This movie is so bad yet I weirdly adore it haha
Better yet, it inspired me to watch Halloween (1978) because P.J. Soles (Riff Randell's actor) plays a character and I don't regret it except the sex scene, but we can ignore that :D

Lecture 16: PUNK! The Ramones perform in the cult film Rock ‘n’ Roll High School (1979). The film, set at fictional Vince Lombardi High, is about a hardcore Ramones fan Riff Randell (played by actress P.J. Soles) who takes over the school with the help of The Ramones and unleashes the band on the student body and authoritarian principal. While it’s no Citizen Kane, it does contain a lot of goofy anarchic Seventies humour and a spirited performance by the band. Note the apparent influence of earlier types of rock ‘n’ roll on their music, especially Surf Rock of the 1960s.

Twelfth Night
Effective Modern Play.

"Twelfth Night" at the Axis Company Theatre brings front and center just what The Bard had intended when he wrote this glorious piece. The play is riff with mistaken identities and great frolic.
In this production, I was reminded of a great company back in the early 80's that used to be in residence there; The Ridiculous Theater Company. Much of "the business" that the actors had poked fun as well at farce towards the characters that they were playing, and it all tied together nicely indeed! Much of the success of this brilliant, shortened rendition goes to the producing director Brian Barnhart. In making use of the full stage, crisp entrances and bawdy gestures, the direction always keeps the audience engaged, always.
"Twelfth Night" is not an easy show to produce; the reason we see so little of this timeless piece is that it can be cumbersome as well as confusing at times. The Axis Company cutting its length and bringing the most relevant to the forefront at 90 minutes gives us just the right amount of story (adaptation by Marc Palmieri)
Karl Ruckdeschel's costumes capture the period and are extremely creative. So too are the wigs and makeup Leone Gagliardi and Will Vicari. In both the costumes and wigs, the audience gets to go back in time and relish the period in which this was written. I am not sure we can call this a modern piece because it holds to Shakespeare's vision of this play. Shakespeare often poked fun at the times in which he lived; he brought the tawdry front and center in many of his works, and here in "Twelfth Night", Axis brings all the good stuff in this writing.
The story is based on Viola, (Britt Genelin) separated from her twin, Sebastian, (Eli Bridges) dresses as a boy and works for Duke Orsino, (Jon McCormick) whom she falls in love with. Orsino is in love with Countess Olivia, (Kathy Frame) and sends Viola to court for him, but Olivia falls for Viola instead. Sebastian arrives, causing a flood of mistaken identity, and marries Olivia.
To say that all the main characters are excellent is an understatement; this is the way off off Broadway used to be in the 80's and 90's... a crisp cast with really good actors. Unfortunately in today's off off Broadway we get more showcases that run for a short period of time and often are politically driven towards climate change and or the LGBTQ community. Call me nostalgic, but this play is old school with raw talent, great writing and something you can sink your teeth into. Whereas much of today in the Village we get mise-mosh of writing and acting, Axis brings a professional body of work in this play.
In a simple set, but an effective on, Randell Sharp is very creative in how the blocks ebb and flow. Even the jail scene is well appointed, as is how the actors carry about both stage left and stage right. His set gives us options on where we look throughout the performance. Michael Birnbaum's sound hits the emotion of the play at the right times. The play is sometimes suspenseful and other times eery. The sound pretty much captures the direction here. The lighting at times does not hit the actors properly, however. We sometimes lose the actors with weak focus on their faces.
"Twelfth Night" is one of the best performance I have seen in the off off Broadway space in a long time. Where this realm of theater used to be edgy, in your face and creative has now gone by way of mediocrity and it seems that little thought is put into the acting and writing. Here at Axis, however, we get a masterful and creative piece that is worth seeing again and again!

