Easy Rock: 10 Years of Lite and Easy Music

It was on February 1980 when ACWS-United Broadcasting Network began airing RK96 Real Radio after its split from DWBC-AM simulcast. 8 years later, in 1988, it reformatted to 96.3 WRocK and it became the close competitor of Mellow Touch 94.7 in its Easy Listening format. The station now became popular among professionals and young at heart during the 90's and 2000's. It even spreaded across the nation through 96.7 WRocK Bacolod and 95.5 WRocK Davao under the company's umbrella, plus DYRK-FM under ACWS-UBN's affiliate Exodus Broadcasting Inc adopted the WRocK format since 1993 until now which is the only-existed WRocK station in the country. During the year 2008, Manila Broadcasting Conmpany started to negotiate the station and the frequency rights with ACWS-UBN and the Honreal famiy. Thus, on October 2008, 96.3 WRocK transferred ownership to MBC's Cebu Broadcasting Company due to frequency ownership restrictions under the present 1987 Constitution. Even said that Love Radio is owned solely by MBC while Yes! The Best is legally owned by another MBC's affiliate Pacific Broadcasting Systems. The acqusition costs more than P200-Million, not including some terms stated in the acquisition paper that are fully disclosed. During the period, the studios were relocated from FEMS Tower 1 in Manila to MBC Building in Pasay, while the transmitters were moved to One San Miguel Avenue tower rooftop and eventually, to BSA Twin Towers in Mandaluyong.

After a 7-month transition period, 96.3 WRocK quietly signed-off, and reformatted as 96.3 Easy Rock. Their playlist and music library were reorganized, overhauled, and adjusted after its transition period, save for the lesser-known songs that are featured on `Pop-Up Tunes` segment every Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday. Easy Rock officially launched on July 8, 2009 after a 2-month Test Broadcast period. It was now the upscale brand of MBC targeting the class ABC market, especially office workers and professionals. Years later, Easy Rock has expanded through various FM stations that were previously known in their area as Love Radio or Yes! The Best (then Yes! FM) in key cities of the Philippines, and on the internet as well through the 24/7 streaming of 96.3 Easy Rock via www.easyrock.com.ph. It was then competing with 97.9 Home Radio which they were the top easy-listening station in past surveys before experimenting other formats and eventually regained the Easy Listening format in 2017.
