Last Saturday, I participated in a celebration of the writings and perspective of James Baldwin @schomburgcenter in Harlem entitled But Then You Read: Baldwin. I read from the Preface of the 1984 edition of Notes Of A Native Son which is the namesake of the movement and platform @nativesonnow that I founded last year. I also spoke about Mr. Baldwin's influence on me growing up, seeing him speak @_hamptonu and his impact on Black gay men today. I conclude the reading with this quote. "I am what time, circumstance, history, have made of me, certainly, but I am also, much more than that. Today was a blessing! Two speaking engagements. One in Harlem celebrating my cultural hero #JamesBaldwin @schomburgcenter and the other in Brooklyn @mobinyc having a conversation about Black gay men, identity and media.
