Personal robotics

In the first video, we learned about personal robotics that help and interact with people. These robots were capable of helping people with health issues such as obesity, entertaining children during play time, and connecting family members who live far apart. These robots are extremely useful in the sense that they connect with their users, forming a life-like bond one gets with another person.

In this video, I learned about the Jibo robot. This robot is a robot which helps out around the house. It is capable of reminding users of things going on, relaying text messages and emails, taking photos so you don’t need to have a camera, and much more. This robot is great for hands free device using, meaning one can stay connected to all their devices without needing to stop what they are currently doing. This technology helps people trust technology and feel comfortable using it, no matter what age.

At the Henn’na Hotel in Japan, it has robots which are taking the place of many traditional employee roles. These robots can be at the front desks, answer customer questions, and check bags in and out for customers. These robots are great for life-like human interaction, as they have some “sense” of humor, enticing customers to come back to the small hotel. They are somewhat slow, but that is to be expected for developing software.

The Maya personal robot is a very interesting artificial intelligence robot. This robot is able to understand social cues, speech, and situations around it. Maya can see things around her, similar to the way humans recognize their surroundings. This is very similar to the Jibo robot, but it can move around on its own, giving it more applications for its user. It is capable of watching the house when one leaves, taking pictures, helping people use hands free devices, and much more.

Pepper is an interactive robot, capable of interacting with all members of the family. It is able to play with children in a way which other humans interact. It can feel when someone touches it, interact with people during a party, and play music out of its speakers, dancing along to the music. This is a robot designed for entertainment interaction.
