B'cuz I have several #RepublicanFriends asking about the importance of recognizing #JUNETEENTH as an #AMERICANholiday, I thought I would share some information here on the last day of #PRIDEmonth for you to share w/others: *Juneteenth, a combination of June & 19th, is also known as #EMANCIPATIONday or #FREEDOMday. *It celebrates the anniversary of the day when Texas was FORCED to free their remaining slaves. *The #EmancipationProclamation went into effect on Jan.1st1863 under President Lincoln abolishing slavery; however, Texas denied the law & kept slaves. More than 200,000 #AfricanAmericans. *On June19th1865 Gen. Gordon Granger along w/UnionSoldiers entered Galvesten,TX & forced the Confederacy to release the final slaves. *TX is ALSO the 1st state to declare Juneteenth a holiday in 1980.
