Never Have I Ever Cut Off My Nose Just to Spite My Face (Loki TV, MCU) | Loki leaned back against the couch cushions, reaching up to loosen his tie as Mobius prattled on about AARs and TVRs and several other acronyms that Loki was sure he was supposed to recognize. It was late; usually by now he’d be sliding into a hot bath with a glass of wine, letting the day wash away. And while he had the wine—his goblet was half-full, sitting on the coffee table—he was in Mobius’s office, which was far from a warm bath.

Challenge Accepted (Shadowhunters) | Simon fluffed a throw pillow and carefully set it in the corner section of his couch before taking a step back and looking at the whole area with a critical eye.

All We Have Are the Choices That We Make (Crossover b/w The Adjustment Bureau & MCU) | David still went by the bar sometimes. Not very often; his every move was tracked by the press since he won the election, but every once in a while he could slip in and have a beer before someone noticed him. Charlie always gave him shit for it, and David knew he’d have to stop eventually, at least if he ran for a higher office. It wouldn’t do to have a presidential candidate slumming it at a Brooklyn bar.

Bring Your Dog to Work Day (Hawkeye comics) | Clint shoved his cell in his pocket, sighing as he stood up from the bench. So much for a couple of days off. He whistled for Lucky, who paused in his grass-sniffing to look back at Clint, his ears cocked towards him.

Crystal Clear (MCU) | Phil looked over various posters tacked to the community bulletin board as he waited for the coffee to finish brewing. The break room wasn’t busy; there were only a couple of agents sitting at a nearby table, which wasn’t unusual in the late afternoon on the week before Christmas.

The Way the Story Ends (The Magicians) | It had hurt, when the blue flames erupted all over his body. Quentin remembered hearing screaming; first, Everett’s as he realized what Quentin was doing, and then Alice’s and Penny’s, and then his own. The pain was agonizing, but there was a kind of peace with it, especially when he saw Penny yank Alice out of the room. 

Why We Fight (MCU) | Thanos had been dead for a month when Natasha kissed Steve. He’d been living in a haze since that day at the Garden, stumbling through a fog of sadness and regret and fear and so much anger he scared himself.

Girl's Night (Hawkeye TV, MCU) | After the chaos that made up her Christmas break, Kate wasn’t sure what a return to normal life would be like, since her ‘normal life’ didn’t really exist anymore. Her mom had only spent a day in jail, but seeing as Kate was the one that put her there, she wasn’t speaking to Kate—which was fine, because Kate wasn’t speaking to her either.

So Crazy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) | The vampire crumbled to dust in front of her, and Buffy let out a small exhale, focusing on scanning the tombstones for any more vamps and not on the heat swirling in her belly.

One Night at a Time (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) | As soon as she saw who was waiting for her behind the glass partition, Faith knew. When Willow’s eyes caught hers, and Faith saw the grief and exhaustion that Willow seemed to be drowning in, she knew.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Yep. I enjoy it when authors respond to mine, so I reply to others. If the comment is just emojis or a few nice words, I may not respond, basically because I don’t expect responses on those when I leave them. I do appreciate anyone who leave a comment, from just one emoji to full capital keyboard smashes to long comments full of your favorite lines. Each one makes my day.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Hrm. Typically I write fluff and happy endings, but a couple I did for exchanges ended pretty ambiguously – so probably either ashes in my mouth (TM, Niffin!Alice & Q) or baby did a bad bad thing (TM, Q23/Q40)

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve ever written?

I was going to say no, but yeah, I did a Magicians/Harry Potter/Pride & Prejudice fusion fic for my second fic ever. I guess that one was pretty crazy, trying to merge three universes. I’m pleased with how it came out; it was a lot of fun to write.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not to my face. So, nope.

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Yes. Typically M/M. I have a few F/F and one M/F.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. @hoko-onchi-writes and I have talked about it, and I think it’ll happen one day.

What’s your all time favorite ship?

Queliot, although these days I enjoy many ships – Jaskier/Geralt, Clint/Coulson, among others

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I don’t have any incomplete fics.

What are your writing strengths?

Finishing fics? Capturing a character’s personality through dialogue. I don’t know.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Brevity. In the exchanges I’ve done, I’ve had the highest word count fics in over half of them.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I haven’t done this. I’m fine with it, when I read it in other fics. I think I usually just say “He chants the Romanian words” or whatnot.

What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?

