I think people dont “forgive” Nesta because in SJM’s books, characters usually redeems themselves or their bad actions thanks to a new piece of information about their past that makes people change their opinion on them.

Characters don’t “redeem” themselves, but instead they are “excused”. Like, she describes Rhysand as evil and shows him doing pretty wicked stuff, but then she adds the fact that he did all that killing to protect his Court, some past trauma, and people kind of go with it. With Nesta, there has not been new info about her past that makes us understad why has she always been so full of rage, there isn’t an “excuse”. Feyre mentions a few times their mother’s death hit her sister heavily, but since she also describes their mother as a bad mother and and she never loved her, it’s difficult for the reader to empathize with Nesta in that aspect. 

Instead of being excused by the narrative, Nesta has been trying to improve and be more accesible to her sister. It’s all there in the books, she has actually tried, and if it’s hard to see, it’s because every time Feyre and Nesta meet since she comes back from Prythian the second time, Nesta has been in a situation  (because of the people or the place) where she doesn’t feel comfortable to let her walls down.

Even though all the characters in the book series have suffered a lot, during the events narrated, Nesta is probably the one who suffers the most, yet people don’t think it’s enough, they want her to be feel worst and apologize and suffer... It’s crazy. The woman didn’t follow her sister to the woods, but since Feyre was taken, Nesta has done everything she asked from her and more. She let feyre go hunting even though it was dangerous, but in the moment Feyre faced danger, she got over her fear and spent days in the middle of the winter trying to get her back. From that moment, Nesta has always tried to help Feyre. What has Feyre asked from Nesta that she hasn’t given her or done for her since then?

She compromised her own safaty and Elain’s so Feyre could contact the queens. She agreed to help contact them, and while under Feyre’s protection, she was kidnapped and killed, and we know her experience drowning was extremely traumatic. Feyre also died, but she went back to Prythian willing to make that sacrifice, and se has been surrounded by people who want to help her recover pretty much since it happened. Nesta only did it because Feyre asked her to, and she didn’t want to fail her again.

This post is not a list of the things Nesta has done to mend her mistakes, there are a few of those already. This is to bring up the fact that she is the only character who actively tries to be better in that way. Nobody is redeemed in this saga, they are just excused, and that’s probably why no matter how much Nesta suffers, it’s never enough.

Omg 100% yes to Gold having a tattoo, the start of secret language hc was a way for the two of them knowing that the other person is that person like if someone tried to act like henry it becomes a safaty for gold to know if that is really his son (it was a post about a teenager feeling unsafe in a situation and a way for the parent to know was the letter x) kinda like that but with the elf language and lotr being real was just basically have henry be amazed that it is real & read books about it

Once Henry starts believing in the curse the language is even more important because spies are everywhere and he can say things without worrying about anyone understanding.

Week 3 - Rise of Egypt

As World War I came to a close, politics in Egypt overwhelmingly favor independence and the fall of the Ottoman Empire becomes their best chance. Although they achieve independence, the Egyptian kings court British representatives, and Egypt becomes de facto occupied by the British.

Despite this, independence is hailed warmly and Egyptians are proud of their ability to achieve it. This generation in the early Nahda produces a phenomenal collection of some of the most memorable artists of all time. Mohammed Abdelwahab, Oum Kalthoum, and Asmahan, all contribute significantly to the modernization of Arabic music.

How does this sound different from Sayid Al-Safati’s song from last week? While that song sounded more traditional in style, this song is in the style of the rhumba genre, meant to be upbeat, rhythmic, and inspire listeners to dance. 

Despite both songs being originally poems, this is a reinterpretation that incorporates Arabic poetry and traditional lyricism with new, modern styles and genres not native to the Arabic-speaking world.
