How To Buy The Right Replacement Windows For A Home
If a homeowner has decided that it is time to get the windows replaced, it can be a fun yet overwhelming project. Fun because it is time for new things and new beginnings which can be a great thing for a family. Overwhelming because the project can not only cost a substantial amount of money, but the decision-making process can be stressful too. To ensure that the project happens smoothly and in as stress-free a manner as possible, finding and hiring the best window installer in Green Bay WI is important. Here are all the things to know about replacement windows.
Energy efficiency: Energy efficiency is something that just cannot be ignored in today’s day and age when every business and most people are worried about their carbon footprint. If saving money on energy bills is something important, then a homeowner should definitely choose replacement windows in Appleton and Fond Du Lac WI that are high on energy efficiency. It is easy to save money throughout the year because high energy-efficient windows make it possible.
Warranty: It is important that a homeowner checks out the warranty of the replacement windows in Appleton and Fond Du Lac WI that is available. What does the warranty cover? Is the product as well as the installation covered? That is why choosing the right window specialist company matters so much. Not only will the right company offer the best service, the warranty will also cover pretty much everything, making the whole experience very fruitful for the customer.
Cleaning: The ease of cleaning is another point of consideration though something not many homeowners think about. But since windows face outwards, there can be a lot of cleaning to be done over the years and that is why choosing a style that is easy to clean and maintain is a very good idea.
Better Business Bureau: Since getting new windows installed is a costly proposition by most standards, it is important that one chooses the right window installer in Green Bay WI. A great way to know that one is choosing a good business is to find whether it is accredited by the Better Business Bureau. If it is, then one can be assured that it has all the licenses and insurance needed to offer the services it does.
No matter what the style of the house may be, the right replacement window installer can really make a difference to the whole project. If it has been years since the house was built and it could really do with a window replacement project, getting it done after hiring the right company is a good thing. The idea is to choose a company that not only offers fantastic customer service, but great prices as well. A local company that has a great reputation within the community will ensure customer satisfaction like none other.

Top 6 Car Features for Wisconsin Winter Outdoor Adventurers
Top 6 Car Features for Wisconsin Winter Outdoor Adventurers
Challenging Wisconsin weather drives what you may need for successful winter expeditions.
Challenging Wisconsin weather drives what you may need for successful winter expeditions.
You’ve packed extra hand-warmers. You have a new vacuum insulated mug. Your favorite boots are ready. So, you think you’re prepared for an adventure into Wisconsin’s winter wonderland … except for one thing: getting there and back. Before you travel to the great outdoors this winter, consider how a few vehicle features can add to your enjoyment and even impact your hunting and fishing success.
Sometimes the smallest features can make a biggest difference. Yet, it seems like every month a new vehicle advancement in convenience or safety becomes available. Some are quite pricey, too. So, before you shop for a new or used car with just the right features to help you enjoy a great winter adventure, review our top 6 vehicle features you may want in your next used car, truck, or SUV.
All- or 4-Wheel Drive
Assuming you know the routes you’ll be taking, and if these roads are paved or not, you can choose to buy a vehicle with either all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive. All-wheel drive cars, trucks, and SUVs generally perform well in slippery weather conditions. And, you don’t need to activate them; they simply distribute power to wheels as necessary.
Four-wheel drive systems, most common in pickup trucks and SUVs, are excellent for driving in very deep snow and for off-roading. Once 4-wheel drive is activated, its low range allows the vehicle to drive up steep hills, over boulders, and through mud. If your route includes roads that aren’t plowed regularly, 4-wheel drive is a must.
A quick reminder: your drive system does not determine how well your vehicle will stop in slippery conditions. Traction is provided by your tires, and only a playing card-sized area is touching the road at any time. So, make sure you have winter tires in good condition. Their soft rubber compound grips better in cold weather. Look for the three-peak mountain and snowflake symbol molded into the tire’s sidewall.
Heated Side Mirrors
Being able to operate your vehicle safely is crucial, especially when you’re exploring unfamiliar territory. The key to safe operation is no surprise; it’s being able to see: in front of you, behind you, and next to you.
You may think that heated side mirrors would cool off too quickly during travel to do much good. But, the housing unit protects against wind and cold. Overall, they’re as effective as rear window defrosters/defoggers, allowing you to remove ice build-up without having to scrape, which can shift your side mirror’s sightlines.
