12. Own any pets? At home he has a lot of farm animal friends, in addition to the reindeer his clan herds. 

20. Clothing / aesthetic Often wears vests, scarves, and white button up shirts / undershirts. Also wears items made of animal fur and skin. If I had to describe his aesthetic in a single phrase, it would be “bard-druid multiclass.” 

21. Fav foods(s) and drink(s) His favorite foods are baked fish, fried potatoes, and spice bread / cake. His favorite drinks are milk, sweet juice, and more milk.

24. Fav season In his homeland, spring. In the warmer areas of the world, autumn and winter. 

25. City or country? The port city in his homeland, and the university city in the southern lands.

27. What’s their family like? Who’s in it? What’s their relationship with them?Salem has a large, loving family. He has four other siblings. Excluding Salem, who leaves at some point, they all live fairly close to each other. 

28. Are they literate? Did they go to school? How long? What level? Yep, he is literate! School is pretty much mandatory where he’s from, but not formal like modern day education in my part of the world, so I’m not sure what “grade” he topped. He wanted to study outside of his country, but never got the chance. 

29. What was their childhood like? Fairly uneventful. 

32. What steps have they taken to overcome their main conflict? Currently, none really. He’s only made it worse. That’s where his story comes in.

42. What’s the dumbest thing your character’s done?He flew too close to the sun. 

52. How are you and your character the same? How are you different?Both: Depressed / paranoid as shit, both gay himbos, both have horrible taste in fashion, both too idealistic, both love potatoes, desserts, picking random garbage off of the ground, and reindeer. Differences: Salem is transitioned, Salem can stomach the smell of fresh fish, Salem isn’t even remotely as squeamish as me, Salem has more energy, Salem has musical talent, and Salem isn’t as relaxed.

2. Gender identityMale (Most likely born male but it’s not set in stone. I also have trouble seeing him as cisgender) 

12. Own any pets? I really want him to have a pet bearded dragon, since I can’t have one and I love bearded dragons and lizards. However, I feel like the kind of stuff he does involves too much activity and movement for him to safely have a small animal companion with him. 

20. Clothing / aesthetic The regions he explores are usually very muggy and/or hot most of the year, so he wears very comfortable and loose clothing. He is often seen with a lot of exploring / traveling / spelunking equipment with him. He wears very comfortable shoes. If I had to describe his aesthetic in a single phrase, it would be “Indiana Jones with better self-preservation.” 

21. Fav foods(s) and drink(s) Trail mix (of course), beef steak, dishes with thick and smoky gravies / sauces. HIs favorite drink, of the top of my head, is just water. He drinks beer sometimes, but not often, and he’s very picky about his beer. 

22. Fav colorHe likes green, orange, and blue. 

23. Fav genre If we’re assuming music, then folk and bluegrass. If we’re assuming books / movies, then nonfiction and academic journals. 

24. Fav season In his homeland, deep deep winter. In everywhere else except Salem’s homeland, winter or autumn. In Salem’s homeland, spring and summer. 

25. City or country? The port city south of his hometown. He also likes exploring the more barren areas of the map when they aren’t deathly hot, because there are more ruins exposed in those areas than, for example, his home area, where there is a lot of underbrush, forest, and swampland. 

26. Guilty pleasureShopping and collecting functionally useless things. 

27.  What’s their family like? Who’s in it? What’s their relationship with them? I haven’t written much about his family, but I imagine them as pretty large and local / never moving outside of their home territory. He writes to check in on them, but doesn’t go home often. When he does go home, it’s always a warm and pleasant experience. I think his family would be very proud of his career path. 

28.  Are they literate? Did they go to school? How long? What level? He is literate but, like Salem, didn’t have a formal education. He loved / loves learning and read a lot as a kid, even outside of school. Currently he is trying to get into the largest university in the southern lands. 

29. What was their childhood like? Fairly uneventful. 

32. What steps have they taken to overcome their main conflict? I’m not sure what his main conflict is yet, beside his personal problems. 

42. What’s the dumbest thing your character’s done? When he was a youngin, he climbed into a gorge in some ruins and got stuck because he couldn’t figure out how to get back. Luckily he wasn’t down there for long and didn’t get hurt. 

