- Ethari has a place close to where Runaans ship docks. It's a little hidden cave that Runaan can walk to but most the population never goes there. Ethari can swim to it and it's where he likes to paint back on the symbols that match his tatooes on his tail whenever they fade off. He does this every few months. One month he went and did it and a scale fell off but he thought nothing of it.

- it just so happened to be that hunters were in the area and one of them saw the scale and set up traps around the entire cave. These men are professionals having mastered the art of mermaid/merman trapping because they appear very rarely so when you see an opportunity like this you have to be fully prepared. These men waited months but after camping out for months they finally caught their prey,

- It was norm that Ethari goes and repiants his tattoos so Runaan knew where he was going when they split off and neither of them thought that specific parting would be the last time they saw each other for months.

- As soon as Ethari swam in the cave traps sprung out everywhere. Nets from all separate angles and Ethari struggled as much as he could but these men gave him no chance. They trapped him in the nets and while he was still struggling they knocked him out, took him, and hid their tracks. When Runaan noticed Ethari had not returned back to the ship he sprinted to the cave but he was gone. Not even a trace.

- Runaan panicked he went around the whole island hoping beyond a hope that maybe he was just somewhere on the island. Surely he was playing with Rayla. Surely nothing bad happened to him. Lord please let nothing bad have happened to him. Not Ethari. Not his husband. Sadly his prayers we're left unanswered. He didn't even have a clue to go on. He sent messages out to all his pirate allies and started following any clues of hunters in the area.

- The worst part though was having to tell Rayla who was only 8 years old at the time that her dad was not coming home, Not only that Ethari was not coming home but that he had absolutely no idea where he was. Runaan could not lie to Rayla. The crew tried to tell Rayla that he was just an a special adventure or he was visiting his old family. However even at her age after a week had passed and Runaan started to look worse and worse she knew that something bad had happened to Ethari. Ethari would never leave her and Runaan alone like this.

- Indeed something awful had happened to Ethari and his captors we're not kind people. Any hope that he had of being freed because of his status was shattered when they laughed as soon as they saw his tattoos. Hunters like them don't get along with Runaan and Runaan does not get along with them either, When they saw the exact Merman they caught they were excited to have something to torture Runaan with. They knew it was much easier to get to the pirate kings heart through his family rather than the king himself.

- As soon as they made it to their ship they threw him into a small glass cage filled with water. The cage was barely enough to keep Etharis body in it and he panicked. Ethari was not used to turning often anymore and breathing for days underwater was something he was not okay with, it felt like every second one was suffocating but he never drowned.

- They were still hunters and these particular hunters make money on one thing. Mermaid/Merman scales. They took many of Etharis scales which pain wise is the equivalent to getting your fingernail ripped off. The cage had nails all over it as well so if Ethari squirmed he would get stabbed and it was awful. These men knew exactly how to trap his kind. It was absolutely hopeless. Anything he tried to do to escape these mean had already dealt with and easily crushed his chances.

- Knowing who Ethari was these hunters brought up Runaan a lot. Talking rumors about how they heard the pirate king was losing his sanity or the pirate kings gotten injured, or the pirate king is suicidal now. Most lies of course but they took every chance they could to break his spirit. Ethari fell into a deep guilt. He was the pirate kings husband he should have never allowed himself to be captured like this.

- This continued for three months

- Runaan had searched and searched but still seemed to come up with nothing every new clue. He was incredibly tired. He was so tired of facing Raylas face every time she asked about Ethari. He was so tired of not knowing if he would ever see his husband again. He tried to keep it together as much as possible but it was starting to wear on him a lot and his crew could tell.

- Runaan found his first break when they saw a trapper selling scales. He immediately approached the man and was about to question him but something out of the corner of his eye stopped him. It was a scale being sold. A scale that was the same shade as his husbands. A scale that also had some of the same paint that Ethari had on his tail. There was no denying it. It was Etharis. He immediately grabbed the man by the throat and threw him against the wall. No way. No freaking way this man knew where he was and they were hurting him. How fu***ng dare they.

- He screamed at the man for answers and was not satisfied with his stuttering. He took out his knife and was about to use some more persuasive ways of getting the guy to talk but a quiet voice stopped him. It was Rayla. She was right behind him and just watched him completely lose control. He dropped the man in shock and started to approach Rayla and apologize but she was horrified. He watched her run away in shock. What had he done? His crew tied down the hunter selling the scales and brought him to the ship.

- Rayla ran. She ran until she didn't know where she was anymore. She found herself crying near the ship of a complete stranger. An older kind pirate approached her and asked her what was wrong and she just spilled everything. She tells him how one of her dads is missing and how the other one is angry all the time now. She thinks of how to help him. The man, Villads, asked her how she dealt with his sort of thing previously. She admits that back when her first parents went away she drew a picture to remember them. People tried to tell her that her parents were gonna be okay but they weren't. It's just like Ethari. She and Villads draw a picture together and Rayla runs back to the ship to give the drawing to Runaan.

- Runaan finds her on his ship at the spot where they would always look out at the stars together. Runaan apologizes for his actions he admits these kind of talks we're always Etharis area of expertise. Rayla just smiles at him and gives him the drawing saying that she really wants Runaan to be happy and hopefully this will cheer him up. Runaan looks at the drawing and as soon as he looks at it all the emotions he's kept bottled up the last three months come flooding back and he cries. He crutches Rayla to his chest and they both sob. Runaan swears he's gonna find Ethari. They will all be together again soon.

- Runaand crew was able to get all the information they needed from the man who had Etharis scale. Finally they were able to set sail straight for Ethari. Runaan called upon all his pirate allies and is touched when he finds how many pieces we're willing to come with him to save Ethari.

- As soon as they found a ship it was barely a battle. The hunters got absolutely crushed. They had around 5 ships completely surrounding them and they knew there was no escape. Once Runaans and his crew boarded their ship Runaan told Rayla to stay in his room one last time and that he was absolutely bringing Ethari back.

- Runaan didn't even bother fighting. His crew had this. He ran under the deck and was able to find the cursed glass cage easily. Ethari was not in great shape but he was alive. That's all that mattered. Ethari was I. Shock at first be living Runaan to be an illusion but as soon as he touched him he sobbed. They both did. Runaan took him out of the cage and brought him back home. As soon as Rayla saw Runaan carrying Ethari she ran to them and hugged them both. After three hard months apart they finally reunited. They were all going to have to spend time healing but finally they had Ethari back. They were a family again.
