tell me about clowns

well there are many clowns. many mischievous clowns many kind clowns. one of the,m took my things and turned them into balloons

is mrs. madeline a doll? tell me about mrs madeline..

yes and no! mrs. madeleine herself is technically the ghost of a supposedly very sophisticated opera singer. her ghost haunted a centuries old opera house that circuses operate out of now, but she used the doll as a host and that’s how she got her name! the doll also used to be a marionette puppet, but its strings were cut and it was sold under the guise of it being a “boudoir doll” since it’s about that style and size.

vasilis actually found the ghost when her “soul” was in a phonograph however! she bought it at some little shop somewhere for an astonishingly low price, and when she took it home it started to play music when there was no wax cylinder or carve cylinders by itself. at first she thought it was an issue with her using the wrong stylus, so this went on for several months LOL

eventually after vasilis moved to the city to start her circus career, she found the doll with the name mrs. madeleine at a local shop as well. she wanted to start her boudoir doll collection but she got her ghost friend’s body back instead :o) one thing she won’t find out for a while though is that the original puppet itself was by a local puppetmaker named “cyrus” and it was pawned off by an anonymous person after he passed away suddenly of unknown circumstances

for now though, vasilis just promises to make her life after death as comfortable as it can be (even if her demands are more than she can handle at times) :o)

okay gather around but you have to buckle in cuz he’s weird ok

the logistics of this are hard to explain in my universe but he’s a zombie basically! he doesn’t really remember his past life much at all. the coffin in the mausoleum he woke up in was unmarked, so whenever he “awoke” he was just this guy wandering the streets who freaked out several people passing by LOL

he eventually wandered into “the queen’s dollhouse” which is my universe’s most famous circus, and the owner of the place just sorta took him in and hired him. she did it without any sort of interview process or anything, so everybody including himself was super confused as to why he’s there. he’s just this directionless guy though with nowhere to go and nothing to do, so he just lives and works here

he has this sort of purposefully oblivious and laid back attitude that can grate on certain people’s nerves… he also causes a few issues around the workplace since they’re trying to keep the zombie thing a secret and he’s terrible at keeping secrets. he has made a few friends but they’re very ermm lovingly hostile relationships. he is very good at his job though, he’s an acrobat among other things

the circus he works at has some magical properties to it that make the layout of the rooms and hallways change each night. his friend vendetta is his guide throughout the place but he asks a lot of stupid questions on purpose. he does have genuine curiosity about who and where he is, he just chooses not to show it, since his coworkers are in a similar boat to him and they’re all sort of directionless like he is

your style is so cool, where do you get inspiration from?

i get tons of inspiration from vintage illustrations and illustrators! the people i can think of offhand is the women who had a hand in creating the single-panel cartoon series flapper fanny (gladys parker, ethel hays, sylvia sneidman) as well as gerda gottlieb who was a painter! i’m inspired by other artists here on tumblr, too! like slitherbop, plastiboo, sillgoplove11, etc! OH AND ANATOLA HOWARD! also i’m pretty sure this counts but i really like drag 😭 i’m inspired by jinkx monsoon a lot… i’m also inspired by singers like meow meow revolution and her cabaret stage performances… (my faves shes done are surabaya johnny, ne me quitte pas, and her album/show songs from a little mermaid)OH CABARET THE MUSICAL TOO by kander and ebb.

idk if i’ve just started listing off things i like but i’m inspired by all these things!
