I used to eat little too, and I liked to eat ugly looking things, but recently I've been findin' things "delicious." My appetite might've increased from that?

Plus, people would make me things or send me things while I'm at the dorm.

Mika: Eh?! We just got the concept yesterday, and ya already made the storyboard?!

Mika: No, this is more than enough. Oshi-san's so cool, you work so fast!

Mika: Ehehe, maybe so. I'll skim the storyboard. Hm...?

Wuee-----eh? a marionette...?

Oshi-san, I get that we have to work off my concept, but why did the artist create a marionette? Don't artists draw 'n paint 'n stuff? Plus, this feels very ex-Valkyire-y.

Shu: Ah, we're creating a fairytale---which takes concepts of the past. Which is why we are working with a common concept from Ex-Valkyrie.

Paitings and sculptures... I bounced around many ideas themeing them as concepts of eternity, seals of the past, etc etc, and still thought a marionette was the easiest to work with.

Compared to something inorganic. humans are likely to resonate more with something that looks like them and are more likely to be captivated by that as well.

Artists are more or less interested in humans, so there's many a few artists that are also experts in medical science. So, I've chosen the marionette---the closest to actual humanity---as a theme.

Mika: Uwah~ So that's the case. The MV looks supa pretty from the storyboard.

But is it really okay to have such a detailed set? Wouldn't we be spendin' too much money? Wouldn't the people at the agency get mad...

Shu: That's quite alright. I've already spoken with the agency. Back to the topic at hand---have you memorized everything?

Mika: Yup! I have it by heart. Let's start practicin', Oshi-san!

Mika: ♪~ ♪~

Shu: (Hm?)

Kagehira, stop for a second.

Mika: What's wrong, Oshi-san? Did I do somethin' wrong?

Shu: It's not that. It's just... something doesn't feel right.

Shu: (He's not missing anything---on the flip side, he's actually giving too much. Although I am beyond happy that he's more human now, and I've accepted Kagehira as an artist.... I never thought it'd become an obstacle in our work.)

It's not just about having a monotone facial expression, your fingertips are still overflowing with life. Can you even call that "having nothing?"---if you can't have the mindset of a monk, you won't be able to achieve "eternity."

324: There’s a story behind this one.. Back when we were traveling on tour I woke up in the middle of the night shaking everyone with “Guys, hear me out. I want to do a song about a Daruma-san that's fallen down. We can play ‘Daruma-san ga koronda’ in the middle.” They found it interesting as well, we got fired up together, thence we have the song we have now.

Sekihan: In regards to the lyrics, we were influenced by our obsession with fitness strength workouts, so the enumeration of muscle training equipment is in there.

Ponikingdom: We also didn’t want to stick only to physical, so we broadened the theme to encompass mental as well, like let’s get through this “Stress-centered society”.

Sekihan: Life is full of unfairness right. What’s important is to not fly off the handle and spout out whatever you feel on the spot, but to ask yourself “I have these emotions: now what stance do I want to take?.” “What should I do next?”. I strive to do so at least. As such this band’s ideology is to “output everything in a celebratory happy go lucky way.”.

— So you need to make everything happy go lucky then.

Sekihan: Yeah. I learned that’s how I wanna live. I used to lash out with hate as soon as I felt it. Now that I’ve grown to be the better person, I want to take positive stances. Not to mention that Darumas are a good luck charm. So toying around with the culture* of “Daruma-san ga Koronda” was bound to be fun. All paths led to here.

mao: There’s a surprising amount of material in our songs that will go over people’s head if we don’t explain it. 95% is all our joking around stuff. The remaining 5% is the core stuff which requires deep knowledge or else.

Lyric breakdown

●  “かわしゃんせ” やんす/やんせ is formal verb that was used during the Edo era, meaning “Please go do [x]”. The x is this instance is believed to be かわす/躱す. As in.. to dodge and slip through the society, swift like the wind... Because...

● “ひゅるりらり: is akin to the sound of the wind or flutter : using the beauty of nature in music is wafuu. ○ The melody of the line is also in the pentatonic scale, with yona-nuki = a trait of wafuu music. And most importantly in seven-five syllable meter/five-seven syllable meter, this cause the lines of the chorus to sound very wafuu indeed!

● Their trend of ate-ji continues, this time with “家(house[ie])” for a Yeah! sound and “陽(sun rays[yoh])” for Yo!

