It's actually quite relaxing.

An interesting thing is despite getting a better result ten years earlier, Beşinci Mevsim scored more points for Turkey in the 100% jury era, with 59 points. And Sebnem would go on to improve on that the following year. While I do look highly on that one like others (and it will eventually come soon) I’d like to think of her first entry as an underrated masterpiece.

And with a single swipe of hand, one of the most effective gimmicks in Eurovision history as she removes her dark cloak to reveal a white gown.

Apparently, to some commenters, this is the best Balkan Ballad ever. While I find it really beautiful, considering none of Zejlko Joksimovic's compositions are on this list yet, it's doesn't hold much of a candle for what is too come.

Relistening to the orchestration, it really works in conveying the overall feeling. We feel that loneliness and hope for better things for Judy, though we know that won’t ever come to light for her.

It definitely lit a spark in the dull 1992 field, which didn’t exactly translate to points, though it has won my heart. From the way Evridiki moves to the way the microphone stand shakes, you’re on a wire as she tries to seduce you. (I've actually spent quite a bit of time trying to learn the handography in the bridge) The strings also add to that feeling with their sudden starts and stops--at one point, the audience clapped before the song was over!

George Theopanous (the songwriter as well as the conductor) does a good job in using imagery in the lyrics to accompany the melody, and the result is akin to a strip tease with beautiful silk clothes and lacy underwear. And in my opinion, this has more sex appeal in two seconds than Fuego has in three minutes. You can't change my mind.

It would take another thirteen years for a Finnish entry to be performed in Swedish. In addition, there was a Dutch version only used for a commercial)

The instrumental is bright and enjoyable despite the cold land of Lapponia, and Monica’s vocals sings clearly and with joy. The clapping is enough to get one up and going, and it nullifies the repetitiveness of the "nananas". And of course, her high note at the bridge absolutely nailed it!

Along with a solid result, Lapponia got Finland’s first top score (and only one until 2006--see #140 for that), but it certainly deserved more. (Why did It's Nice to Be in Love Again have to complete the top three?)

Legal Tech Startup Case Status Raises $1.5 Million in Seed Funding

Case Status, a Birmingham, Ala.-based client relationship management and marketing platform for law firms, is announcing today that it has received Series Seed II investment funding of $1.5 million from Atlanta-based venture investment firm BIP Capital.

Case Status was cofounded in 2017 by Lauren Sturdivant, a former personal injury attorney, and Andy Seavers, an entrepreneur.

While practicing, Sturdivant saw firsthand the difficulty of keeping her clients up to date. When she was unable to find a product that did that, she decided to leave her firm and build one herself.

“It’s fascinating that in a world where you can track everything — from Amazon packages to the status of your pizza order — there was no way for clients to track the status of their case, one of the most important things going in their lives,” said Sturdivant, now the company’s CEO.

Last year, Case Status shifted its pricing model, going from per-user subscription pricing to per-case pricing. Firms pay a one-time, flat fee per case that they can pass on to clients.

Case Status integrates with AbacusLaw, CasePeer, Clio, and Filevine.

BIP Capital invests in both early-stage and growth companies. Its areas of focus include enterprise SaaS, healthcare IT, digital media, development tools, and marketing technology.

“We’re excited to partner with Case Status to resolve a common but critical pain point between lawyers and their clients — a dearth in regular communications,” Mark Buffington, CEO of BIP, said in a statement.

Fleetio: Documentation Specialist

As Fleetio’s Documentation Specialist, your job is to produce high-quality, easy-to-understand documentation, instructional videos, and other help-related content to increase the productivity and user happiness of our growing customer base. You'll utilize information architecture best practices to maximize the usability and findability of our extensive Help Center. You'll analyze our customer interactions to identify articles to optimize, opportunities to add additional content, and provide feedback to the product team.

As a member of the Customer Experience Team, you will design engaging content for help.fleetio.com, including Getting Started guides, video tutorials, onboarding checklists, best practices guides, FAQs, training materials, and other content. You will collaborate with Product Managers & Designers, Software Engineers, Customer Success team members and others to ensure product and documentation continuity. You will be responsible for maintaining all key processes around content management including development, approval, publication, and refreshes. You will be an expert on the Fleetio platform and the fleet industry and use that knowledge to support various internal departments with your assistance and content.