The Magicians popped my fanfic cherry.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I hate this question. I don’t know. I like them all; and my range of what I've written is pretty across the board. I guess here’s my top eight, in no particular order:

There’s No Place Like Home – fake-dating post-mosaic. This one felt like a romcom as I wrote it, which was partly why I enjoy it so much. I feel like the humor was pretty well done. Thanks to @freneticfloetry for the bunny.

Love Me To Life – Written for a fairy-tale exchange, based off the Pygmalion myth. The bunny for this one hit me while I was standing in line for Asian food, and it was just a delight to watch it come to life. I figured out various plot points along the way, and it just fills me with delight to reread it.

i’ll put your poison in my veins – my first real fix-it. I was proud of myself for sticking with the teen rating, even though I really wanted to put some smut in the end. It just felt good to write a real fix it.

so hot, so sweet, so whet my appetite – my first OW. I Love these two so much; I’m expanding their universe into an original novel.

The Only Exception (with the floppy hair) – this flowed out of me in 3 days. I love the soulmate trope; it’s my favorite, and this was the first one I ever wrote. Thanks for the inspo, @freneticfloetry.

Professor Coldwater: Social Maladjustment 101 – Pretty sure I’d get murdered in my sleep if I didn’t include this one. My longest fic, my goal was to write angst and smut. And I did that.

you said the words, and they altered the universe – TM, book/show fusion. Sort of. I wrote this probably when I was at my height of loving Queliot and the TM fandom, and I think it shows. I was just so enamored of this fic as soon as I finished it. I still love it. Just not that intensely, I suppose.

if I get burned (at least we were electrified) – TM, Wickoff. I just enjoyed writing a fic from a song, and I like how I did it with the flashbacks.

Please state and link/explain the following fics:

What you’d consider your first fic: It’s a Magicians fic, A Knight’s Tale AU called A Fillorian Knight’s Tale. I’m not not proud of it, I’d just be okay if it disappeared… it’s very OOC, but I am pleased with how I at least tried to change the universe to have more magic lol.

Your softest fic: Probably Captain America and the Winter Soldier and the Box Full of Kittens. It’s Bucky Barnes finding a box full of kittens and bringing them home to Sam! Doesn’t get much softer than that.

Fic you’re most proud of: I don’t know. So many of my fics were challenges in different ways. I guess Professor Coldwater: Social Maladjustment 101, because it was my first attempt at just a lot of sex and angst. It’s also my longest, and I’m happy with how it came out.

Fic which shows your progress: I’m not really sure what this means. I guess one of my most recent, the space between, which is a Loki fic. It was my first time writing in this canon, and I was very nervous about getting it right. It got a good reception, so I think I did okay.

Your favorite WIP: I don’t have any WIP’s currently. I do have a series in progress, which I’m having a lot of fun with. Whatever Happens In… (Doesn’t Stay In...)

15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?

Ah, god. Shoving all the smut aside, probably the Harry Potter Pride & Prejudice AU. It has a Quidditch scene with Quidditch Captain Margo, you go in all the common rooms, you get a library finger banging session (tastefully filmed, of course), observatory tower confessions, a break-in to Hogwarts, rides around the castle on brooms, Fogg on a broom, Eliot with a kneazle in his lap, a showdown in the Forbidden Forest, duels, centaurs… would be a lot of fun to see on film.

28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

I have read a shit ton of fic, and I have a shit ton of favorite authors. Here are three, in no particular order:

No surprise that @hoko-onchi-writes is a favorite. She’s directly responsible for me continuing to write at all, but even if we’d never spoken, her fic is amazing. Organic relationships, happy endings, smut you feel in your soul (and other parts of your body, if you know what I mean).

@mixtapestar – Her fics always leave me smiling and feeling so good. I love the emotion she brings to the characters in any fandom. It’s been amazing watching her grow as a writer and every time I see a new fic from her, I know it’s gonna be a good night.

@theaudity – Underrated. This author deserves way more attention than they receive. They often write outside of popular tags, but their use of language and description and their ability to pull a story together is unparalleled. So vivid and amazing at drawing a reader in.

Hrmm.

I’m 38 years old. I’ve read fanfic for years, but I’m still a fandom baby - I was always on the peripheral, just reading fic and never really being involved in fandom. The Magicians/Queliot is my first real experience discussing my current obsession with a group of equally-obsessed individuals. It’s been a ton of fun and has helped so much during the past crazy year.

