#rafsimons A/W 2004 'Waves' Sculptural cargo blouson with pockets and interior 'shipwreck' patch. . A striking piece from one of Simons' most iconic 2000s moments, based on the classic mid-century Harrington jacket. The front is embellished with an irregular assortment of cargo pockets that creates an aggressively layered look. Irregularly placed buttons and an exaggerated wind flap further complicate the unusual design. The fabric is vintage cotton twill that is double layered throughout, giving a sculptural, almost cushioned feel to the garment. . The fully lined interior is adorned with a patch featuring an excerpt by Jose Ortega y Gasset from his 1932 essay 'In Search of Goethe from Within'. Raf Simons collaborator @peterdepotter explains the collection's conceptual basis: . 'The collection explores the idea of conscious confinement and wilful enclosure. Again starting with the concept of an imaginary community outside of regulated society, the whole of the collection evokes the feeling of enlightenment and personal enrichment one can find in extreme but self-chosen isolation. The collection references at random various drop-out cultures that are conceived as likeminded tribes but when examined closely, are in fact gatherings of individuals seeking self-fulfilment through lonely practice. Wave cultures, cultures of rave waves and ocean waves. From @yourfashionarchive @rafsimons A/W 2001 “Riot! Riot! Riot!” For this collection, Raf rejected the slim silhouettes of his early work and embraced oversizes ones instead. Oversized bomber jackets, hoods, striped turtlenecks, and trousers were featured in a majority of the collection. A parka from the first #calvinklein205w39nyc collection designed by #rafsimons, AW 2017. An exceptional piece that is pretty much the definition of future vintage! . The coat is one of the most beautifully reworked takes on the classic US army parka that I have seen. The deep black shell is cotton & silk, finished with two types of sheepskin on the oversize zipped hood. The fabric is soft but substantial with luxuriously subtle shine. The silhouette is oversize and comfy af. . The interior liner is my favourite aspect of the coat. Constructed entirely from hand-sewn native American quilts, with an abstract curvilinear pattern that is precisely matched throughout. The liner is extraordinary and a beautiful garment by itself. . I have recently started to spend more time looking at the interior of clothes in the archive. In my view, it is finishing and trimming that often sets apart the good from the average in this extremely saturated 'luxury' fashion market. This coat is impeccably constructed and a rare example of contemporary fashion that is worth the hype.
