Designing the ideal career path
For Kirk Cetnic, it seems like only yesterday that he received his Advance Diploma of Graphic Design. But after smashing it in a full-time job for a year, he plans to better himself even further by returning to Swinburne this year to start a Bachelor of Design. Welcome back Kirk!
Kirk says the decision to come back to Swinburne was a no brainer as he found the services, facilities and supportive atmosphere to be second to none.
“At Swinburne I undertook an alternative educational course designed to help those on the Autism Spectrum and those with mild intellectual disabilities to enter the workforce,” Kirk says.
“As I progressed I overcame many difficulties. The teachers gave good guidance, and I ended up pushing further, eventually ending up in mainstream education.”
After finishing his Advanced Diploma, Kirk landed an awesome gig working at design studio, Raw3D, which specialises in graphic design, 3D modelling and rendering for residential buildings.
At Raw3D, Kirk collaborated with architects to develop computer-generated renderings of interiors and exteriors of houses.
He says working at Raw3D opened his eyes to so many more design opportunities, which encouraged him to return to his studies.
“I wanted to keep my interest in design stimulated,” he says.
“I want to keep all my options open. Even though I have an area I’m passionate about, I want to learn about all elements of design.”
Not only did Kirk score a place in Swinburne’s Bachelor of Design this year, he also was awarded a Dean’s Outstanding Achievement Scholarship.
“When I received the scholarship I was amazed. I never expected to receive so much recognition and it gave me a boost to chase my passion.”
“My advice to anyone who is thinking about returning to study is to keep pursuing what you love as you can never learn enough. It’s never too early or too late to start.”