● “オエオエオ”: Sound of spooky creeping.. or.. It may be a reference to the unique quip of one of Saruganseki’s well-known songs. ● "I’ve never been beaten even by my father.. Amuro Ray" In an episode of Mobile Suit Gundam (1997), Amuro Ray gets into a quarrel with a fellow pilot, one which gets him punched three times. Amuro bites back with "You hit me x2! I've never even been hit by my father!”... Amidst a society on the verge of ending domestic violence, this quote took off! It was used in commercials, it was parodied in countless other medias, all for the sake of implanting concord in society.

● ‘Ultra song’ is a tribute to the song ‘Ultra Soul’ by B’z. An extremely popular title.

● Keypoints on the Daruma

● Daruma san ga koronda is a game, the western equivalent would be red light green light. One person stands in front of the crown with their back facing. As soon as they finish voicing the phrase “Daruma-san has fallen down!” they turns around! Anyone caught moving will lose: if you’re standing absolutely still then you win.Omedeta play a mini version of this the game during concerts too!! ⇒ https://twitter.com/omedeta_japan/status/1017537539865960448?s=21● ●  The way to handle a statue of the daruma is less rowdy though! The step is first make a wish, then fill in the daruma’s left eye to signify it. Ink like permanent marker will work just fine. When your wish comes true, fill it the right eye! ● Daruma History via

Darumas finds their origins in the Edo era during the smallpox outbreak. Fearing sickness, people took to making wish. Since the color red is believed to ward off evil, a demand arose for darumas to be painted red to ward off smallpox. It’s said that darumas were placed beside children’s pillows during the outbreak.

After the treatment for smallpox was invented, the darumas of Edo drifted off into the shadows.

In gold letters, on its stomach are the words “福入 [Happiness here]”, on its shoulders are written wishes such as “家内安全 (Household health and protection - same as the song’s lyric) or 商売繁盛(Prosperity in business)、大願成就(Fulfillment in endeavors)、or 目標達成(Goal achievement)”. Darumas with scriptures upon them are a common sight across the country. Also, the proverb “Knocked over 7 times: Bounced back up 8 times(七転び八起き)” comes from them, because no matter how many times they fall over they bounce back up. Its stable center of balance reflects the state of the heart, no matter what troubles appear, we can cope with them as long as we keep a calm heart and perseverance.

⚘Backstory?

We were on the way back from our language exchange in France, I stayed in Vichy while my friend was located in Lyon. My destination was the last one, so we were the first to hop back into the bus again for our trip back home. I was listening to some newly found hip hop music until we picked up the students in Lyon and I re-united with my friend. We halted at a service area to buy some lunch and have a break from all the driving. My friend and I sat on a trailer somewhere in the parking lot, ate and talked about our experiences during the past three weeks. She then told me about Kpop and how she finally, really, got into it. She'd been listening to some kpop songs for years and never told me smh but never fully got into it, I believe. However, she made me interested in it and a day later(?) back in school she was watching an MV during the big break before French class and I asked what she was watching, so she showed me and it was Hero by Monsta X. I was immediately hooked because I loved the song. Though, back then I remember how them grabbing their crotches and lifting their shirts while dancing made me really uncomfortable and nowadays I'm into it lmao. :')

Feel like getting into Hotshot?

Here’s a list of things to help you! I really really do recommend that you give them a shot (haHa) because they’re so incredibly talented, and not to mention the members are super extra and funny and sweet and cute and etc. They’re just really great and you won’t regret stanning them I promise! 

First off, an intro to Hotshot - this is going to be long so brace urself ok

MEMBERS: Leader Junhyuk! He’s tall, handsome and has the voice of an absolute angel.

Rapper Yoonsan! Used to be an underground rapper, spits absolute fire, a little awkward, pokerface 90% of the time.

Dancer Timoteo! He’s tall, amazing at dancing and you probably have heard of him because he’s friends with a lot of idols. (Jimin thanks to: Timo hyung).

Krump monster + dancer + rapper(?) Kid Monster! You might know him as Taehyun, he’s a super tiny lil thing and he was a participant in PD101 and was in the most popular dance crew in SK - Monster Woo Fam.

Main vocal Sungwoon! You might know him from Produce 101 - he’s now a member of Wanna One (still a member of Hotshot though!) He has the most amazing voice I have ever heard. Sorry I just had to use this gif he’s so fackin cute SUhfojwngrowijg.

Maknae Hojeong! This kid is G O R G E O U S ! He has a super unique voice, and super hot body, a super cutie. Golden honey skin~~

Okay so those are the members. Let’s move onto some music!

