. . .  dahlia fawley (née blake) was the third and final child of sigmund and drea blake. the byproduct of a loveless marriage, she was a disappointment to her father from the moment she let out her first cry. she was supposed to have been a boy, you see. someone who it would be acceptable to pass his business onto. how could she, a tiny, dainty girl possibly bear the weight of blake incorporated, a real estate investment giant? she felt the disappointment radiating off of her father. she felt the expectations radiating off of her mother. if she didn’t meet them, dahlia would be considered a waste of time, money, space. why had she been brought into the world if not to bolster the blake family name? 

. . .  her education was less for learning and more for the appearance of it all. you see, dahlia attended the premiere private school in london - and just wait - she was so special, because all of the teachers loved her. she listened so well, drea would have you know. dahlia excelled in her studies - but not too much. you see, dahlia was not meant to appear as a threat. she was to be underestimated, to appear in the background of rooms of powerful men, listen, gather information. if they expected nothing more than a vapid, uninterested, silly little girl, then they would share their secrets, and dahlia might finally earn her place in the family - passing their words, their plans onto her father. and perhaps she hadn’t exactly earned her father’s respect, but she’d at least earned a few moments of his time.

. . .  arranged marriages weren’t legal in the modern world - a fact that dahlia’s parents bemoaned on multiple occasions. so the marriage wouldn’t be ‘arranged’ exactly, but it had been made crystal clear to both chandler fawley and dahlia that their families would be ‘deeply disappointed’ if the relationship between the two didn’t come to fruition. and dahlia had spent her entire life being nothing but her mother’s trophy, and so she smiled, nodding politely at the plan for her future. as long as chandler agreed to it, she would have a boyfriend who would become a fiance who would become her husband who would become the father of her children.

. . .  she had always expected this - chandler had, too. but neither of them expected the sparks that were apparent to everyone the moment they met. it was strange, the moment you have to prepare yourself to walk into the room to meet the person you had no choice but to marry. dahlia had resigned herself to the reality that she would be in a relationship like her parents, so when the doors to her family’s tea room opened to reveal chandler fawley, and dahlia nearly fell to her knees in love at first sight, her heart grew three sizes. and no, it wasn’t because she desperately wanted to love him, it’s because she actually, truly did. 

. . .  the newly engaged couple moved to huntsville, canada in order to follow chandler’s family (and maybe escape dahlia’s), and the two have made quite the home here. while there were natural growing pains that came with the move from a vast, thriving social scene into a small, tight knit small town. however, the discovery of and subsequent move into the newly minted fawley family manor (a home gifted to the couple by dahlia’s father - a thank you for strengthening their business connections) located on a lake on the outskirts of huntsville, has finally made dahlia feel like home. 

. . .  following her marriage to chandler (a beautiful winter wedding featured in ‘tatler’ and ‘refinery29’, by the way), dahlia has settled into life as a bride, supporting chandler in his journey to start his own business with his twin sister, coraline.
