Hello everyone, I’m Silas (not Captain Silas, mind you!) and this is my little star man Jahandar “Hands” Qasim! He’s a smart one, so watch for his tongue and his tricks. 

☸  Jahandar was born in the Mughal empire to a Muslim trading family. As such, he was given free education in theology, philosophy, languages, arts, sciences, and mathematics. It was at this time that he discovered his fascination with the stars and began to focus on studying astrology. From this came his ability to navigate, and he often uses the stars as guides when on course.

☸  He had never thought that he would be a pirate, and sometimes his mind battles between his desire to survive and thrive – a desire sated by The Merchant’s Mercy and his fellow crew – and his desire to be a good man, which so often seems at odds with his current life.

☸  He can speak Hindi, Arabic, Persian, Dutch, and English – all of which he was taught at a young age through his education and from his merchant family, who traded often with Europeans. In the course of his time as a pirate he has picked up a tiny amount of Spanish, but often butchers it if he tries anything more than a simple hello, goodbye, or a demand for surrender.

☸  He has no love for the English, being cautious of their motives in India and knowing the kingdom mostly from stories told by his fellows – criminals and traitors to the crown.

☸  He does however love his homeland, and if it weren’t for the fear that his family would no longer accept him after so many years, he would return.

☸   In matters of love, Jahandar feels quite torn. His life has changed much since he was a boy and studied the Qur’an and he is certainly no longer a strict Muslim, yet some things have stuck. He does not eat pork, he does not drink, and he fasts through Ramadan and celebrates Eid. He prays sometimes, but not always. When it comes to his love life, Jahandar is what we in modern times would call pansexual. However he feels it would be wrong to have only flings or fucks, and would prefer a long-term relationship or - preferably - a marriage.

☸   He can’t sing to save his life and has been banned from singing along in shanties/chanties.

so elias is . 1/2 of the demon twins aka the duo elias and amos. aside from his twin, he has two brothers and one sister.

and whom was it raided by ? The Merchants Mercy ofc. and they were gonna kill him but amos was a part of the crew at that time and pushed them to allow elias to just join their crew

so low and behold , elias becomes a part of the crew and works his way to being the master gunner

which he is definitely .. very skilled in that area . he knows everything and anything about guns, ammunition, the cannons, all of it !

and the gun he carries, which is a doglock pistol, is his fucking baby and he named it rose bc. why not name your gun. like why the fuck not.

he is also just... a fucking menace. always getting in people’s business, acting like the leader of the group (even tho he clearly is not ??) and thinking hes all tough shit.

and honestly. if it wasnt for his skill and role i feel like he would have been forced to walk the plank a long time ago but thats just my humble opinion on my muse!

HISTORY

TW: Death of Father Ivan was born in Olinda, Brazil, to a Portuguese father and a Brazilian mother. He grew up in a small house that back right up to the ocean, and thus, the sea was always his backyard. Ivan grew loving the sea and her mysteries and the stars and their stories. When he was only six years old, his father's ship sank after a battle with a pirate ship. From there, Ivan became determined to learn to sail to find the pirates that killed his father and avenge the man. Twelve years later, Ivan got the chance. A merchant's vessel came to port in Olinda, and Ivan signed onto the crew, hoping to use the ship as a means to a privateering ship. He sailed on the Warley until pirates besieged it, and Ivan was faced with the dilemma of joining the crew of what he wanted to hunt or die himself. So Ivan surrendered himself to the captain and became that which he hated: a pirate. Ivan sailed on the same ship, as the captain took it over, renamed it. The newly named Jewel of Antigone needed a navigator, and Ivan filled that role. He uses the position to try to track down the pirates responsible for his father's death, but he's starting to lose hope that he could personally enact that vengeance.

