Ezra

Ezra's a killer for hire and mercenary who grew up with her partner Edward on a failed synthetic island, that was created by a big megacorp in order to create a completely self-sustained, Utopian city. It didn't work out quite as much though and became a cyberpunk-ish dystopian shithole and the only way for Ezra and her friend to escape its hellish grip was to turn towards organized crime and become really, really good at removing people from this world. The synthetic island did however become a blueprint for Albion, a futuristic, Psionic-energy fueled and successful megapolis created and maintained by the Quadratech company.

And yes, Ezra's look was heavily inspired by japanese Visual kei - as many of my characters are…

I'll probably do a more detailed write up of her someday.

That cheeky bastard

Dr. Ethan Mayer, a colleague of Loui at Quadratech, the tech company owned and operated by the City of Albion. He is the head-supervisor of the Psionics Lab - his task is to overwatch all experiments, research and tests that happen in the lab, which the creation of artificial Crystalithe, weapons, new chemical compounds and especially Psi-tech, which is an umbrella term for Psionic-powered machines and technology. With said machines he and his team create new materials or ways to produce certain materials faster, more efficiently and cheaper. Ethan and Loui's hared history actually goes way back to High School (and then University), they both were children of high status and descended from two powerful Esper clans, which were sometimes referred to by the general Public as "Magicians", a leftover term (and some think it's a slur) from the time before Psionics were discovered and the ability to manipulate the environment via Psion-interactions were akin to magic and also feared and taboo. The general public has a rather negative opinion of the clans, due to them having used their abilities as Espers in the past when it was taboo. Several conspiracy theories exist that try to paint the clans as evil, shadowy entities who supposedly used their "magic" to gain power and influence and control basically politics, governments and world history. Because of that the clans tend to stick together (and shy away from strangers, especially non-Espers, who they regard as the "ungifted"). They established schools and institutions for their children only (which has the unintended side-effect of making te public even more suspicious of their actions). Ethan and Loui went to such a school for rich and wealthy children of Esper-clans. In the beginning he and Loui were pretty close and friends - they both connected over hating their families and sheltered upbringing, but the cracks eventually started to appear when they both attended university in Cambridge - Loui - despite being a problematic edgelord with anger-management issues and having the abilties to rationalize the murder of people he deems worthless, immoral trash - has a strong moral compass and Ethan pretty much turned into a vile character that Loui started to loathe with every fiber of his being. The main issue being that despite Ethan's charming and (on the surface) nice and funny personality he is actually a cold-hearted, manipulative bitch, who is pretty self-centered and egoistic. He uses people for his own gain. He really likes to play woth the feelings of other people, which is why he tends to go for very naive (and often young of not minor) women, which really disgusts Loui. Whenever he claims he loves or likes someone that's usually an outright lie and he will dump people as soon as he has no need for them. The only person he actually seems to love is his very sick sister - and their relationship is weird, bordering on "problematic". He's very much afraid to develop the same debilitating and ultimately lethal disease as his sister and said fear (and inability to stay loyal to anyone) eventually made him betray Nils, Loui - the entire company of Quadratech and the lives of the citizens of Albion in order to follow Sargon - a deranged, near-immortal half-human - in the hopes of researching him to gain the ability to overcome his and his sister's illness. He also has a very complicated relationship with Alex. It's probably more a case of two twisted, sociopathic individuals having an on-off relationship for teh lulz than anything remotely resembling romance or true love. They are both extremely toxic people (mostly to others, they seem to work fine with each other). The head in the jar is Derrick - at that time or state he is in he is ex-president of Britannia. Derrick, like Sargon, is a Halfling and the father of Nils.

I think that's the first time ever I drew this character of mine, Nils Clarksson - who's the CEO of Quadratech, a Psionic research facility located in Albion (a fictive region and independent free state in England of my story that's set in an alternative future universe of ours).

He's a physicist who's about 175 years old as he's a Phonoi Halfling - part human and part Phonoi (a breed of intercosmic eldritch beings). However, the Phonoi part is pretty diluted and as such he mostly considers himself a human; his father Derrick - who's a race supremacist and hates humans with a fiery passion - does not and that disagreement made them mortal enemies. Plus his dad serves the interests of this shitty guy.

Over the time he adopted a few identities to hide the fact that he was aging very slowly. He was originally born in 1890s Bohemia named Hendrik. His tribe moved there from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and their earlier ancestors were part of a Proto-Germanic culture (their forefather Sargon was a raiding thief from the Steppe).