I’ve played roller derby for around 8 years, give or take a pregnancy and a pandemic. I hope to play again for at least one more year once we can safely return, provided my body lets that happen. Derby regularly took up at least 12 hours every week, and I have now replaced that with 20 hours a week of writing. 

I have a very dry sense of humor. I’m also rather sarcastic. I’ve had to work hard to police myself when I started chatting more online (my tone doesn’t come off as teasing, and many people just plain don’t like teasing), and while I like to think I’ve improved, I am still very familiar with the taste of my own foot.

I have a She-Ra tattoo covering one bicep - it features She-Ra, Swift Wind, Catra, and Melog.

My favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. My favorite video game series is the Mass Effect series. I have way too many unicorns decorating my home office.

10 and 37!

10. Which fic has been the easiest to write?

A toss up between The Only Exception (with the floppy hair) and i might write you down (so i can watch you leap up off the page). Both flowed really well – the only exception I wrote in three days, and the other I wrote in two hours.

37. Talk about your current wips.

This is hard because they’re all SECRETS. My Big Bang I am hyped about, I’m 30k into it, I think halfway and it’s been fun to write, flowing well. Writing on it is on hold because I signed up for a couple of fic exchanges – Smut4Smut and Original5k. The Smut4Smut, I did get matched on someone with a Magicians request, and it is almost done and has ballooned to 20k. Anyone who hangs out on the P&P discord will instantly know it’s me just from the content, but what can ya do. I am doing REALLY WELL AT KEEPING MY RECIPIENT A SECRET, though and I hope they like it. I also hope to write a couple of treats for that as well, including an original work to stretch my kink legs.

My Original 5k I’m really excited about, it’s gonna be real soft and it’s already 3k in and it’ll be at least 10k. The main characters are very similar to some in TM (surprise surprise) and has some magic in it, because I love writing in a magical universe.

I’m also participating in a Round Robin fic that I have halfway written and hope to finish in the next couple weeks.

I also have an idea in the works for the @queliotevents What If…? Event, and the prompt there is “What if the gang discovered a body swap spell during S4?” It is vaguely outline in my head, not sure how it’s going to end, I’m hoping it won’t be super long and it may not even have smut. So. We’ll see.

“Mmhmm,” Julia murmurs, the corners of her mouth pulling up as she gazes out at the city.

“Can I—get another cigarette?” It’s in his hand before he even finishes the sentence, a proffered flame flickering out of Julia’s palm. He lights it and takes a drag as he decides between sucking it up and owning the fact that yes, he’s been texting Quentin’s phone random tender bullshit for weeks now, or jumping off the balcony so he doesn’t have to face this conversation.

“So I’m not usually that pathetic,” he starts, after he’s taken a good, hard look at how far down the ground is, the thought Technically I could just float down running through his mind more than once.

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it. 

I suppose this bit from Professor Coldwater. I just like it. The tension feels good to me, the dialogue. Just makes me happy that I wrote it. (with the help from a particular beta.) 

“I’ve been thinking about you,” he continues, and Quentin’s heart nearly stops in his chest. Warning bells, sirens, flashing signs—this is not good. Not good. Eliot takes a step closer. Quentin can smell the liquor on his breath, even from a foot away.

“Well—don’t. Stop,” Quentin says, as his eyes roam Eliot’s face, down his neck, the top few buttons on his shirt are undone and chest hair is just peeping out and how is he supposed to just be an adult and say no to this?

Eliot cracks a small smile, sliding just a little bit closer along the wall. "Don't stop?" he says, and Quentin takes in his bloodshot eyes and realizes he's more than just drunk. Quentin sighs, leaning against the brick as everything tilts for a second. He’s not exactly a shining example for sobriety himself, at the moment. Or any moment, really.

“Eliot—just—please go back to the bar. You don’t really want this.”

Eliot frowns. “I’m a big boy, Professor,” he says, huffing out a breath. Oh trust me I am so fucking aware of that. Eliot’s words, with the delightful emphasis on ‘Professor', light up an entire section of Quentin's hindbrain—one that is shiny and new and ready to be explored. Eliot is making him learn all kinds of interesting things about himself.

“I know what I want. The question is,” Eliot says, Quentin holding his breath as Eliot leans into his space, “What do you want?”

Quentin’s mouth goes dry as his brain spins with acceptable responses. For you to go back to Brakebills and sober up—A nice cold glass of water—A redo of the last five years—An actual responsible adult—but what comes out is, “What I want doesn’t matter.”