HISTORY

TW: Piracy, Death of Lover Born in London, Casey Callaghan grew up in a small flat with his mother, Maura Callaghan. He never knew his father, grew up only knowing that he’d died. When Casey was ten, his mother was married to Edward Ackerman. Edward was wealthy, and provided a better life for Maura. But the man treated Casey like the bastard son of a man long gone. As such, Casey never got close to the man, and the moment he was old enough to join the Navy, he did.. Casey met Carter Collingswood aboard his first ship. The two immediately grew close, and becoming lovers was a natural path for them. A few years later, the ship was sieged by pirates of The Boneheart, and Casey and Carter saw the opportunity to live by joining the pirates. The two found their place with the pirates. They grew there, flourished among the ranks. Until that fateful day three years ago. Carter, in his own time, tried to steal a painting for Casey from a wealthy man. He was caught, and hung for piracy, and his death haunts Casey even now. There isn’t a day that goes by that Casey doesn’t wonder how things could have been different, how it might have gone if Carter hadn’t tried to steal that painting for him. A few months after losing Carter, Casey met Ignacio Rojas, and he fell into a pattern of distraction with the man. They started being casual, as something to distract Casey from the empty space in his heart that was once Carter, but slowly, it started to seem more real. The rivalry between The Kraken and The Boneheart aside, Casey panicked, believing that the growing feelings with the other man meant he was replacing Carter, and he ran. HISTORY

TW: Death of Parents, Irish Resistance Fane was born in Carlingford, Ireland to parents that were very active in the Irish Resistance. As such, Fane grew to hate the British and what they stood for, wanting to see his country free. He joined the resistance when he was old enough, and fought alongside his parents. When he was eighteen, there was a skirmish that the resistance lost. Fane’s parents were both killed and Fane, himself, was able to slip the British forces and escape into the hills. He skirmished from there for five years, before Fane, ultimately, was caught and pressed into service aboard the HMS Sovereign. His time served there was truly miserable. Fane was barely paid a wage, if they remembered he was due a wage at all. Fane spent his spare moments planning how he might escape the ship, even considering whether mutiny would work or if he’d only be killed. He spent four years like that, ultimately deciding that mutiny would result in his death and he was worth more to his cause and the sister he left behind alive than dead. He finally found his potential salvation when pirates attacked the ship. Fane offered no resistance to the marauders, even going as far as hinting that he was a bard and could play. It worked as Fane was taken prisoner by the pirates, and sure, he was a prisoner still, but at least he wasn’t serving the British. Fane was a “prisoner” with the pirates for about a year, before they let him go in Nassau. From there, Fane’s stayed based. Occasionally, he’s taken “prisoner” by pirates to entertain the crew, but he lets it happen. The pirates pay him rather well, after all.

SUMMARY

Sebastian was born in Oxford, the second son of a wealthy judge who’d retired to run his land holdings. Being the second-born of three, Bastian was never meant to inherit the lands his father owned and collected their income from; all of that was to go to his elder brother Nathaniel. So, as was expected, he found a profession in which to make a name for himself, which might even one day allow him to buy lands of his own. Military life suited him best, but rather than go for the Army, Bastian studied and trained for the Royal Navy. With heavy class privileges allowing him a leg up, he made the rank of Lieutenant before he was even thirty years old, and for the last five years has been posted aboard the HMS Sovereign. At least until the Sovereign was attacked by pirates seeking revenge. Bastian doesn’t know all the details about why his ship in particular was attacked, but that hardly mattered at the time. He was proud to do his duty and defend the ship to his last breath. He nearly did, too—the marauding vessel stole a significant advantage over the Sovereign, and in the fight Bastian was thrown overboard.

The pirates hauled him out of the water and took him prisoner, in hopes that a high-ranking officer from a wealthy background might prove useful, either with information or with a tidy ransom. Since he steadfastly refused to provide the former, the pirates brought him to Nassau to be held indefinitely until his family came up with the ransom for him. Sebastian has been in the dungeons of the fort for about a month, watched over by the crew of the Golden Cairn—an ironic situation, since he was once tasked with guarding a captured member of their crew several years back with a very embarrassing outcome.

the term most often used to refer to young morrigan is spitfire.  she has to be, to prove herself as worthy of her role as the first mate.  after all, as daughter of the captain, she cannot let the crew think nepotism put her in her place- it didn’t.  if anything, her father is harder on her than the rest of the crew.

she may be small, but she is not afraid to make herself be heard.  she is the youngest of four children and the only girl, making her someone who had to fight plenty growing up.  despite her odd position as both daughter and crewmate, she views the crew as her second family, and is willing to go to any length to protect them, even though she only joined them a couple of years ago.