52. How are you and your character the same? How are you different? Both: OCD, both have a resting bitch face, both socially inept / bad at picking up social cues / introverted, both tacky as hell, both like doing shit that they problem shouldn’t (like climbing down steep ditches and stuff), both love books, both have too much hair, both have a lot of anxious energy. Differences: Kaz has much more mental and physical energy, Kaz is agile and very physically fit, Kaz makes his horrible sense of fashion work, Kaz makes his resting bitch face work, Kaz isn’t as concerned with what other people thing of him and he has a fairly stable self image.

5. What does your OC normally wear? What would your OC wear on a special night?

Salem’s current “default” outfit is a white long sleeved button up shirt, a purple vest over top, a soft maroon scarf and sash, loose greyish pants, and comfortable but stylish traveling boots. He also wears a gold hoop on his left ear. 

On a special night he might wear something similar but more crisp looking and better fitting. 

10. What does your OC keep in a secret drawer? 

Probably the standard stuff you keep in a secret drawer in case of emergency - money, favorite small items, medicines, that kind of thing. 

15. What was your OC’s childhood like? 

Fairly peaceful and quiet! He had / has a very loving family and a supportive extended community. 

20. What kind of mother/father would your OC be? 

The kind of parent who’s afraid they’re going to fuck up as a parent, but pulls it off really well and loves their child with their whole heart. 

25. If your OC has a soulmate, who is it? 

Oh You Know! 

30. Did your OC participate in extracurricular activities, and if so, what were they?

They don’t really have like…typical school extracurricular activities where he’s from - it just all blends together. But his favorite hobbies shared by his community are knitting, weaving, fishing, and music! 

35. How is your OC working towards his/her dream job and/or achieved his/her current profession?

40. How does your OC handle grief? 

Poorly, to the point that I consider it one of his major struggles and characteristics. He reacts to grief with crazed denial. 

45. What are some things that annoy your OC?

The loudness, chaos, and cold social distance of the urban areas he often finds himself in. He also hates general rudeness. 

50. What secrets does your OC have?

As much as I want to go into that, if I did it might dip into Pandemic Campaign / overall canon story spoilers. 

55. What are your OC’s thoughts on death?

He’s terrified of it. It’s one of his greatest fears, and he believes there’s not enough time in the world for him. 

60. If your OC could change one thing about him/herself, what would it be?

He wishes he didn’t have so many problems with nightmares and depression. The other thing he wishes he could change about himself is a major (but probably not very secret at this point) canon story spoiler.

Milk!

He has a LOT of favorite books. I made up a few books for worldbuilding practice awhile back, but none of them are his favorites, so I’m not sure what his actual favorite book is. He probably loves fables and kid’s stories the most, though.

Lavender, burning wood, clean fabric.

Salem things from the Pandemic campaign so far: 

He likes fish and chips, a lot. 

He likes milk and claims to keep cold milk in his cellar. 

Sexual innuendo goes right over his head. 

He’s horrible at bluffing and his emotions are very easy to read. 

He plays polka. 

He carries a giant reindeer antler on his back. 

He lives in a very very small apartment that has a cellar. 

He is shy but gets attached to people fast, especially if they are in the same situation as him. 

He’s not good with horses. 

He owns a door mat that says “Home Dear Home” and it has a picture of a deer on it. He made it himself. 

He claims to have made most of the furniture in his apartment himself, which would explain why all the chairs and tables have crooked and uneven legs. 

He has a deep voice but screams like a girl. 

He is the only human in the group and is the shortest at 5′6″-8″. 

He had to fight back the urge to yank Vyrian’s tail when she climbed over the gate. 

He loves books. 

He has an obvious dislike for rich people and calls them “worldly” while making a sour face.

On authority, he’sneutral. On nobility, he hates it, because the territory usuallycomes with excessive display of material wealth.

To finish up hisbusiness in Aeston, then either move on to another location or returnhome. He predicts that whatever happens next will most likely make itdangerous or impossible for him to continue living in Aeston.

Salem is a Virgo!

Probably Bo.

Probably that hecould stand to stop slouching.

Either Song ofMyself or The Greatest Show On Earth by Nightwish. Both immediatelycome to mind when I have to pick out a theme song for him.

