The first thing he noticed, was that even with his eyes closed, the light in the room was bright enough to cause his head to ache. The simple fact he was aware enough to feel that caused the rest of his body to slowly awaken. It was as if he was waking from a sleep he wasn’t meant to. Everything was stiff, unwilling to move. He could feel bandages on his body, constricting his skin all over. The first thought that came to mind was that he had cursed himself again, a rebound of his power from that Wrath Shield. He should have learned by now, considering the last time he used it against the Pope, he had nearly died. How close had he been this time? It took a good, long moment before he was able to open his eyes even in the slightest, staring upwards at the ceiling. Not only was everything stiff, but everything hurt as well. Now that he had awoken, there was no way he was going to be able to go back to sleep, not with his skin seemingly on fire. A hand was within his own, and it took some time for him to notice, and even longer for him to turn his head enough to see who it was. He wasn’t really surprised to see Raphtalia there, her head buried against the bed he lay in, asleep with her grasp tight on his hand. He was going to have to stop doing this to her, wasn’t he? But he couldn’t help the nearly impossible to see smile that curled his lips. He trusted her, and she had yet to betray that. It was a good feeling.
