Quick Enola Holmes 2 analysis
1. Netflix buying Enola Holmes
Enola holmes 1 was still supposed to be released in movie theaters all around the globe, when Corona happened. That also explains the really generic look of the movie. Now Netflix owns Enola, and we already see a strong shift from a brighter cinema tone to the classic Netflix lightning.
Enola in movie 1:

Enola in movie 2:

Everything went more mute. Also
Tumblr media
This could be every other Netflix show: Shadow and Bone, The Witcher or The Irregulars. I know some people can not stand that lightning. I love it.
Also compare it to this scenes from movie 1:
Tumblr media
I think the difference couldn’t be more clear.
Also Enola now refelcts MBB real age. MBB pretending to be a young teenager in movie 1 never really worked for me. Now she looks like the woman she is and I think that is okay because it will give the story and the storytellers more freedom
2. The promo
We also see a drastic change in promo. The promo for movie 1 strongly played with the flower symblism (which is an important part of Enolas character btw) and the whole: “looking for clues in paintings and letters” That was also reflected in the promo. You can see the Ivys on Eudorias dress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
vs. first “poster” for Enola Holmes 2.
Tumblr media
3. Characters that weren’t in the book
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both the little Lord and Enolas Mother are not featured in book 2. Enolas mother appears in book 6 again, the little Lord in Book 7. the first time Enola and Sherlock work on a case together is also Book 7. Instead we do not see Lady Cecily or John Watson in the promo who both appear in book 2.
TL:DR: I think they will tell a completly new story which will have nothing to do with the books anymore. Making a strong shift from: “Enola looks for clues in flowers” to a crime drama involving Enola, the little Lord and Sherlock

Bowie's MoonAge Daydream.
Tumblr media
I recently saw MoonAge daydream at the cinema. I had no prior expectations for movie but I expected to be educated at the very least because the movie came highly recommended. I wasn't disappointed.
The documentary wove a story through the life and career of David Bowie: the highs of his life as an artiste in the spotlight, his more adult life away from the music scene, and the periods between- the transitory phases where he reinvents himself and his music.
At various points in during the movie, bursts of abstract graphical imagery refelcted the mood of the scene as well of tempo of the background music. Overall, there was a discernable underlying visual language that tied the whole visual.
Tumblr media
I learnt a few lessons from the narrator, Bowie himself:
1. The expression of art is rarely ever static or rigid. It tends to reflect the times, beliefs or state of mind of the artist. Themes of fluidity in the artists music style as well as physical outward androgynous representation echoed the Bowie's overall message as an artiste.
2. There was a deliberate attempt to challenge the status quo. Bowie wanted to use his craft to challenge the perceived rigid, stifling nature the industrial revolution in his day.
3. You can reinvent yourself as often as life calls for it or often as you need to. You are only as limited as your imagination. Bowie's superpower for me, was his ability to "shed off" an old self create a new one. He changed his physical appearance, music styles as well as his life philosophy as often as he felt the need to.
4. I also got introduced to glam rock music genre. 🙃

Good news! The MM2 picture with the gay dads gazing at each other that I picked is not only on my cinema’s website but also our flyer, another cinema’s flyer (that I helped put together), and part of the dia show on the monitor in our lobby!

Considering you're a film student, I'm guessing you're a cinephile of the like. I don't really see you talk about movies a lot unless tom stuff of course. What to you is the epitome of great cinema and acting? And why? Since you study all the technical stuffs behind it.
BLAH K.
Alright so,im quite the cinephile and on my blog you see some movies spread out and featured besides tom films. since my blog is tom centric i usually focus on his movies BUT i do have a soft spot for other of course.
Now what is the epitome of great cinema? The mantra SHOW DONT TELL is basically what every single director/cinematographer/writer emits in their works so....
There are two aspects to look at, technical and or written
When talking about GREAT CINEMA the techincal is everyones go to
For Example
everyones favorite fucking movie for some damn reason, the first Hollywood Epic, Birth of a nation. The most racist film ever but film fanatics will tell you it is an integral part to cinema and sadly they r right. This film features alot of battle sequences which is caught with very high angle positions to make sure the camera captures everyone. Having more than 2 people in a shot sounded fake in 1900′s but D.W Griffith was able to create a new technique that saved time on large upscale scenes
Mr Alfred Hitchcock  created the best way to create fear and suspense within his audience. In Psycho, as well as Birds, Hitchcock uses Show dont tell quite literally. The objects of his horror is out of frame and his spin curling music plays on while the audience is slowly brought closer to the object of their terror. Hitchcock mastered the use of negative space and created a new genre of thriller which practically change the way directors and cinematographers film thrillers.
While technical aspects are what cinematographers and sometimes directors get boners over
My boner relies on the story aspect.
you can teach someone f stops, you can teach them camera positioning, you can teach them how to use lights and so forth and so on but what you cant teach is how to tell a story.
Story’s are ground breaking, Stories are a refelction of how you see the world. Stories demonize and humanize others. Great storytellers is great cinema. Basically the unsung hero of great cinema are screenwriters. Not directors, not cinematographers and not actors.
ANYONE can tell a story, which means every story has a different view point or an actual even that occured but no one cared unti you put it on a 100 ft screen.
you had moonlight which talked about being gay in the black community, you had sympathy for mr vengeance which captured multiple story lines of people living in south korea and how they lived, then theres innoicent voices which follows the story of a young boy living in El Salvador and he tries to escape from being recrutied into the army.
Every story is different, every story affects different types of people
What makes Great cinema is the ability to take technical aspects such as editing, camera placement, light framing, the use of sound etc and taking a story that has heart and a perspective that isnt very common during that period of time and executing a well crafted film that leaves the audince in awe of the scenery and feeling any type of emotion for their characters.
THAT is great cinema