Nils was also a close friend of the Device family, a clan of powerful Espers who brought forth many important medics and researchers. He was also a collegue of Jon Device, the father of Loui and had an affair with Jon's mother. After her death Nils started to feel responsible for Loui's care since Jon was an awful father and abused Loui constantly.

Nils' generation of Halflings were all sterile (something Derrick believed was due to the mixing with "inferior humans" and not prolonged incest) and it caused him a lot of grief since he always wanted to have children of his own. That's why even after Loui had sabotaged important research, killed his own father and caused a lot of other trouble Nils still protects him and treats him very amicable. To the point where most workers and staff of Quadratech are questioning Nils' leadership (as they are tired of tolerating Loui's unhinged behaviours, lel)

Big story dump below

Third piece in my color themed portrait series of my characters. This time it's Dr. Loui Device, who I tend to draw the most, despite not being the actual main character of my story (that would be Nikolai) Loui was born and raised in Brixton, where his father owns a large estate as well as a big pharma and medical research company, Britannia Genesys Life Sciences (BGLS). He is a descendant of the Device family, a very powerful clan of Espers who have historically had a major influence on research into Psionics and the supposedly supernatural and who can trace back their origin to a woman accused of her family practicing witchcraft in the Early Modern Age - the so called "Pendle Witches". Loui's ancestors were on the forefront of making Psionic abilities known to the science world and to destigmatize the usage of this abiltiy to manipulate the matter and physics of the world. While their intentions were often good, their methods to achive certain research data and knowledge were more than often ethically questionable. Due to personal and family history reasons the Device viewed humans with low-developed psionic abilities not as proper Espers and thus as lesser. Their clan has been victim not only to be accused of witchcraft, but they were also contantly attacked and bullied for defending the usage of psionic abilities. Loui grew into a family where his father, John Device, taught him to view all other people, especially non-Espers, as potential bullies. John was a terrible narcissist and extremely clingy and egomanic - after he caught his wife and Loui's mother Rose cheating on him with a once trusted colleague and close friend of the family, Nils Clarkson (who is also half human and half eldritch being and old enough to have known Loui's great-grandfather), he became extremely possessive yet also demanding and cruel towards his son. After the death of Rose due to illness his relationship to Loui was a very confusing one, always swinging back and forth between love-bombing and affection and coldness and rejection. It turns out Loui is also an Empath, able to mentally connect with other people and feel and experience their emotions. This made the abuse even worse (and he kept his ability a secret due to it being stigmatized). He was supposed to fill his fathers shoes and those that came before him in becoming a great researcher and leading his father's company in the future - and indeed he loved science, but he felt a bit of disconnect with it, because he was kinda pushed into studying and practicing it because of his father. He generally felt that due to his upbringing and his ability none of his thoughts or feelings were ever his own, but those of others. It didn't help that his father also made everything about himself - everything Loui achieved his father eventually twisted to be his own making. He did eventually graduate in Biochemistry and marry a good teenage friend turned lover, Mary. But that marriage wouldn't last and Loui's life would turn to the worse due to several events where he eventually ends up killing a man who stalked his wife - and came to experience that due to his empathic abilities he was also experiencing that man's death. He got hooked on the feeling but his moral and ethical compass that is quite strong makes him afraid to to give in to the feeling. He divorces his wife eventually after a nervous breakdown due to fearing that he will end up hurting her. After a whole succession of not so great situations Loui eventually crosses the line and gives in and ends up killing his father - then he tried to end himself, but is stopped by Nils. Nils who feels responsible for Loui being a mess (and sees him very much as his son), takes him to Albion probably in hopes to fix him, but eventually realizes that he cannot - only Loui himself can. Loui does however continue to work for Quadratech, the main research institute and tech company of Albion which Nils heads as CEO. That's when the events of the main story begin as Loui and his collegue Ethan are sent to Britannia for a secret mission where he will meet Nikolai. So yeah, Loui is a very typical angsty edgelord with a tragic past (*cry*), a super crappy father and all that shit. He is very drug addled, suffers from insomnia and is extremely cynical. Oh, and he has anger management issues, misuses his empathy to make use of other people (and to cheat while gambling) and he loves knives. Yet he also really respects his wife (and her decision to cut him out of her life), later on loves Nikolai dearly (and unconditionally) and despite being a criminal and murderous bitch he still has standards - he doesn't kill innoccent people and he would never hurt a child. Or animals (despite being allergic to them). Believe me when I say in older variations of my crappy story he was even edgier (and actually killed his waifu)… I changed that because it's a bit too cliché and stupid
