Face masks not listed on Royal Caribbean’s August health protocols

Royal Caribbean released its Florida cruise health protocols in August 2021, and there is no mention of face masks.

While the protocols for cruises from Florida in July require face masks to work in the cruise terminal and ship, there is no such guideline for August cruises.

Royal Caribbean hasn’t specifically announced anything to explain that masks are not required. Essentially, there is a noticeable lack of a face mask guideline for August cruises.

At least one executive branch hinted at an impending change in federal policy.

Speaking to media outlets at Perfect Day at CocoCay on Sunday, Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley said he was expecting a new update from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on masks .

Mr Bayley said he was awaiting an update from the CDC that would allow a cruise ship with at least 75% vaccinated guests on board to not require fully vaccinated guests to wear masks indoors.

He didn’t say exactly when this new CDC update might come out, but it seemed sooner rather than later.

Currently, CDC guidelines require that all guests ages 2 and up wear masks unless they are actively eating or drinking. The CDC allows guests to remove their masks at venues and events fully dedicated to vaccinated parties.

According to the July logs on the Royal Caribbean website, the cruise line is expecting an update from the CDC: “In the coming days, we are awaiting updated guidance from the CDC on mask guidelines for vaccinated guests in common areas and will notify you about this in time.”

A Royal Caribbean spokesman said the full list of August protocols was not yet on the website: “We have not yet published our protocols for the August crossings and only published details of vaccine and testing guidelines as it was was about insurance. “

“We expect the August protocols to be very similar to July. Still, we hope the CDC will change the mask policy soon.”

On Royal Caribbean’s trips from the Bahamas with Adventure of the Seas, fully vaccinated passengers are not required to wear masks on board, although unvaccinated passengers are required to wear masks.

Meanwhile, Freedom of the Seas has resumed departures from Miami and all guests are required to wear a mask indoors.

To reduce the wearing of masks among vaccinated guests, Royal Caribbean has set up certain venues as fully vaccinated zones where masks are not required. This includes places like the casino, various bars and lounges, specialty restaurants, and more.