What you'll be doing

Collaborate with stakeholders to create written and video documentation to help our customers better understand our features.

Manage all current content in the customer-facing Help Center.

Apply existing processes and develop new approaches to content management, including content identification, development, approval, publication, and updates.

Use Help Center metrics to track, analyze and improve help center content.

Become a Fleetio product expert, being aware of the latest releases and features.

Identify customer usage trends that point to areas for improvement.

Assist with answering internal product queries to identify gaps in our knowledge base.

Master our knowledge base platform (currently Zendesk Guide): adopt existing practices and advocate for new approaches and implementation.

Cross-training with the QA and Support teams to broaden your knowledge and skillsets.

Requirements

At least three years experience developing customer-facing content in a SaaS/B2B environment and experience managing the content development process from beginning to end.

A proven record of creating content and training that directly impacts customer success. We’d love to see your portfolio or some samples of your work and outcomes - please be sure to include such in your cover letter.

Ideally, our top candidate has previous experience analyzing user inactions with a tool such as Google Analytics, Fullstory or Heap.

Experience with an online documentation tool such as Zendesk Guide and video production tools such as ScreenFlow or similar.

Proven ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences.

Your work is meticulous and precise when executing a task. When it comes to details, you are painstakingly accurate and consistently thorough.

Excellent written communication skills in English.

A Bachelor’s degree in communication or technical writing or equivalent experience required.

Experience in the Fleet Management industry is a plus!

Deals and Dollars, Legal Tech Edition

Here is a round-up of recent investment and deal news involving legal technology companies:

Everlaw raises $25 million. Everlaw, a Berkeley, Calif., based e-discovery and litigation platform, has closed a a $25 million Series B funding round, with new investor Menlo Ventures leading the round and continued participation from Andreessen Horowitz. In 2016, the company raised $8.1 million in Series A funding.

In announcing the investment, CEO AJ Shankar said the company has “come a long way” since the Series A round, having expanded its workforce to 70 and its geographic reach to include Australia, the UK and Europe. He said the investment will be used to hire more staff and further develop the company’s technology.

Seal Software acquires Apogee Legal. Just a month after announcing that it had secured a $30 million investment, Seal Software, a developer of AI-powered content discovery and analytics products, announced that it has acquired Apogee Legal, a provider of advanced contract analytics for enterprises. Terms were not revealed.

Apogee and Seal have been business partners since 2015. Apogee’s employees will join Seal and its three cofounders will take on new leadership roles, with Matt Miller now overseeing Seal’s production group and legal solutions team, Steve Harber focusing on building out the Seal legal solutions strategy and the Seal legal partner channel, and Jim Wagner becoming Seal’s chief strategy officer.

PactSafe gets $5.5 million. PactSafe, an Indianapolis cloud-based contracting platform launched in 2015, has completed a $5.5 million Series A funding round. The round was co-led by Mercury Fund and Signal Peak Ventures, along with repeat investors Elevate Ventures and Vulpes Testudo.

PactSafe says it will use the funds to expand its reach further into enterprise SaaS, ecommerce markets and other verticals, while also investing in further development of its contracting software.

LegalZoom invests $1.8 million in LawPath. LawPath, an Australian legal technology startup, says it has finalized a $1.8 million investment round led by LegalZoom, the world’s largest provider of online legal solutions. Like LegalZoom, LawPath leverages technology to provide businesses with affordable legal services.

LawPath plans to use the proceeds to increase sales and marketing efforts in a bid to expand market penetration across Australia and offer its services to all types of businesses. In conjunction with the investment, LegalZoom will provide LawPath with strategic guidance, including technology expertise, marketing insights and assistance with LawPath’s expansion plans across Australia and into international markets.

Clarilis gets £3.1 million. Clarilis, a document-drafting automation platform based in Birmingham, England, has received a £3.1 million investment from NVM Private Equity, a Newcastle investment firm. Founded in 2015, the company’s platform is used by firms in both the UK and the U.S.

“The investment from NVM will help Clarilis to continue on its growth trajectory, with the funding enabling the team to accelerate their strategic initiatives and capitalise on the strong market demand they are experiencing,” NVM said in announcing the deal.
