María's timeline 💚❤️✨️ (Part 2/3) @encanto-extended-edition

Week 1: Introductions

Baby: María Rosita Garcia was a healthy baby girl born to parents Paula and Andres Garcia who felt beyond bless upon receiving their daughter. She was a pretty quiet baby and easy to manage, always curious about her surroundings and taking everything in.

Age 6: Once she learned how to speak she talked *constantly.* Always asking questions about what her parents and grandmother were making and loved helping out in the kitchen. Her favorite thing to do was eat the fresh roscónes made by her grandmother and always begged to learn how to make them. A year or so later her parents trusted her enough to begin teaching baking (she was a lil chaotic when small so they worried about her being in the kitchen) but she proved them wrong as she learned patience and respect towards the ingredients, recipes and utensils placed before her. Despite burning many things at first, and pouting many times, it did not deter her desire to continue learning and wanting to improve.

Age 16: Her first major bump in her life when she meets Ramón Lopez, a swine of a person who made a vile and negative impact on her. She became a little quiet and meek for a while as she struggled to love herself. As she got older, she slowly began to break out of her shell once more as she shifted her focus on herself as an indivudal and improving her baking skills. However in doing so, she lacked social interaction skills and became much more introverted like her parents.

Age 23: Now back to the bubbly version of herself, María helps her parents create a small bakery in the Encanto. She has much determination and passion for baking at this time and even has a small journal accumulated with all her baking ideas/recipes she created. She is very ambitious with her recipes and loves experimenting as much as she could. During her time at the bakery she made a few acquaintances, one of them being Agustín who she felt comfortable around. Later she encounters the triplets upclose for the first time and engages in becoming their friend, especially gaining interest in Bruno. She was excited to be his friend but her heart made her yearn for more, and they end up dating after a year of knowing each other. During this time María also goes through another traumatic experience involving her family bakery/home is destroyed by a fire cause by drunks. Despite barely making out alive, she is still haunted by the memories and has nightmares. She does not like talking to anyone about then though.

Age 35: Being married into the family since 28, she noticed up close how everyone was being treated by Alma, especially her husband. She struggled speaking up about her treatment feeling it wasn't her place to do so, but in return she watched helplessly as her husband began to distance himself more from the family and her. It was an endless battle of hating herself for not being stronger and failing her husband by not helping him. She tried multiple times to talk him, and once she managed to do so it was the night before Mirabel's gift ceremony. Once Bruno disappeared, María was devastated and became a drastically differrnt person. She couldn't focus on her craft, couldn't sleep or eat well, and was much more reserved and quiet than usual. She even contemplated moving out of the Encanto to be with her parents in the city until she found an old note from Bruno telling her he was alright, it was the main thing that persuaded her to stay, hoping she might find him still.

Age 48: Upon discovering Bruno's whereabouts three years into his disappearance she is beyond upset about his rash decisions. She is conflicted by his profuse begging to keep his location a secret, once again arguing with herself over what she should do but his look of desperation makes her begrudgingly agree. In doing so she officially moves back to her own home, unable to face the family knowing where Bruno was and feeling immense guilt. During this time, María becomes even more reserved and lonely. She misses the warmth of her family but she also disliked how it wasn't completed. She meets Mirabel when she comes looking for answers about her estranged tío and while she couldn't tell her much, she instead is the one to inform her to find the vision. Feeling desperate for something, anything to be done and also having faith in her. She knew she wouldn't do anything to hurt the magic, but she also knew she was going against what she promised towards her husband.

Age 50: A year after being reunited with the family María is as happy as can be. On top of thriving once more alongside her husband, she also relishes in motherhood. She's always wanted to be a mother and felt her time had passed so she happily welcomed her two boys. However, life had a surprise in store for her when she ended up pregnant a few months later. María works with complete ease during her pregnancy. The adults worried for her older age, but she had very few incidents and gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She still manages to also bake whenever she can while nursing as she mastered the ability to multitask. She happily teaches her sons baking and doesn't pressure either of them about taking over the business and just offers it as an idea for them to think over once older.

Age 75: María thinks fondly every day over everything that had happened and feels content with where she ended up. She continues to bake despite slower than before but still enjoys making others smile with her goods. Her sons help out whenever they can in the kitchen along with her husband. When she isn't baking she'll sit along her porch sewing up some aprons patterns and basking in the sun as she continues living the rest of her days in peace alongside her husband and boys.

Do you like Piña Coladas?

The story of the Piña Colada is somewhat hard to figure out. There are some different people claiming the drink for themselfs, but there are no written down mentions until 1964 on a menu from the bar Señor Pico. A bar that was owned by Victor "Trader Vic" Bergeron.

The first "claim" for the creation of a Piña Colada goes back to 19th century. Word is, that Roberto Cofresí aka El Pirata Cofresí gave his crew a variation of a grog made with pineapple juice, rum and coconut milk. I couldnt find any good sources supporting this claim tho and one should note, that cocos milk does not come even close to the typically used Cream of Coconut.

