Home base for our Finland winter trip will be the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort! Here, you will find beautiful log cabins, glass igloos, and a combination of both to stay warm and feel at home during your stay.
GLASS IGLOOS -- glass igloos have a gorgeous view of the night sky, which is perfect for watching the northern lights, if you're lucky enough! There are options for two people (one bed, a toilet, and the option for an extra bed), or four people (two beds, toilet and a shower). If you stay in a small igloo, you have access to showers and saunas nearby!
KELO-GLASS IGLOOS -- a delightful combination of log cabin and glass igloo, these kelo-glass igloos sleep up to six, and have private saunas, fireplaces, kitchenettes and bedrooms to view the northern lights. For those who want a little ore comfort with their luxury!
LOG CHALETS -- these cabins can fit anywhere from one to ten people, depending on what you are looking for, and are a little more on the rustic side, but with your own fireplace and sauna, so you still get to feel like you're in the lap of luxury.
There are tons of things to do at the resort (we have three planned group events that you are more than welcome to attend!), but don't miss out on any number of safaris, including husky, reindeer, snowmobile, snow tanks, horse riding, or by horse-drawn sleigh. You can take an adventure to go see the northern lights at any time, and don't forget to give ice fishing a try! You can hop on the Icebreaker Sampo, if you want a day trip. And, of course, there's lots of skiing and snowboarding available, too!
If you're looking for food, there are two restaurants on site, whether you're looking to eat in the traditional Kelo restaurant, or at the West Village Aurora Restaurant (with a glass igloo bar!).
Parents, fret not! There is a designated kelo-igloo set up for children when you need a little time for yourself, whether it be a whole day, or just a few hours. Trained, experienced child care workers are on sight, and they will make sure that your kids have as good of a time on this trip as you do when they can't be with you! Overnight stays can be arranged, as well.
And, lastly, don't forget to hit up the smoke saunas, or do a little bit of ice swimming! Even if the water is frozen, they'll gladly cut you space to dip in, and then you can head over to the three smoke saunas by the river, complete with fireplaces in the dressing rooms (to keep cozy!).
