A topic I want to explore further in this project is the idea of transformation and metamorphosis. Being able to transform one’s self has been a large fascination within our society for most of history and today we live in a time where though makeup, Photoshop and even surgery we can achieve it. But I find the idea of metamorphosis within our society and how our appearance and self-worth seem to be tied together really thought-provoking. I was particularly interested in the story of Medusa and how she was transformed from a “Ravishingly Fair Maiden “into a creature so Hideous that one glance would turn you to stone. The original story of medusa depicts Medusa as a part of the three Gorgon sisters who were in their monstrous state, to begin with, it wasn’t until 8AD that the story of Medusa that we know was told by Ovid, in which Poseidon Rapes Medusa in Athena’s Temple so she transforms her into a gorgon, Medusa is also explained to be extremely vain and immodest and any aspect of her being a victim seem to be removed and she is essentially portrayed as deserving this. I find the most disturbing part about this is that although Medusa is a fictional story involving gods and monsters, this type of mentality is very much real, and victim blaming happens all the time still today.

A perfect example of metamorphosis in the modern day would be Kylie Jenner, the youngest of the Kardashian/Jenner Family who became a huge talking point in 2014 when she emerged with what was perceived to be a new face, in actuality Kylie had just had lip fillers but the effects were undeniable.
