Ma'jahrann's parents I drew for ToyHouse. Also, a little tidbit about why she looks like this and an unposted sketch!
Mama: Elaahni, anequinan dancer. From a large clan. She used to be quite the local star in competitive fields before moving away to start a family. It was quite a fuss but she's an expert at getting what she wants and winning over the crowds.
Papa: Qa'Husar, from urban Pellitine, store owner and ferryman. His family are estranged from him. He was traveling for work when he fell in love with Elaahni and asked for her hand.
They live together in a small town in the Topal region. Here, they're both dressed in southern fashion!

hi! so, first of all, i love your khajiit art, it's awesome to see someone expanding on khajiit lore in such a thoughtful and interesting way. second of all, i have been looking for ages for any information on marriage in khajiit culture and i have found little. obviously there ARE marriages in elsweyr, but i wanna know traditions: what clothes are worn, what kinds of rings are exchanged, if any, what foods are eaten, etc. but i cant find anything! do you have opinions on this? i'd love to hear!
thank you very much! i can't help with official lore sources (since ESO came out i stopped following that :')) but i do have my own headcanons on the matter!
marriages are a big deal when it involves the linking of two notable families/clans. in the northern regions, where clans are more important to everyday life and social structure, notable members marrying are grounds for large celebrations and larger amounts of discourse between family heads. expected topics include with whom the family will live, how both spouses fit the clan's skill and values and of course, how [insert party currently talking] is better than [insert the other clan involved]
marriages are more important by the greater families union they provide than other aspects surrounding the actual individuals. as a strongly communal society, to khajiit, marrying is first and foremost to officialize your relationship with a partner in relation to what that means for your families. the formation of elsweyr itself under that name happened with a marriage, and that historical example is propped up by some as what should be the cultural standard.
when a marriage does happen, it's a huge party. both sides of the couple's family come over to show off and have fun. it's a good occasion to meet other people and demonstrate the skills and power of you and your clan. as with all big parties, there will be guests who have nothing to do with either families coming too! those party crashers can just come for fun, but some attend to make connections and deals while taking advantage of the events.
romance, sex and having kids are not that tied to the concept. for marriages between important people, if they do have kids matters a lot but it's not that linked to the marriage in itself. khajiit are not very strict when it comes to why and how you have your lovers. it isn't a shame to have sex outside of marriage (including if you end up with kids), and if you are indeed married and want a lover, the big deal won't be ruining a sanctity of marriage, but more what your partner thinks of it. it is however considered unsightly to marry someone you do not have some feelings for, as well as marrying your friend for each other's benefits. again, greater family above all
who was there when it happens and how much you talk about your union are probably the most important factors for officializing it all. divorce isn't really a thing because khajiit aren't bureaucratic. if your marriage falls apart, it's up to you to make it clear you are ending it and face the likely familial backlash. it is however completely acceptable to marry several times - if your spouse is gone, if you find a better one... if that latter case applies and both sides don't remarry, the one who doesn't might get a bad rep. marriages between more than two people aren't a social norm, and while you might have a clan mother who celebrates that, it is rare and polyamoursly inclined khajiit tend to not marry at all and just stay lifelong lovers with their partners.
The only place in my personal khajiit musings where I explored marriage was for my own characters - Ma'Jahrann's parents, Elaahni and Qa'Husar. In those two, each hails from a very different culture - Elaahni is from a more traditionalist mid-sized Anequina clan, and Qa'Husar is from the southern parts with a more cosmopolitan structure, born to a small immediate family who dissolved as he grew up. Their marriage was a bit of a deal when it happened. Elaahni was a local celebrity and her family didn't see too kindly the nobody from those big humid cities marrying their daughter. Qa'Husar himself had to face acquiring a gigantic extended family overnight which he had no experience with. Both ended up fucking off to a smaller town where they settled on an in-between of living a settled lifestyle close with the local community, with Elaahni's close relatives visiting when they saw fit.

Alright 2 things if you don't mind helpin me out:
