March 10 - 12 | La Union Photos are in random order; Cameras used: Canon AE-1 Program and Lomography Reloadable Camera; Films used: Rollei Crossbird Creative 200 (sepia, old vibes, heavily grainy), Lomography 100 & 800
Asis and I decided to plan a three-day getaway in La Union. It was a rather impromptu decision on his part, as his leave had been scheduled a month or two in advance. He informed me just a week before the trip that I should also request a two-day vacation leave. Fortunately, my leave got approved despite the short notice.
We opted for an Airbnb, a rustic and cozy place with a lovely view of the sea. Johnny, our host, was incredibly accommodating, and the location was convenient, yet tucked away from the nighttime noise of the town, albeit a bit of a struggle for me due to its uphill location.
We arrived in the late afternoon on our first day, although we departed around 9 or 10 am and made several pit stops along the way. After settling in, we headed to the shore, observed surfers, and waited for the sunset. For dinner, we dined at one of the restaurants along MacArthur Highway and later returned to our Airbnb to relax in front of our cabin.
On the second day, we initially intended to visit Tangadan Falls but decided against it when we realized it would entail an hour-long trek. It's amusing how we preferred to conserve our energy and enjoy a laid-back day. We opted for one of the local cafes and then visited the beachfront. While I'm not particularly fond of swimming in public places due to the hassle, I stayed close by, watching Asis, the surfers, the waves, and the people with their dogs. I took plenty of photos, as I missed using my film cameras and caught up on my current book. It was a refreshing time because it had been quite a while since the two of us took a beach trip together (I think the last time was in 2016). Afterward, we indulged in a wood-fired brick oven Margherita pizza with Buratta cheese at Amare La Cucina. We finally got to taste this gooey ball of cheese. We returned to our cabin to pass the time and only ventured out again for the sunset and dinner. The place was bustling on a Friday night. Elyu is like a nightlife mecca; people flock there to unwind and drink. We spent our last night in our cabin, sipping coffee (me) and beer (Asis), discussing everything and nothing, simply enjoying the time. Work had become monotonous, and I was feeling uninspired, so this getaway was precisely what I needed.
On the third day, we checked out early to avoid traffic. We went straight to my parents' house and spent the night there. On our last free day, we met Asis' family in UP and returned the car borrowed from his sister. All in all, it was a genuinely relaxing getaway and quality time with both of our families.
P.S. I wasn't entirely pleased with my shots; most of them were overexposed. The Rollei film I used was indeed unusual, not your typical go-to film. (¬‿¬)
