I just read this and saved it to Pocket. Excerpt: Tokyo Smoke founder Alan Gertner (and ex-Googler) has mastered the pursuit to happiness. An encounter at a Ghanian voodoo ceremony inspired him to leave behind a skyrocketing career in corporate strategy for a journey of self-discovery.

The First of Many
Tumblr media
The patrons of the Inn were downstairs enjoying their evening when a loud thud and an Orc's below was heard from the upper floor. A look a worry crossed the Inn Keeper's face as he looked up. He crossed the dining area to the stairs making his way to the room of which the sound had came from, rapping his knuckles across the door, " Is everything okay in there?"

Phaesphoros paused and looked up worriedly as he cleared his throat, " Yup, just using too much teeth..." just loud enough for the man to hear on the other side. At those words the Inn Keeper gave the door a slight look of disgust and turned away back down to the last of his customers. The Scout waited for the footsteps to fade before wrenching his blade out of the Orc's back.
As he wiped his blades clean on the fur of his latest target's cloak, he pondered if he should have just used poison seeing as dirty work never went as predicted. With his luck it would be weeks before the now dead guy would have ever taken a sip of anything with a dose. He generally tried when he could to avoid these jobs. It never brought Phaesphoros pleasure to take a life, though it didn't necessarily bother him. You do what you have to. Everyone’s got to make a living somehow. As he sheathed his daggers he realized he’d have to bring proof of the body back to his contractor. Whipping out the newly made goblin mechanism he snapped a shot of the corpse, musing at how much easier the cameras made kill confirmation these days.
Knowing he would have to hide the body to at least buy himself some time until morning, he looked around for a place to conceal it. His eyes finally settled on the closet, figuring it would be as good a place as any. A perfect surprise for the Inn Keeper in the morning. The blood stains on the floor were another thing, so he moved the carpet over the puddle to cover it. He had a look around, satisfaction on his features as he unhooked his flask from his belt and took a deep swig of Bourbon to take the edge off. With a smack of his lips and a twist of the cap he returned the flask to his hip and walked lazily towards the window.
Getting up was always easier than getting down he thought, mounting the window sill and glancing around. He smirked as his eyes landed on a cart full of hay. "I heard assassins did this somewhere. " Closing his eyes he leaped for the cart.
With a loud crash, splinters and hay flying every which direction he lay still in the remnants of the cart moaning about his back for a moment. Thankfully the alcohol dulled most of the pain and he got up without any outwardly horrible wounds, though he knew his back might bruise a little later. Now that the hard part was over, Phaesphoros lurched into she shadows of the nearest building before anyone came looking for the cause of all the commotion.
After waiting for a moment, listening but hearing no approaching footsteps, he left stumbling down an alley using the walls for support. Soon after, he came up upon his black Hawkstrider, tied to a post near the edge of town. After many attempts and failures, he finally managed to get into the saddle, guiding his hawkstider down the dirt road towards their next destination.