1. What type of Khajiit is Ma'Jahrann, if they have a set type?
2. Any advice for coming up with Khajiit names? I'm stumped :')
Ma'Jahrann is a tojay-raht. My design for them is original. Here's what she'd look like as other humanoid khajiit types, according to my design for them. Also, she's a girl, she/her pronouns :D
1. Suthay-raht, 2. Suthay (Morrowind types)
3. Ohmes-raht (Daggerfall), 5. Ohmes (Arena)
4. Tojay, 6. Tojay-raht, 7. Dagi, 8. Dagi-raht; all my designs
As for khajiit names, I love creating them. I have memorized the ta'agra phenetic inventory at this point! I use several methods to name my khajiit, which are the following, with my own examples (but keep in mind, this is for elsweyri khajiit only!):
Made up by sonority (ex: Rezad, Tebarro, Ma'Jahrann). These are just made up names who sound khajiit. For this, prefer around three syllables, CV structure. Common letters include: R, T, Sh, J, M, Z, D for consonants, A, I, O, Ay, E for vowels. I recommend looking at lists of official NPC names to get the pattern right. I pick these for my OCs via how they sound, and "look" (I have synthesia, which I know isn't everyone's case)
Common tongue meaning (ex: Softpaw). These names are "translated" into the common tongue and usually refer to something about their bearer. While most commonly seen for argonians, they are written without hyphenation and are generally shorter and with no verbs. Both sharing the same name, an argonian would prefer swims-in-the-sea, and a khajiit Seaswimmer. For khajiit, they tend to center around physical appearance, you can pick them based on your character's most striking features: bright eyes? Strong arms? Long claws?
Ta'agra meaning (Do'Kataj, Dar'Ji, Kimivari-ko). These are created from a meaningful name like the last bullet point, but translated in ta'agra. I used the dictionary + grammar of the Ta'agra project to find my translations. To note: since ta'agra is agglutinative, it makes for extremely long names, so mine tend to be cut short to keep the sonority with less syllables. Do'Kataj comes from katataj, which means "bite", in relation to her martial stature. Kimivari-ko comes from krimir vari, which means "sweet smile", or sweet-smiled. Translated in a literal and verbose way, their names would be "great warrior of the bite" and "sweet smiled scholar". These are the most fun to create for me, as they mix the meaning of (2) with the sonority of (1) and come with some brainstorming.
Using the TES1&2 name generator (Elaahni, Qa'Husar). Yes, most of my older khajiit OCs were named using it! It's very dated and imperfect but ya know, it exists. I recommend taking it with a grain of salt if you're to use it, and add prefix and suffix to the names to make it more meaningful and more up to date lorewise. Remember, one particle is normal, two is either super honorific OR your khajiit has very swollen ankles.

tell us more about majah's past!
Alright!!!She grew up in a small town in eastern Pa'alatiin, on the borders of the Topal Bay. Here, life mainly evolved around sugar culture and fishing, the few activity being selling some canes to bigger settlements. Ma'Jahrann's father, Qa'Husar, was native to the region and worked there at the docks. He met (and married) his wife Elaahni during a short trip to Nequin'al during his youth. They had two children : Zan'Sien and Ma'Jahrann, born around six years apart.Ma'Jahrann is a terribly energetic and curious kid nobody can keep in one place, and she spends a lot of time walking around the fields or among the dock workers with her brother during her first years. Soon, the little world of the town isn't enough : Elaahni's sister comes to visit often with her caravan, and wild tales of foreign lands give the small Jahrann one big need for travel. She tries to escape home several times, each time going a bit further, and breaks her distance record by spending three days hidden in her aunt's caravan towards Cyrodiil. Her parents are enraged, call their Clan Mother for council, and Jahrann is told she will have to obey her parents until she's come of age and stay with them, or else sanctions will ensure. She doesn't respect that (of course) and leaves one last time, to be left the choice between being banned from travel or get thrown out. She goes for the latter, and packs her bags to set off, first towards northern Elsweyr, then to Cyrodiil. From 14 to 20 years old, she travels around Tamriel until she finds a job for Imperial foreign affairs that she'll keep. During that time, she'll have learned several languages, calligraphy and enough talking skills to master the art of diplomacy. That's about it :0 she then comes back to Elsweyr for a little while with her fam, drops her old name and continues her career in Imperial diplomatic affairs until she's like 40 and gets bored

I'm kind of a new follower so can u post a short list of them n some details? sorry I'm on mobile so I cant check to see if u have an Oc page
i actually don’t…rip me… heres a Long list
TES OCS :Ma'Jahrann, enthusiastic and bubbly khajiit youth, walks the world on her tiny little legs out of curiosity. Clever little shit like what the khajiit are the best at, but always positive! She will end up a great diplomat one day, working in the highest spheres fo the empire! Until she grows too old for that shit and starts a pirate empire with a monkey wife? But that’s for another story…
Ishma, of full name Tanishmaël, a dad-aged bosmer hermit who would have stayed alone in his remote woods if he hadn’t met a young and lost Jahrann, after rescuing her from a bandit raid. He’s a nasty little man who loves to party and hunt, agrees with Jahrann that hoarding the crowd’s attention rules, would make dick jokes every two minutes if he wasn’t mute. He is covered in tattoos, most of them that he made himself, almost all but one of a great bird of prey with spread wings on his back - he sometimes dissapears into the wilderness on moonlit nights to return covered in scars and blood, he never speaks about it, nor about the tribe he was born in and had to leave
Elaahni, Jahrann’s mother, northern elsweyri dancer of great beauty. She embodies the pride and fierceness of northern khajiit tribes, but so gracious! She knows all about the starts and the gods. She holds a million secrets. Other call is gossip but she knows best how to use them.
