Have you ever think about dark!Ryu?

     [ In all honesty, I’ve tried to think up a dark!Ryū verse on several occasions? I had one VERY briefly I think on the first blog (and for reference, this is the third iteration of this blog lol), but it just didn’t…feel right. It felt very forced and arbitrary rather than interesting and a new spin on her character.

     The thing about Ryū is that her convictions are VERY strong. They play into her sense of purpose and identity, so trying to think of a way to change those into something that would be “evil” or harmful is just…REALLY hard to do without completely breaking her character, in all honesty. Which, at that point, means I might as well just make a completely separate character rather than call her a dark version of what Ryū is at her core.

     And while I’d like to entertain the potential of a dark!Ryū verse, I want it to make sense - I want her to have her same morals, just…in a twisted way. Like how Obito wants peace, but he goes about it in a way that does more harm than good. Or like her K.uroshitsuji verse, where she’s a guardian angel driven to extremes due to the suffering of her charges making her…unstable.

     It’s just REALLY hard to take a character who does, in all reality, little more than heal and protect and make her do that in a way that, in the grand scheme of things, is…bad. The closest thing I’ve ever come to is something to do with her dislike of shinobi and their ways of violence, and her…somehow turning into a kind of vigilante who tries to stop them…? But again…it’s hard to have that make sense when she takes, in canon, a vow of nonviolence and vows to never kill. So, what would she do with the shinobi she “defeats”? She can’t force them not to be shinobi…she can’t kill them, or she’d be stooping to their level. And while I entertained the thought of her somehow revoking or perma-sealing chakra so they couldn’t use it for ill gains, that feels (to me) like I’m giving her too much power and making her OP. Which is a VERY narrow line for OC creators to walk, especially for female OCs. Fandom is VERY quick to rip apart a female OC who has, in any sense, “too much power” and is a “Mary Sue”.

     So uh…yeah. That’s my quandary =/ While I DO like evil versions of muses, and I think it would be fun…I just haven’t found the right fit for Ryū to make that happen. Maybe sometime down the road, or if any of my mutuals have any ideas. Ryū is just…very near and dear to me, so anything I do with her, I want to respect her and her character. Making her evil for evil’s sake is shallow. She needs a reason. And one that makes sense, y’know? ]