From a young age, moira was surrounded by music. Her little village in Ireland lay on the coast, filled with fishermen who spent their evenings in the tavern her mother, Aine, worked in. they would sing shanties and songs until late in the evening, unintentionally singing the little girl to sleep as her mother earned enough money to keep a roof over their head.

On the rare night that moira’s mother wasn’t working, she and moira would take a blanket and sit by the docks, watching the gulls and waves as moira listened to stories about her father, the brave and dashing sailor who swept into town and left Aine with nought but a pendant carved by his hands and a child in her belly. Both of which she kept close to her heart where Aine said he would forever live.

All moira wanted was for her father to come back. She dreamed he would show up, a captain of his own ship, and take moira and her mother away from the village, the tavern, and all the hard nights working. But as she grew, those dreams faded, her heart hardening against the man who left her mother alone with a child in her belly.

When moira was eleven her mother met and soon married Cillian, a farmer from a few towns over who had moved to their small village. The village had cautioned him against marrying Aine, having never truly gotten over the fact that Aine had had a child out of wedlock with a passing sailor, but Cillian was a kind man and opened his heart to the girl who wasn’t looking for a father.

Things certainly became easier with Cillian in their lives, and Moira grew to idolize the man in the way she had once idolized her fictional father. It was Cillian who taught her to play the mandolin, something his father had taught him when he was just a child. She had already gathered a rather impressive collection of songs, but with the skills of playing an instrument, Moira took to earning coin in the tavern, playing music for villagers who had once spit upon her existence. 

Life was well for many years, but soon Cillian and Aine fell ill after a particularly harsh winter. Moira had managed to avoid the illness, but with her parents unable to work, she took up all tasks around the house and continued to work in the tavern. A doctor lived in the next town over, and if she could just save up enough money, perhaps he would be able to heal her parents.

And earn enough money she did, but perhaps a few days too late as Cillian succumbed to the fever in the middle of the night while Moira performed in the tavern. But she pressed on, leaving her mother in the hands of a trusted neighbor and traveling to the next town to hire the doctor. 

But all of her money and time was for nothing as the doctor was unable to do much for her mother. Moira buried her mother next to Cillian.

She couldn’t stay in the farm house she had lived in with her parents. She also couldn’t stand to enter the tavern her mother had worked in. The only place in the village she could find any peace in was the docks, watching the gulls and the waves. It was there that she realized why she had been spared the sickness. She had someone she needed to find. Someone she could take her anger out on. Someone who had never loved her mother the way her mother had loved him.

So she grabbed Cillian’s mandolin and the pendant her mother had so treasured, and Moira left the village with a name on her tongue.

Her search lasted for ages, but soon she found her way to Nassau, somewhere she had heard a man who matched the vague description she had of her father often frequented.

She was going to find this Alistair her mother had loved. What she would do when she found him- she didn’t know. But she was going to find him no matter what.

SUMMARY

Kitty was born on a pirate ship to a woman whose insatiable lust for life and freedom inherently pitted itself against the responsibilities of motherhood. Though she did make an effort for a few years, it was simply too hard and too dangerous to raise a baby at sea, especially on a ship perpetually hunted and warring with others in their waters. So at three years old, Kitty’s mother left her in Nassau, originally handing her off to a supposedly trustworthy friend at the local tavern for safe-keeping. But her mother’s friend has even less interest in being a parent, and Kitty was mostly left to fend for herself under the legs of bar stools and tables. Almost two years later, her mother returned to Nassau, but it wasn’t to stay, or to bring Kitty with her. It was to abandon another unwanted child somewhere the pirate thought would be safe. After all, Kitty was still alive, right?

