i have always complained about davekat getting weirdly softened in fanon (like a Big Thing with karkat is how hes literally troll gay and can’t keep his quadrants straight; its an important part of his character for him to be pitch with his partner as well as flushed). whenever fanon makes them out to be matesprits im just like. thats cute sure but you’re Wrong… and now that you’ve said it i get what it is and its the rosemaryfication of davekat 😭 if you want puppy love so bad kanaya is RIGHT THERE… davekat are fucked up and mean and fight and thats part of what makes them interesting if you want awkward sweet confused crushes you need rosemary

Like, look at Karkat and Terezi’s relationship for example: their relationship had a lot of vacillation and wasn’t just red red red with just a hint of black teasing - which is what a lot of dk content portrays. Despite the consensus being that Dave and Karkat vacillate between quadrants at every moment, people mostly depict them as more red with like, the barest sprinkle of black via an insult and that’s it. That is not the Dave and Karkat that had a whole fight over penis ouija and then cape suplexed.

I think this also had to do with Dave’s jerkiness towards Karkat getting toned down where it’s just Karkat that’s majorly hostile, which again just…… rosemarys davekat’s dynamic. Dave is way more mean to Karkat than people give him credit for, i.e finding KK’s voice ear-hurting and telling him to shut up as soon as he was assigned possible leader, and it’s high key annoying to see Dave get so defanged in order to give him a puppy crush.