Plus, they evaporate fog in an instant, making your early morning adventures dry, clear, and safe. Speaking of heated components, consider heated seats. Not only do they raise your body temperature when you need it most, they feel great on a sore back during the drive home from a long outdoor expedition. Oh, and a heated steering wheel can feel incredible, too.
Remote Vehicle Starting
Winter mornings can be brutally cold. Especially if your vehicle is exposed to the elements when parked. You can defrost your windows and warm up your vehicle from your home or the cabin, far before you venture out. Plus, after your outdoor fun, get things warmed up before you’ve left the woods.
Also, consider keyless entry, which comes in handy when you have a frozen armload of gear and food. Just walk up to the door and touch the sensor on the door instead of dropping your keys into the snow. Plus, many cars, trucks, and SUVs with keyless entry have pushbutton starting, so no more fishing for keys!
One more convenient loading feature: a hydraulic lift-gate (which slowly drops down in pickups and opens up in hatchbacks) and can be moved with only a finger.
Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control
The drive to your winter escape could be a long haul. And, you’re likely going to have someone with you: friend, spouse, kids. Traveling hundreds of miles while trying to agree on a comfortable interior temperature can be challenging.
Dual-zone automatic climate control is the ultimate peacemaker; giving the driver and front passenger the ability to fine-tune the temperature. Simply set it, and the system makes adjustments to keep everyone comfortable. While in “auto” mode, it keeps everything steady, so you’re decreasing adjustments and increasing safety.
Winter Windshield Wipers
Having to pull over during your trip to repeatedly knock icy messes off your wiper blades is inconvenient and a safety hazard. As their name states, winter wiper blades are built specifically for winter driving, preventing ice from building up on the blade holder. Now, ice and wet snow get lifted off the blade so it rides flat against the windshield.
Some of these special wipers do have a tendency to lift up at high speeds, which may not be an issue when driving in winter conditions. You just need to replace them after winter with summer-friendly blades because they may streak in rainy conditions.
Since we’re discussing being able to see clearly, think about automatic high beams. This feature automatically turns off your high beams for oncoming traffic, and then brings them back up after the car passes. This makes nighttime driving on back roads easier, which can be stressful due to winter driving conditions.
Ground Clearance
OK, ground clearance isn’t a feature that can be easily changed, but it’s something to consider when shopping for your winter-friendly vehicle. For most SUVs, the distance between the chassis and the driving surface is 8 inches, enough room to handle most snowfalls. With more ground clearance, you have added ability to dance over boulders, cross streams, and climb up steep pitches of dirt road.
However, with less ground clearance, let’s say 6.5 inches (still more than most cars and many minivans have), you need to carefully consider what you’ll be driving over. So, depending on your off-road needs, take the time to take some measurements.
Finding the right car, truck, or SUV for your winter outdoor adventures isn’t easy. In the end, it has to work for you, so do your research on vehicle makes, models, and features. We suggest discussing your winter trip needs with a reputable, ethical, and honest used car dealer.
Bring your needs—whether that’s off-road handling or special vehicle features—to a 199ride.com dealership: Green Bay Auto, Appleton Auto, Wausau Auto, Antigo Auto, and 199ride La Crosse.

Personal Vent: Senior care and support
Ahaha, my depression decided to bite me in the ass after a minor disagreement with my mom all of a sudden. Rant below the cut.
Ok so, for some background on this shit, I’m 20, my mom is pushing almost 60. We’ve lived with my grandma and grandpa literally since I was born. Partially not by choice. Mom moved back in with them long before I was born due to financial issues, and since I was born, we’ve had opportunity three or four times to just move and finally get a place of our own, but every time mom reached the financial stability to do so, either grandma or grandpas health would take a nose dive suddenly, so we had to stay and be caregivers, because well. Kinda obligated to.
Grandpa died 2 years ago come Saint Patricks Day, that for the most part I’ve gotten over...sort of. I just get by with the mentality we couldn’t have really done anything. No matter how high the quality of care he could have had going to a bigger city care center, he just wouldn’t have made it. His mind was sharp but his body and heart just gave out cause he was almost 84 and had heart disease and was on full time oxygen for years.
But now because of that, Mom and I are literally left alone to be my grandmothers primary care givers. She’s Independent for the most part? At least she’s always been mobile despite complaining regularly. (she’s the sort to think her pain is worse than absolutely anyone elses at times) But in recent years her mind has been starting to go out the bloody window. She hasn’t been officially diagnosed, but Mom, Pam, and I all agree she’s showing the signs of dementia. Some days are better than others for her, and we’re gradually learning some of the things that trigger worse days. Like if she has a day where there’s a lot of activity, the next day none of the upstairs wires really connect. She has what mom and I call ‘mumble days’. She forgets things easily, repetitively asks things, and occasionally zeros in on stupidly trivial things to worry over or pick at.
