RHYTHM | Rachel Scott Everett
"Vagabonding is about taking control of your circumstances instead of passively waiting for them to decide your fate. Thus, the question of how and when to start" this rhythm.
Rachel Scott Everett took us through the rhythms her life and work has taken. Her story reinforced the sentiment that the journey is truly the destination.
EVERGIB, the creative studio Rachel and her life partner Brian run celebrated 8 years this year. And so did we! It was super fitting to be back at the VCU Brandcenter for this celebration.
Thank you Frontier for the continued support.

Don’t forget the green bean casserole! @foodstylist_diana made this recipe for @lidlus. She uses fresh mushrooms and a real butter base for the roux. We photographed it for Thanksgiving promotions at @kitchenthyme. I’m very grateful to have talented people to work with, patient clients and a roomy shoot space! #rva #richmondiscreative #canon5dmkiv #profoto #canon (at Kitchen Thyme) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqQ23LRFHco/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1534fd7gk31zk

January’s Global Theme is Sanctuary.
You can stop running now, you are safe here. A sanctuary offers protection to those who are vulnerable: those who are fleeing violence, those who have been cast off and told there is no place for them there, even animals whose habitats have disappeared. Here is a place where you can finally lay your head down and rest.
The original meaning of sanctuary was a sacred place, containing a holy relic or person. A sanctuary recognizes that each of us, no matter where we have came from or what we’ve done, and our needs — for a full belly, for a roof, for safety, to be free from worry — are inviolable and whole.
Where is it that you find refuge? What happens to your body when you cross its threshold? And most importantly, how can you hold the door open for others?
Our Sheffield chapter chose this month’s exploration of Sanctuary, Lisa Maltby illustrated the theme, and Mailchimp is presenting the theme.
Join us in Richmond on January 20th to unpack this theme with Dr. Hollee Freeman. Tickets go live on January 13th at 10am.

Our global theme for October is ETHOS.
It was chosen by our Asheville chapter, illustrated by Colin Sutherland.
Ethos is that specific quality that defines a place, time, or group of people. When you step into a room, a busy downtown, or a community gathering, you intuit its spirit. A messy DIY space invites experimentation and mistakes, a lush city park promises tranquility to anyone who seeks it. Maybe you even know of a monthly event where everyone is welcome and everything is free of charge.
At its core is a paradox: despite the specificity of an ethos, it’s impossible to pinpoint or trace to a specific origin. What honed that distinctive sensibility is long gone, vanished into myth.
With our actions and words, we embody these values and beliefs beyond conscious knowing. In turn, we subtly shape the ethos that our descendants — of family, of place — will receive from us. Ethos is alchemic, ineffable, and infinitely ponderable across place and culture. What ways of moving through the world did you inherit? Join us at our October 21st event where we’ll unpack this theme for Richmond. Get a feel for it with hashtags #CMethos, #CMRVA & #RichmondIsCreative.

September’s Theme is Spectrum. A band of colors, expanding definitions, a broad array of identities — we all live within multiple spectrums, colliding and intersecting with one another. Like the diversity in our foods, styles of music, and the skills we exercise, our needs are distinct with no one size fits all solution. Understanding and championing other realities normalizes saying: What I experience, feel, and notice may not be what you know to be true. “Design for the spectrum and not the mean,” said Michael Kaufmann in his CreativeMornings talk. “How do we move beyond courteous hospitality to courageous inclusivity?” As individuals committed to artfully living, we can paint refreshing possibilities that are not just for ourselves but also for others. Assemble your tools: Listen, look within, embrace the weird, and take the prism and flip it on its head — you’ll likely find a breathtaking blend of opportunities to make a difference. Our Las Vegas chapter chose this month’s exploration of Spectrum and Iandry Randriamandroso illustrated the theme.
Join us as Richmond navigates SPECTRUM on September 18 at 8:30 am with Jeffrey Beck.

May’s Theme is Nature. What can nature teach us about living with strength, vulnerability, and grace during these times? In the book Emergent Strategy. by Adrienne Maree Brown, Naima Penniman reflects on the decentralized strength of oak trees: “Amidst the whipping winds and surging water, the oak tree held its ground. How? Instead of digging its roots deep and solitary into the earth, the oak tree grows its roots wide and interlocks with other oak trees in the surrounding area.” It’s natural to be feeling alone and scared when storms come our way. But nature, in all its forms and stages, shows us time and time again that resilience comes from adapting, collaborating, and leaning on the support systems around us. By moving away from the idea that we need to be strong on our own, we open up possibilities in our lives and build our collective resilience. Whether it’s in person or from afar, find the networks you can interlock with and ground yourself in them. Lean on those branches of support and hold on tight. Surviving and thriving in hard times requires us to bind together even while apart. Our Salt Lake City chapter chose this month’s exploration of Nature, David Habben illustrated the theme, and it’s presented globally by WordPress.com.
Stay tuned for Richmond’s exploration of this topic on Friday, May 15th, via Zoom.