The Great Gatsby. No Bull With Raging Robert.
"The Great Gatsby" at the Broadway Theatre is a grandiose musical replete with fantastic sets and glittering costumes. Steadfast to both the book by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the movie, the songs complement its plot in this two hour and fifteen minute whirlwind of a show. This Broadway version had its book by Kait Kerrigan, music by Jason Howland and lyrics by Nathan Tysen

Sylvester was a Merrie Melodies canine Sylvester, the Cat, is a beloved Looney Tunes character who debuted in March 1947 in the animated short Life with Feathers. The Road to Nowhere
Trigger warnings: Violence, Death. "May the Sun burn your tongue out, woman," Fredrick's father screamed the curse into his mother's ear as their elegant little carriage rumbled along, its polished wood and gilded trim glinting in the torchlight. They had just left the small village of Saffron and were on an unnamed road to the capital for the Royal wedding. Fredrick leaned back in his plush velvet seat to escape into the passing landscape, but across from him sat the servant boy, a scrappy lad named Jack. Jack's eyes held a mixture of awe and fear, the kind that only a commoner could feel in the presence of nobility. Jack looked up and caught Fredrick's gaze, offering him a sad little smile before reaching into his pocket and retrieving a little caramel treat. This candy was no doubt stolen from the kitchen treat cupboard; if he was caught with it, he would be locked in the box as punishment.

Hard truck 2 king of the road soundtrack

#Hard truck 2 king of the road soundtrack movie#
School's out forever, baby! - LB Atlantic RecordsĤ6. Of course, the world's first punk band takes up a good chunk of the soundtrack (and even more are used in the film itself), opening with the titular " Rock 'N' Roll High School" and weaving through a then-modern slate of heavy hitters like Devo, Nick Lowe, Todd Rundgren, and Alice Cooper. Soles) absolutely MUST meet them - which she does, the Ramones become honorary students, and they all burn down the bad school together. But focus they will NOT, because the Ramones are coming to town and number one Ramones fan Riff Randell (played by P. The teens of the so-called Rock 'n' Roll High School simply cannot get enough of that pesky rock 'n' roll! Naturally, the 1979 movie's soundtrack leans heavily on the genre - and, more specifically, rock songs about going to school - to set the tone of the rollicking story about a stuffy principal coming to town to get these kids to stop caring about silly music so much and focus on their studies. And, as weird as this may sound the Shrek 2 soundtrack was arguably just as good, introducing kids everywhere to Pete Yorn, Tom Waits, and Nick Cave. The only real stinker is " Like Wow!" a bubblegum pop selection from Leslie Carter, sister of Aaron and Nick. (Suck it, The O.C.) The track listing bounces around from " All Star" to deeper cuts like Eels' " My Beloved Monster" and a genuinely lovely cover of " You Belong to Me" by Lifehouse's Jason Wade. Shrek both makes fun of classic Disney musicals and operates like a musical itself, using propulsive cues throughout its running time, all the way from those opening Smash Mouth chords to the use of Rufus Wainwright's version of " Hallelujah" before it was everywhere. Is the Shrek soundtrack a masterpiece or an abomination? Whether the sounds of "somebody once told me the world is going to roll me" make you scream with delight or shudder, it's impossible to deny that the creators of this juggernaut were onto something when they decided to mix boomer and Gen X musical sensibilities, and then market it to tweenage millennials.
#Hard truck 2 king of the road soundtrack movie#
We hope this list of the 50 greatest movie soundtracks of all time will inspire you to discover some music you haven't heard previously, and we apologize in advance for getting "Footloose" stuck in your head again. While this list certainly celebrates the pre-Napster 1990s, when the recording industry was flush with cash and setting money aside for music licensing became an essential part of the filmmaking budgeting process, we also aimed to include a wide variety of genres, directors, and eras, including the playlist-obsessed present, and we considered how the overall album holds together, not just whether it includes a monster hit song. After all, movie soundtracks are personal. All of these operating guidelines, especially that third rule, may explain why that one soundtrack you rushed out to buy at Tower Records back in the day isn't on this list. We followed - and, yes, occasionally bent - a handful of self-created rules about what qualifies as a soundtrack: no orchestral movie scores (sorry, Hans Zimmer) no traditional movie musicals (apologies, Grease fans) and only one movie per director (Cameron Crowe was particularly difficult). For the purposes of this list, we consider the movie soundtrack to be a unique art form, one with distinct and complicated ties to the history of popular music.