Qa'Husar, Jahrann’s father, a gigantic soft khajiit man with a booming laugh, gave Jahrann his zest for life and energy. He loves his family deeply and will gush about them for hours. Dockworker, then owner of a trading post in the borders of the Topal Bay, where he lives with him family
Zan'sien, Jahrann’s older bro. Monk of Mara, loves martial arts, good heart but doesn’t talk much. As fierce as the northerners. He protects the caravn of Elaahni’s sister and I shall stop the family tree here it could go on for ages
Do'Mladkam : former slave born in a Dres plantation in Black Marsh. Alfiq-raht gifted with the art of speech, which he hides. He is extremely strong and used to work as pit fighter to earn a living. He then left the province with his little brother to go live in Senchal, were he takes the lead of one of the cities’ biggest gangs. Cunning, ruthless, his goal is to find and murder the man that owned his mother - and everyone who tries to stop him doing so. The only oc i have on the “evil” side of the alignment chart. (note : his name comes from the dunmeri Molad Kham, “fighting [fang], his old nickname. nobody knows his birth name)
S'regey (from ta'agra zregey, "burnt”) : Do'Mladkam’s younger brother. Ohmes, tall, mistaken for an Altmer by most. He was raised by his brother only, who taught him how to read and write, later on teaching him magic. After being caught stealing books, he was punished by the dunmer and had half of his face burnt as punishement - thus his name. A destruction mage expert, excellent liar, acts as right hand to his brother. Not quite evil. His brother’s plans will fail and kill him, and S'regey will run away to Hammerfell with his companion.
Rezad , my canon vestige! Khajiit poet and dockworker, killed during the ritual. A peace loving, airheaded stereotype of the tumblr artsy gay. He wishes for the war to stop. When it’ll be over, he’ll start a shop and sell instruments he’ll craft. Rezad wants to be a woodworker and hope music will repair broken souls. And one day, he will sail to another continent on a ship with golden sails. Rezad loves the sea, sings to her, and never wants to leave the sound of her waves
Rakkan, my canon Nerevarine : you see garfield? Well he is now a wooping three meters tall and extremely angry and spitefull. Gigantic tiger man. Old grouch. Was arrested for resisting arrest for petty crimes, but it turned out the angry thug may have made a hole in the wall using imperial soldiers and thats mean he’s better in a rock hole with metal bars i guess…….. has terrible impulse control. After getting plucked out of his cell for a bullshit elf prophecy in a bullshit elf land, he decides to flip off God and proceeds to do a terrible job as incarnate just to spite Azura (because he can). But things happen, Nerevar’s memories take over him and he has to kill Dagoth Ur, only being he recon considered him a friend - then takes down the Almsivi for treason and fucks off to Akavir. Not evil. Just had a shit life with a short temper.
Nad, canon dovahkiin (* not a tes oc actually ill come back to that later) : big orc gal with a sweet heart, herbalist, loves children and animals, genuinely wants to help saving the world, she’s buff green and a bit naive, not the brightest but so soft and good did I tell u i love her,;,;,,,,,,, Former Telvanni slave, used for experiments, she broke out and now she’s strong and beastlike. She will end up finding a beautiful nord wife and adopting many kids and dogs in a small house by a waterfall and be happy
NON TES OCS are they even any
(*) Nadalia, the Original Nad™! From the universe of an obscure manga called Tegami Bachi. Former scientific experiment gone wrong, rogue monster lady that walks from town to town to find small jobs to earn a living. I won’t tell more because it’s linkd to the series lore that takes hours to explain
Anhzi : little grandma butch lesbian, hunter from a hunter’s tribe. Of a few words, strong and wise, a Mom if I ever saw one. She’s always on an epic quest. Uses a giant spear. Lawfully lawful good. Loves her wife Tilao with all her heart.
C.K. : another lesbian mom but this time its like those lesbian country farmers from that meme a few months ago. Instead of rural USA, she drives her (primitive!) sky bkue jeep in forests of giant trees that took over human civilization. She’s always joking and would spend her life mimicking indiana jones, if indiana jones movies had survived in the distant future she lives in. Excellent pilot, here for the laugh, loves the thrill of the risk. My first novel character! I wqs 10 :D
