What struck me when I captured this image was the dichotomy between the serene, idyllic scene before my eyes and the reality that through those two beautiful lacy windows atop the bridge, as they were taken to a life of misery inside the prison (on the right), the condemned had what would likely be their last look ever at the earth, sky, and water. All the blues in this image, coupled with the sunlight farther down the canal and the dappling water, emphasize a romantic, fairy tale-like quality to the scene. ⠀ ⠀ Many of Cackie's pieces let us travel in our mind through her images without leaving our home.
