Angel stood dutifully in the doorway of his daughter’s bedroom as he watched Rhys check in on her. She’d been complaining of a sore throat and lethargy for several days now and he couldn’t stand to see her miserable for another 2 days until her official appointment. Rhys had really come through for him, making an unofficial house call on such short notice. Angel didn’t forget things like that. Friends or not, he owed Rhys. Lissette drifted off to sleep nearly as soon as her head hit the pillow; Angel stepped out of the room and nodded for Rhys to follow him to the living room where they wouldn’t disturb her rest. “Thanks for helpin’ us out like this. Lissy usually hates doctors, but she likes you for some reason.”

There was the distinct sense of being somewhere unfamiliar almost immediately, barely awake yet and her head still on the pillow. Of course it wasn’t the first time this had happened, but it had been a while since the last time, and it would be a lie to say June had expected it would ever come to this again between her and Rhys. If anything though, she’d had a good time in his company, the bump-in with the tall doctor a good distraction at a time where she needed it more than ever. Sleeping over hadn’t been part of the plan though, and it took June a moment to decide what to do now that the cover of night had come and gone. Slowly, slowly she pushed one foot over the edge of the bed, careful not to stir too much. It was all done in vain however, her phone going off on the floor a second later, nestled in the fabric of her dress. Hissing a gasp, she quickly grabbed it and silenced the call from Zoe, but she already knew it was too late, the stir of Rhys next to her enough evidence. Pulling the sheet up a bit, she turned around and offered an apologetic smile. “Sorry for waking you,” she mumbled quietly, holding the phone against her chest as if she were still trying to silence it.