Barely out of toddlerhood, Kitty became responsible for her half-sibling’s well being, since the man they lived with at the tavern showed no interest in taking care of them. This lead to the young girl digging for scraps and leftovers to feed them both, trying to steal money and other necessities when she could. This is how she was caught by the Fletcher family, English immigrants who’d lived on New Providence Island for two generations and made their living as apothecaries. Rather than punish the starving girl before them, they brought her and her sibling into their home and raised the pair alongside their own children. It took some adjustment, after being neglected and self-sufficient for so long, but Kitty eventually came to love the Fletchers as her own family. They’d done more for her and her sibling than their own wretched pirate mother ever had. As she got older, she learned the Fletchers’ trade, becoming an accomplished apothecary herself and taking up a job in the family’s shop down at the port. Today, she’s well-known in Nassau for offering a willing hand to anyone in need, though her rough past left a wild streak in her that will have her spitting and clawing at others just as soon as running off into the trees to find solace among the plants and earth.

charlotte munroe is not new to nassau.  she is born into the munroe family just outside town, quickly making a name for herself as the village spitfire.  when she turns eighteen, she goes to nassau and begins work at the brothel.  she quickly takes a liking to the rougher clients, especially a certain first mate on the kraken.  eventually, she decides to leave the brothel (possibly related to the banning of her favorite clients, though she won’t tell), and moves to work at the local tavern.

she doesn’t give up her ways, though, quickly realizing she can trade free pints for a good fuck behind the building or in someone’s rooms.  then her favorite client disappears, presumed dead, and she closes off.  so when she sees him sitting there, like nothing happened?  well that throws her for a loop.

lyra does not know who her parents are.  or were.  she does not know if they are alive still.  all she knows is that she showed up at the tender age of two on the steps of the church in glasgow.  the nuns take her in and raise her as their ward, despite her propensity to be one of the most stubborn children they’d ever known.  

she grows bored of the church and its lifestyle, always taken in by the tales of adventures on the high seas, and at the age of sixteen she makes her move.  she steals a bundle of cash from the mother nun and buys passage on a merchant ship to the port town of nassau.  she’s heard that is the home of pirates, so surely that is where she must be.

life is hard for a bit, but she scrapes by, picking up the odd jobs around town.  her favorites are the ones that let her watch the ships come in, pirates spilling noisily onto the docks and into town.  no ship will take her, though, citing her age and inexperience (and small stature).  finally, she settles in at the brothel on her twenty-first birthday, falling in love with the fact that at least if she couldn’t sail the seas, she could at least spend her nights with pirates.

she meets dutch first, captivated by his eyepatch and his mysterious past.  then comes rosalie.  then comes both of them, and she’s in love.  when they leave her, though, she must earn her own way, waiting for her lovers to return.  perhaps one day they’ll take her with them, finally letting her become a pirate instead of just fucking them.

SUMMARY

Many details of Césaire’s past are a mystery to those who know him. Only a select few know the basic details of how he turned to piracy. As a privateer for the Amsterdam admiralty, his captain got their ship into a massive feud with a rival Spanish privateering crew. The rivalry ended in a massacre, in which Césaire’s crew only narrowly triumphed while a few of the Spaniards escaped. After stopping for repairs and resupplies, their ship headed to Sint Maarten, the Dutch-controlled half of the island of Saint Martin, where Césaire’s family lived. When they arrived, they found that the surviving Spaniards had beaten them there, killing Césaire’s family, burning their house, and attacking the remaining Dutch crew at the harbor. Again, the victory was narrow, and Césaire lost his left eye in the process, but their rivals were defeated for good. However, when he went to the local authorities to make use of the ship’s Letter of Marque so that he could legally seek further revenge to sate his loss, he was denied. His country abandoned him, and he disappeared for several years.

He resurfaced when joining the crew of the Boneheart and officially turned to piracy. After working his way up the ranks and gaining a fearsome reputation, the captain named Césaire his successor and retired without warning. For the last three years, the man commonly known as “Dutch” has commanded the Boneheart to bloody and often deadly success. His crew is loyal because he treats them well and offers them all chances at revenge, whatever that may mean for them. And fellow pirates and navies alike know that seeing the Boneheart’s flag on the horizon is a death sentence.