Eliot’s face grows softer, the frown disappearing and his eyes searching Quentin’s face. “It does to me,” he says quietly. Cold fingers encircle Quentin's palm, and he closes his eyes as Eliot slots their fingers together and squeezes.

“Eliot,” Quentin says, talking to his shoes, not moving away as Eliot inches closer, “You don’t know me. I’m not—even if we could—it’s not a good idea. I’m not worth it. I’ll just disappoint you.”

He can hear Eliot’s smirk as he speaks. “Well, if you’re trying to turn me off, telling me about your baggage isn’t the best approach. Damaged goods? Tell me more. Where do I sign?”

Quentin barks out a laugh in spite of himself, unable to stop from squeezing Eliot’s hand. Fuck, it feels good to be touched like this. He’s touched a lot of people in the past few years… but he’s never really let himself feel them. Just holding Eliot’s hand, on the side of a busy New York sidewalk while people are ignoring them, completely unaware of the ticking time bomb they’ve passed by, is the closest Quentin has felt to another person in years.

He looks up into Eliot’s eyes, and that string snaps back into place between them, stretched so taught it’s going to break at any second. Eliot is just inches away, reeking of whiskey and cigarette smoke and a slight tinge of cinnamon, curls falling over his forehead, his lips slightly parted. He’s smiling down at Quentin and he squeezes his hand again. And just like that, the string snaps, and Quentin surges forward and captures Eliot’s lips with his own.

Year End Writers Round-Up: 2020

No one tagged me. I just like writing about myself. I would love to see your answers if you wanna do this. 

Word Count for 2020: 412,340 Words 

Wow. I’ve read fanfiction for years, but never written it. Then I watched The Magicians, remembered I’d heard that someone died in it, made it to 4.5, and immediately spoiled myself. I stopped watching it, found a FB group that led me to a discord, and then less than a month later I was pecking away at A Fillorian Knight’s Tale. (it was so hard to just link it b/c I kind of shudder when I look back at it now but ya know it’s my first fic so there it is.) Nine months and ten fics later, here we are. 

New things I tried this year:

Writing fanfiction. Modding a discord. Attempting to become a real member of a fandom, and not just lurking. Very stressful, crazy rewarding. I met so many awesome people I never would have otherwise. 

Fic I spent the most time on:

Hrm. Professor Coldwater is longer, but the plot for Quentin Coldwater & the Universal Truth took me a while to figure out, b/c it’s so much world building and combining three different universes. Plus by PC I had figured out a bit about how I liked to write, what process works for me, etc, so it’s going faster than my first few works. 

Fic I Spent the Least Time On: I might write you down (so I can watch you leap up off the page) – I wrote this in less than two hours after a short conversation with @ambiguouspenny. 

Favorite Thing I Wrote: An as-yet-unrevealed stocking fic called you said the words, and they altered the universe. It will be revealed on Jan 9. I’ve had the idea for ages, but the stocking gave me a push to write it, and it just gives me so many warm fuzzies just because it exists. For things that are published, probably a tie between This Is Me Trying and if I get burned (at least we were electrified). Funny how both are fics inspired by songs, and both Taylor Swift, lmao. This is Me Trying caused the first real breakdown I ever had over a fic (both the first and second chapters, but the first chapter was worst, as it was my first attempt at real angst and I just felt like I could. Not. Do. It.) and the second piece, a Wickoff fic based off Dress, was just fun. It was fun to explore a different mindset than Queliot, and to kind of have Queliot flailing around in the background while the main focus was on strong female characters that had their own shit to deal with.

Favorite Thing I Read:

Hard to pick. Anything by @hoko-onchi-writes, particularly Nocturnal Admissions, and also anything by @theaudity, particularly Arms Wide Open. I read a shit ton of fanfic. It is all so lovely and amazing; I can’t believe there’s such a concentrated amount of talent in this tiny-ass fandom. But the one I reread the most is something so magic about you by @misdirectedhex.

Writing Goals For Next Year:

Write something original (IE not attached to a fandom). Successfully complete the TM Big Bang. Write better. Not rage quit.

3. What were your top five books of the year?

I did not read that many published novels this year – a shit-ton of fanfic, but not many books. Out of the few I did read, I would say Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, The Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman (The Magician’s Land being my favorite), and Out by Tatum West were my favorites.

11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?

The Magician’s Land, for sure.

12. Any books that disappointed you?

I didn’t really have any high expectations for what I read this year.. I am pretty sure that Midnight Sun will disappoint me, from what I’ve heard, but that’s a 2021 problem.
