Here is a highly detailed and individual world, intimate and raw, where the clothes, the models and their presence are indistinguishable within the Rudolph Tegner museum’s matrixed cultural site. Located north of Copenhagen, the museum and its surrounding environment appear both familiar and completely alien, existing within specific moments of history, prescribed to memory rather than place. The resulting campaign images cultivate separate thrills of discovery and exclusivity, appearing as if you either came upon the space by chance or shared in a secret. In shooting at this culturally important yet underrated site, photographer Cameron McCool contextualizes CIFF RAVEN’s focus on genre, place, and space. Photographed within the museum’s sculpture garden, the models are nearly indistinguishable from Rudolph Tegner’s statues; posed together, they form a unified front, masculine and feminine bodies of uncompromising strength and striking angularity, whether it be that of cast concrete or bone structure. The building’s abstract geometries outlining their forms bring into focus the models’ languidness, the profound ease in their poses, their self-possessiveness. CIFF RAVEN’s creative direction adopts an oppositional stance, proposing a system of dressing and personal style not dependent on transparent allusions to the past. Gone are the easy references to flash fashion. Instead, we are left with a strikingly contemporary look: architectural constructions; sleek silhouettes; an emphasis on subtle colour and texture over ornamentation; sophistication laced with youthful insouciance. The resulting dynamic underscores perfectly understated and refined style. With a look towards the future, CIFF RAVEN provides a provocative, compelling preview of what’s to come.
