Pairing: Piano Prodigy! Being Honglin x A very tedious violinist! Reader
Genre: Fluff! School AU!
It was and ways be an ongoing war between you and Honglin.
He was the best piano prodigy while no one could excel in your talent of playing the violin.
People would say that your hatred for one another sprung from your younger days where you two crushed on another hard.
The only thing you were sure about was that one of you had to be the best.
You both received invitations to be mentors at a summer camp for children who aspired to be musicians.
You were so thrilled that you had been given such honor only to get disheartened by the fact that Honglin was also invited.
You two were asked to teach the children easy song pieces where both the piank and violin play because you will be having joint classes.
You two were sitting 2 meters apart on the table while you both scanned through your music sheets for the perfect duet.
As expected he want a song which showcased the piano more while you with the violin.
"Cut it out, you two. The kids will get negative vibes from you." Zhangjing, another one of the pianists scolded you.
Even when it came to actually teaching the kids the basics, there was an obvious tension between you two.
"Does teacher Honglin like teacher y/n?" One of the kids asked Honglin as he just finished having a glare off with you.
"That's right. I like her a lot." Honglin forcefully draped his arm over your shoulder and warned you about Zhangjing through eye contact.
"How about teacher y/n?" Another student asked.
"Yeah yeah, I like him a lot too." You smiled at the student but pinched Honglin behind making him wince.
"Nice." You heard Zhangjing say as he lowered his phone and grinned cheekily. "Something to show the guys when we get back."
"I wanna see teachers get married!!" The students cheered.
You two shot one another a glance and sighed. Maybe, being teachers to a crowd of kids isn't the best idea.
After the classes ended, you were now in the dining hall at the rest of the mentors. Those who taught the same class were tabled with one another.
"So I heard you two...confessed to the kids. Why couldn't you confess in front of us too?" Yanjun, one of the cellist commented while he took a sip from his cup.
"We were forced to." Honglin shot him a glare.
"It seemed pretty natural if you asked me." Chaoze, the bassist, joined in the teasing.
"Why can't you two just date?" Ruotian, a trumpet player, asked as you glared this time.
"Why would I date him? He sucks." You stuck a tongue out at Honglin and he rolled his eyes.
"You just don't wanna admit that I am way more date worthy than the rest of these guys." Honglin said as he chewed on his cooked carrot.
"Hey." Dinghao, one of the opera singers, slammed his hand on the table.
"You didn't have to burn us." Maotong, the triangle player, frowned.
"I would rather date Yanchen than you."
Silence.
A very awkward silence.
Even the rest of the boys kept quiet.
Honglin just stared at you and this time, it was not out of spite. He seemed really hurt.
He left the table and the other guys sighed.
"Y/n...do you not remember the day you stopped being friends with Honglin?" Zhixie, an oboe players asked as he took the seat next to you.
"Yeah...so?"
"He saw you with Yanchen and he felt like he was being replaced. He liked you a lot and thought that you liked Yanchen instead..." Jingzuo, the harp player commented.
"Wait...what.." you were surprised by this.
You did like Honglin before but he started acting up and you got annoyed because you could not figure out why.
"Can you please go talk to him?" Chaoze asked.
And so you did.
It was not hard to find him, he was in one of the music rooms.
Playing a piece you two used to play a lot.
You sat down next to him but he did not make much of your presence.
You lifted your fingers and started playing with him.
Honglin used to teach you how to play the piano when you were younger.
As the song came to stop, you turned to face him. "Honglin, I..."
You were cut off when he cupped your cheeks and pressed his lips on top of yours. It was so gentle yet it felt like it had been a longing type of kiss.
You felt your heart beat rising and your cheeks bursting with warmth.
As he pulled away, he had kept his eyes closed.
"Why does it always have to be Yanchen?"
You stared at him for a while.
You knew he was wrong.
And you had the best way to say it.
"It was never Yanchen...it had always been you."
