierce fight with the Night Mother's minions!" The timid pygmy explained. They set foot on a barren field and found a shrunken pygmy in the quicksand. "I wanted to see my garden but somehow got lost." Rubbing his withered palms, the shrunken pygmy grinned. They snuck into the nest of shadows and rescued a carefree pygmy from the clutches of carnivorous mushrooms. "I was out for a walk and somehow got trapped here." the carefree pygmy sighed. One by one, the Princess and the Prince saved the deformed pygmy's five brothers. The kind Princess said to them: "Now that you are all my people, please let me take you to the Kingdom of Light. It's a place that can bring sight to the blind, wisdom to the foolish, courage to the timid, and reinvigoration to the shrunken. As a princess, this is my gesture of gratitude to you." On hearing this, the pygmies were elated. To show their gratitude, they went along on the journey to serve the Prince and the Princess. On the surface, the six pygmies were true to the Princess and Prince, and followed them everywhere. But they were still heinous creatures from the Land of Night, and corruption flowed in their veins. As the days traveling to the Kingdom of Light grew long and dangerous, the root of evil would again blossom in their hearts. Fear gave root to malice, and out of malice grew evil scheming. The six pygmies started to devise their nasty plot. The blind pygmy opened his sightless eyes and enjoyed the sunlight greedily. "Why not keep the Prince with us forever? Instead of believing in unfathomable promises, securing the sunlight before us is our best bet." The foolish pygmy gently patted his scabies-ridden head and gulped the light-filled air rapaciously. "Hehehe, I… I think we should kidnap the Prince and use… use him to make us smarter. That's the smart way!" The timid pygmy swung his tiny fists in the air and yelled. "All that rascal did was save our lives and now he acts so condescendingly, treating us like servants. I shall challenge him to a duel!" The shrunken pygmy squinted in disdain. His complexion wrinkled up like a piece of crumpled paper. "Brothers, you have been hiding in the shadows for too long. The darkness has clouded your judgment. It is new life that we need in order to survive. I say we use the corpse of the Prince as fertilizer so my garden might flourish again." The carefree pygmy sighed and looked sullen. "We'd better get this over with quickly… If it weren't for them, these evil thoughts wouldn't have entered my mind, and I wouldn't have become so somber." There was one pygmy who did not join the discussion. This is not because he was not evil, but because the guilt of betraying his savior overcame his wicked nature enough to make him keep his mouth shut. He couldn't even say a single word. Nevertheless, the guilt could not completely suppress his corrupt nature and the pygmies all agreed to the scheme. They decided to poison the Prince's water.

I feel like, yall and Katsuki have a kid, it's going good, first day of school is tomorrow hell yeah right?

You spend hours convincing Katsuki that it's gonna be okay, nothing is gonna happen to baby, it's fine.

Then baby cries as soon as you both go to leave and Katsuki breaks hard.

He spends the day parked outside the kindergarten some days making sure his baby is okay 😭

You know how sometimes the parent has to stay for a little bit once class time actually starts just because the kid won't calm down? There's Kat with your weepy baby in his lap during opening ceremony, see; days of the week song and counting to ten, red faced n trying to hold back his own tears LMFAO because he honestly doesn't want to leave either.

(You ask him about it later, and he's defending himself with: what if something goes wrong? They don't like the lunch that's provided, or trip and fall in the unfamiliar hallways? Or god forbid, the teacher's an asshole and takes it out on the students???

Just like in the past I talked in depth about the importance behind one of Dain's forebears being a mystic voyager unrelated to Teyvat and how this affects to who he is as well as the potential he can reach, it is also relevant to touch onto the subject of his angelic traits —some of which he does exhibit— and how they affect him to who he is too.

Descriptively, angels are said to have beautiful forms that wore crowns of sevenfold radiance wrought of the earth's bones (highly likely Ley Lines) and the stars of the sky. They had pale silver wings that shimmered like moonlit flames and horns. The skin of one of them —Nabu Malikata— is described as sparkling with lunar glow and whose face was indescribably beautiful.