I’m not sure whathis favorite band or genre would be, but I think of him as being intoall kinds of music, with his favorites being folk and progressiverock.

42. What does yourcharacter think is the true meaning of life?

He doesn’t know,and that’s one of the biggest parts of his non-D&D story.

48. What aspect ofyour character’s future are they most curious about? (If they couldknow one thing about the future, what would it be?)

That probably dipsinto D&D story spoiler territory. :3c

He doesn’t thinkmuch of it, probably because there’s not much he isn’t hiding.You would have to ask him something very specific for him todeliberately hide it.

There’s a lot ofthings that could cause him to leave the party. The biggest one isprobably murder of innocents.

Incredibly generous,to an almost naive degree.

He’s not sure ifhe can trust anyone in the party with his secrets yet, regardless of theamount of trust he’s shown the party so far.

He’s influenced bya lot of things. I think he would get along well with Venom Snake from Metal Gear Solid or Senua fromHellblade. Hellblade is what inspired me to try to make a story of myown that would reach people in the same way Hellblade reached me. 

This is Salem in general, not the D&D version. I’m not sure whothe D&D version would get along well with.

He doesn’t know,but he’s afraid of being forgotten.

Himself.

He loves all kindsof druidic magic. His favorite weapon to use is a Shillelagh /quarterstaff combo.

My sole survivor Claire was really into power armour, and conscripted to work on repair and maintaining suits in Anchorage. What's some jobs your characters have had?

My FO4 character Rook really loves working on old, ruined cars and power armor! Before I stopped playing FO4, I was working on a power armor based combat build for him. He also works as a repairman for the Minutemen settlements and designs some of their best buildings. Last but not least, he likes creating new armor modifications from scratch. 

Salem has worked as a sailor. He also remembers working with medicine, but due to his partial amnesia, he’s not quite sure what exactly he did with medicine. 

Before leaving her clan to attend the Conclave, Seldras Lavellan was studying as the clan craftsman’s apprentice, and was lined up to eventually take his place. She’s very good with woodworking. 

Atakan, my non-Inquisitor character from DAI, works as a metalsmith. He decorates armor, makes tools, and crafts small toys for the child refugees of Thedas’s many wars.

6. Does your character have recurring themes in their dreams?

He usually dreams of some kind of vacation, interaction with family or a significant other, or something related to real life. 

7. Does your character have recurring themes in their nightmares?

He has nightmares of pestilence in a great forest, of being sick from a plague or losing someone important to plague, or something related to real life, usually amplified out of proportion. He’ll also have both dreams and nightmares that are continuations of OTHER dreams and nightmares.

17. What was your character’s favorite toy as a child?

Salem had a simple plush bear as a child that he carried around a lot. He snuggled it so often that his father kept having to make or buy him a new one that looked similar. He kept playing with his bear plushies until he was about 12 years old. Now he just snuggles deer plushies instead. 

27. How does your character normally deal with confrontation?

34. Is your character more likely to keep trying a solution/method that didn’t work the first time, or immediately move on to a different solution/method?

He’ll keep trying the method that doesn’t work the first time.

Honestly not really.

He dreams about city life, studying, or having an academic paper due….which is kind of weird since he isn’t in college. He also has dreams and nightmares about stuff that is happening in the real world.

He sometimes has nightmares about falling (related to the amount of climbing and exploring he does). He also has nightmares about publishing his work and having people ridicule him.

Both!

30. What does your character find repulsive or disgusting?

Gross body stuff. And sticky dust and cobwebs.

I don’t think of him as trusting easily, so if he says “I love you,” he probably REALLY means it.

if kaz and salem could use any kind of magic at all, what would it be and why pick that?

Salem would pick some sort of soothing, healing magic, to help him and his friends deal with their pain and ailments. He would also love some nature magic to help him commune with his surroundings...and also to help him reel in the big ones when he goes fishing! 

Kaz would probably pick some kind of nature magic - it would be really helpful to all his plant-tending attempts! Moving objects with his mind would also be helpful for decorating. Another thing he would pick is x-ray vision, so he could detect and avoid creepy crawlies when adventuring through dark caves and ruins.
