In 2009 I started this little underground apparel co. called Redfish Mafia. In 2014, I won the first 1 man Elite Series event ever held. A couple of guys approached me and suggested we team up for the season. Share info, travel together, fish together, eat together etc. That year there were 6 of us. We took up 15% of the field. And we won 68% of the money that season. It stirred the proverbial pot to say the least, a dozen or so wins and God only knows how many top 5’s and top 10’s later, with a few national championships thrown in, and here we sit, about to fish the first ever Redfish World Series. The top 48 teams in the country. Now there’s a rule that was created specifically because of our success as a team even though we were competing against each other. “No angler or team shall discuss any fishing information with any other fisherman other than their one teammate.” “The Redfish Mafia” is an entity that is hard to put into words. It is a brotherhood of anglers who approach a tournament as if it’s us against the fish, not us against each other. And it works! Good luck to all the teams over the next 4 days!