I have 4 remaining sets of aunts and uncles. The nearest set lives an hour away from us and both are working full time jobs yet, and the aunt of that set already is having to deal with her own parents of similar age, tipping the 80′s. She has a valid excuse as does that uncle because they’re so busy. Two sets live almost 3 hours away in the Green Bay area, one set is trying really hard to help mom and I, the other is starting to. The last set...yeah they never call and never visit. They are on my shit list. Moving on.
So what’s going on now is Grandma is set to have a knee replacement done on the 21st, and thankfully we’re shipping her off to my Uncle Tim’s for three weeks in Appleton, so we won’t have to bend over backwards over work schedules to ensure there’s a caretaker at home at all times. He’s the one that’s learning.
But thanks to this, Grandma’s mentality has been going off the handle with stress. We can tell she wants to get out of the surgery even though she finally agreed to it, but until the 21st comes, mom and have to deal with all this. She keeps forgetting what medications she can and can’t take.
Just....TLDR: I am getting so tired of being the only one expected to do bloody everything around here because I’m the only able bodied person left in the house. This is why I’m bloody going to counseling! This is why I am 70% sure I have a fucking inferiority complex. I never feel like I’m doing enough and I always feel like I’m expected to do everything or I’m the shit grandchild. And half the time ok I could deal with it but just- Grandma never fucking says thank you, she never actually ASKS. She always volunteers me for shit that I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be expected to do half the time, she always just says ‘oh Laura can do that! Oh Laura can do this! Are you going to do this? Oh Laura can take me!” I just. I’m getting so tired of mom and I being left on the racks constantly. Like, we’ve been talking with Pam (the good aunt) about getting Grandma a Life Alert, because well. She’s a fall risk because she never picks up her feet. But the bullshit thing is, we have LITTERALLY NO ONE In town we could put on it for a contact besides mom, who works an hour away from town, and me, who this summer will also be working an hour away from town, but would also probably have an immediate mental melt down if I was expected to handle a medical emergency alone just because of my anxiety.
Now I get it, I probably sound like an ungrateful brat at points in this, I may sound selfish, but Just. Growing up with the immediate responsibility of caring for an elderly person is not bloody easy, especially when one is a fucking helicopter. Mom and I can hardly have any peace or step foot out the house with out Grandma needing to know where we’re going. It’s always been that way but it’s gotten worse in recent years. She ALWAYS has to know where EVERYONE is. To put it in perspective she discovered Tim and his wife were going on a vacation to Florida, and didn’t tell her. She had a miniature fit and called them asking them when they were going, how long they would be there, when they would get back, all of that.
I’m just...I’m just tired.

2019 Replacement Window Trends | arccontracting.com
Windows are one of the first things people notice about your home from the outside. In this article, we will discuss some of the hottest up-and-coming window trends of 2019.
Energy efficiency
Energy-efficient windows have been one of the major replacement window trendsin recent years. There has been tremendous innovation in this area and the windows that are available today are more energy efficient than they have ever been in the past. Double and triple-paned windows are saving homeowners money on their energy bills by keeping their homes cooler during the summer months and the warmer during the cold winter months. Not only do homeowners with energy efficient windows notice a significant decrease in their energy costs after switching to energy efficient windows, but they also enjoy other benefits like reduced noise and lower UV ray exposure. UV ray exposure can cause discoloration and fading of furniture. There are many great windows on the market, but no matter how energy efficient your new windows may be, they are worthless if installed incorrectly so make sure to hire a reputable replacement window company.
Fixed Windows
Fixed windows are non-functional windows that are installed for aesthetic purposes only. Fixed windows are one of the most popular replacement window trends because they add a bright and airy feeling into any room and make it appear larger than it is. Even though these windows are non-operational, they should still be energy efficient.
Black Window frames
Black window frames are one of the hottest replacement window trends of 2019. A black frame against a white wall creates a beautiful contrast that grabs your attention without being too loud and in your face. It is a subtle addition that makes a big difference and keeps your home looking modern.
If you are in the market for replacement windows and are interested in learning more about the latest window trends, call ARC Contracting at 888-747-8086 for all of your window replacement needs. We proudly serve Appleton, Green Bay, Oshkosh, and the surrounding areas.
