#rereading the mind blind demo for the millionth time and im back on my shit

thinking about nick and button from mind blind (@mindblindbard), specifically with rainbow connection as nick's favourite song for the ringtone in chapter 3 and the possible memories attached to it!

nick singing rainbow connection to button when they were a baby/toddler to help them stop crying, his little kid voice earnest as he stood beside their crib and watched their bad mood begin to crumble. him doing a scarily accurate kermit impression and making them giggle. being able to hear their thoughts getting calmer, sense their mood getting happier as they realise everything's going to be okay.

hope and john videotaping it with an old camcorder, shaky and grainy but so full of love, the laughter of their youngest rising over the performance of their oldest.

the muppet movie being nick's favourite as a kid and it quickly becoming button's favourite too, curling up in the den to watch it together and never getting sick of it. putting it on when button has a particularly bad day at school, going back to watch this silly nostalgic childhood comfort movie and reciting the lines from heart, nick making button laugh (just like he did when they were kids), this time with his exaggerated version of miss piggy.

even years later, when they hear rainbow connection they think of each other, looking back on when everything was so much easier, so much simpler, but when the main constant in their lives was still each other.