This is way I personally wouldnt say that this was the creation of the Piña Colada.

The second time we can find a mention of the Piña Colada is in 1922 in a travel magazin, though this Piña Colada is made without Cream of Coconut at all and more like a Daiquiri with a lil splash of pineapple juice.

So on the next one.

Apparently Ramón "Monchito" Marrero Perez invented the Piña Colada in the Caribe Hilton Hotel in Puerto Rico in the year 1954. Since Cream of Coconut was invented one year earlier by Ramón Lopez-Irizarry it would make a lot of sense, that such a "simple" (only 3 main ingredients) cocktail would be invented quickly afterwards. Story is that Monchito didnt have the correct tools to make this drink until 1954, which is why he made a non-alcohol variant before.

What sort of tools? The Blender. Due to the high amount of actual coconut cream in Cream of Coconut (I know, who wouldve guessed) simply shaking does not blend the strong enough. You will need a stronger way of blending to really mix these ingredients up, so the blender is the way. A lot of Bars these days use coconut sirup instead of Cream of Coconut, which does not have any coconut cream but is coconut flavored. Due to this it is way sweeter and you have to add extra cream if you want to have the same feeling in the cocktail. But more on that later.

Lets return to the Caribe Hilton Hotel and Monchito. Or to be more precise to his colleague Ricardo Garcia. Ricardo claims the creation of the Piña Colada for himself as well. I cant quite tell why most people tend to forget about him and just say that Monchito is the person that came up with the Piña Colada. I couldnt find any sources that made one or another claim more believable.

But hold on, there are even more people who claim the Piña Colada for themself. Ramón Portas Mingot claims that he made the drink in 1963 the first time. Now I think that there is a possibility that he is right, but I think it is rather unlikely that one drink would get popular enough to get out of Puerto Rico and to San Francisco to be on a menu one year later. It might be true that Mingot invented a Piña Colada without knowing of the other Piña Coladas that were already invented. It happened more than once in cocktail history.

So in conclusion I think that the first Piña Colada was made in the Caribe Hilton Hotel. It seems like the government of Puerto Rico thinks the same, because they gave the Hotel a proclamation to honor the 50th anniversary of the Piña Colada.

Anyway, lets talk drink.

Maybe its smart to talk about the meaning of the name first. Piña is the spanish word for pinapple and Colada means as much as washed or strained. If we put this together we get the "washed pineapple" or rather the "strained pineapple". So the drink obviously includes pineapple juice, the fresher the better. There are some recipes that even use pieces of pineapple. I personally would still prefer fresh pineapple juice, because 8 pieces of pineapple is a really rough measurement and could lead to a lot of variation in the drink depending on the person who cuts the pineapple.

The next ingredient is the much talked about Cream of Coconut. I would stick to the original Coco López (comes in a can tho, so thats quite awkward), but there are some other good ones out there as well.

Rum. Ok, now we get a lot of different possibilities to work with. Depending of the drink you want to create you pick. A light white rum for the classic Piña Colada or a stronger, more funky rum for a Piña Colada with a twist. But be aware that you need a rather strong rum if you want to go for the second one. The pineapple juice and Cream of Coconut tend to overwrite most the rum you can taste.

The classic recipe for this drink would be 1.5 oz. of each ingredient. Put it in the Blender with lots of crushed ice and blend it on the highest speed and voila. The classic Piña Colada.

But what about variants?

Well there are the variants that use coconut sirup and some cream instead. I personally dislike them, because it gets even sweeter and the cream tends to blend it all together to one soggy taste. Its already hard enough to differentiate the tasting notes in the classic, but with cream it gets even more just one thingy big lump of taste (in my opinion).

There are also variants that use a little bit of lime.

And my personal favorite probably isnt even a Piña Colada anymore, but more of a painkiller tastewise. The way I would drink my Piña Colada would be with 2,5cl Cream of Coconut; 5cl aged, strong rum; 7cl pineapple juice and a little bit of lime, roundabout 1cl. Shake it up for quite some time and strain it in a longdrink glass. It is unconventional to the original, but way less sweet and in my opinion way more refreshing. The Cream of Coconut does not blend as well with the drink like it does when it is blended that is true, but I am not such a big fan of frozen drinks, thats why I enjoy it like this.

Just one last thing. Remember to always use the best stuff you can find for your drinks. The Piña Colada got a rather bad reputation, because of the popularity of the drink and the numerous bars that started using cheap products for the production of the drink.

That is the story of the Piña Colada or at least the story of the beginning. There is a lot more to talk about, but for now that is enough.

Los trabajos se realizarán de forma alternada por pista, por lo que habrá cortes de tránsito parcializado y no total. Ayer se terminaron los trabajos de mejoramiento del camino El Chepical, sólo faltan las demarcaciones que se harán posteriormente. Hoy se comienzan los trabajos de mejoramiento del camino Chorrillos, los que durarán entre 7 a 10 días y, luego de esos trabajos comenzarán en Las Cabras, desde el cruce a Santa Filomena hasta el Estadio del C.D.