Note ₁: In the 「Pale Princess and the Six Pygmies」 book collection, exists a civilization that lives in the Moonlight Forest. These people are described to be «born with fair skin, light-colored hair, and bright blue eyes. Perhaps the constant lack of sunlight and the nourishment of the moonlight was the reason for their beauty, giving them an appearance different from the abhorrent creatures lurking at the edge of the forest.» Irregardless if this location makes direct reference to Khaenri'ah or not, every known Khaenri'ahn (no matter if pure-blooded or not) was depicted with light eyes, some of being bright blue —among which Dain is—.

Cognitively, angels have shown to have knowledge of Teyvat's real workings as well as the ability of prophecy several years into the future. This may be due to the strong association angels seem to have with Irminsul and the Ley Lines by extension.

Note ₂: Dain has also shown a strong capability for foresight as well as for gathering knowledge of several individuals in ways that they haven't disclosed to others, furthermore, he has also shown awareness about the workings of Teyvat in a way that would be only possible for special beings such as those of divine nature. Two of his titles that stem from the same through different translations are «Bough Keeper» and «Truthseeker» which may allude to his connection to Irminsul. Moreover, Irminsul has been described as the Tree of Time and another of Dain's titles that was released in his marketing drop is «Confluence Between the Past and the Future», which gives further credence that there is an intimate connection between both. Lastly, his older brother Vedrfolnir is known as the Visionary which could be considered as the highest title for an indivual with a penchant for foresight, given that his prophecies may affect the entirety of the world's fate.

Angels (and Seelie by extension) have exhibited other abilities of interest, such as:

✧ Interaction with the environment: Seelie are able to influence their environment to open paths where usually it should be impossible to access by other means. Regardless if it is due to their connection to Ley Lines (and thus to reality) or otherwise, one could infer that they have influence over the reality around them and are able to bend it to their will.

Note ₃: Dain has exhibited a similar ability himself when thinking about the fact that the eye of the first Field Tiller was within his body or that he can seize an enemy through an unknown form of energy via telekinesis.

✦ Khvarena formation: While created by another angel —Nabu Malikata—, the topic of interest is what Khvarena does exactly. It is a form of energy that can be assimilated with other elements and thus gaining new attributes that by themselves they wouldn't have. It's also contrary to the Abyss, being able to purify it and heal the affected land by it. It is also a giver of life as it's seen with the mystical bird Simurgh and the Pari. The latter are also able to interact with the environment via the Khvarena they wield and, at the end of their lives they are converted into Plumes of Purifying Light, carriers of past memories.

Note ₄: Dain's form of energy was shown to be opposing to the Abyss, as it is able to dispel a barrier of the same nature of the Nameless City in the depths of the Chasm as well as he's able to lift protective barriers that impede the pass of others, which is one of the abilities the Pari exhibit through their use of Khvarena.

✧ Ley Line creation: Via previously existing ones. The Lord of Night in Natlan was able to reconstruct the Ley Line system, thus giving birth to a unique environment known as the Night Kingdom after the original ones were destroyed during the War of Vengeance. An important detail to note is her intrinsic connection to souls, as she is able to feel their suffering as if it were her own.

Note ₅: In 「Bedtime story」, Dain felt a strong pain byproduct of the Ley Line modification that was taking place at the moment because of Caribert's doings with the quasi-finished Loom of Fate. This can be inferred as him having a sentience of what happens with the Ley Lines and by extension, Teyvat in itself as it is perfused with them.

✦ Life creation: Through their wounds. Such was Nabu Malikata's case as she was hurt and from her blood, springs and streams came to existence which subsequently flowed into gardens. The Jinn were born from the water lilies that grew in those gardens.

While these weren't innate to Dain's birth, many of these traits served as potentials that he could come to have domain over or not with the passing of his life. Besides what was mentioned before and as alluded in previous headcanons, he also possesses the ability to heal and purify —originally linked with Irminsul— which he's come to master the more he got in touch with his own heights of enlightenment and of getting out of the shackles of corruption and of the curse that make this endeavor difficult.