Take A Shot: Their debut MV / song. The person who edited this went a little “edit crazy” and…just watch it for yourself, you’ll know what I’m talking about!

I’m A Hotshot: Green hair Sungwoon, you’ve probably seen clips of this MV on PD101! Kid Monster rapping 8)

Watch Out: Personally this is my fav MV. The dance + and the song are both great and really showcase their talent.

Midnight Sun: I think we all generally like to pretend this video doesn’t exist….it’s pretty low budget, but the song itself is good and it’s pretty different to anything they’ve done.

Rain On Me (Not an MV): My favourite song of theirs. This one is also different to the rest!

Step by Step: One of their Japanese songs! Kid Monster looks great in this video (hehe i’m biased sorry) and his vocals are showcased well here.  One More Try (Not an MV): This song is a song that I feel like people forget exists? It’s one of their Japanese songs!

Watch Out (大叔你老了): They debuted in China with a a Chinese version of of “Watch Out” - unfortunately the only audio I can find is this really shitty one wrgjaiowgwra And that’s that for music. I know, they don’t have many songs but the songs they have released are realllly good!

UPDATE: THEY HAD A COMEBAAAAAAAACK!

Jelly: ??? UM?? What can I even say?! This is their first song after a two year hiatus and it’s SOOO good! Choreo by the one and only Roh Taehyun! Also...San is in a cage...? + this comeback (and a few more to come(?) will be without Sungwoon since he’s currently a Wanna One member!) HERE is the Jelly fanchant and it makes everyone super emo because it has NEVER been that loud before !!!!

OTHER VIDEOS THAT YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY WATCH:

This one is a video where they have to try and guess kpop songs. They can only hum (and dance?) and the other members have to guess what the song is. They’re split into two teams and it’s just funny to watch. “Musta Gusta Fu”.

This one is where they do the same thing but with english pop songs. They seem to be able to guess these better? Most people who watch this and aren’t into Hotshot yet tend to look into them after this.

This one is where they try to guess peoples ethnicities. They’re TERRIBLE at this but it’s my favourite video to watch, I probably watch it at least 3 times a week….(Comment on the video that made me scream: Kid Monster is so loveable)

Q1: Tell us the origin of your name!

My parents got married because of a child, so I heard that they chose the first kanji in “marriage”. I personally like my name! Its certainly rare, but comfortable. Also when writing “Musubu” in hiragana, its like Ma Mi “Mu”, Sa Shi “Su”, Ba Bi “Bu”. All of them are the third in hiragana. So it is also like the meaning that you don’t have to be the best, being #3 is ok too. Well, I’d like to be number one if possible, anyway (lol).

Q2:  What senior do you aim towards?

It has become the “legendary person” now, Momochi-senpai (Tsugunaga Momoko). While doing activities with her while she was active in Country Girls, I got to see her cool figure, I’m doing my best to aim towards that kind of figure!

Q3: Who would you want to be reborn as?

Angerme’s Sasaki Rikako-chan. Contrast to others, her style is good, and isn’t her face extremely beautiful? This is a bit directed towards myself, but I think I have am a cute-type. If I could be replace myself once, wouldn’t it be like seeing a whole new world? Also she is tall, so I honestly want to see the change in scenery (lol).

Q4: What are you the best at within Hello! Project?

My low height. It’s not that I think this, it’s just how it really is (lol). Although if you add in the Hello! Project Kenshuusei that may not be the case. Therefore when it’s just the kenshuusei, I also stand there with a big face like theirs (lol). My father was worried about my height because I was not growing much so he took me to the doctor. I got an X-ray of my left hand. Its seems that if there are gaps in the bones in your hand, you’re still growing, but mine are already closely packed together. I’m healthy, but my doctor told me I wasn’t going to grow anymore (lol). My family is also tiny so I think its genetic. I don’t want to take as a drawback from myself, taking advantage of my height, I think I can take on the image of being a mascot!

Q5: Tell us something amazing about Hello! Project!

It’s our performances, of course. I first took interest in Hello! Project with S/mileage’s song “Chotto Mate Kudasai!”. Up until then my image of idols was they were absolutely pigeon-toed! But when I saw the MV they were dancing bow-leggedly (lol). I thought “eeh! Idols can dance like that?”. It was cute and shocking to me.

Q6: Who would you want to be in a Hello! Project special unit with?

I want to sing with Morning Musume ‘17’s Haga Akane-chan! Its something I say often. We were in the same generation of kenshuusei, during that time we diligently studied together. At that time, I was taller, but now I’ve been overtaken (lol). I want to sing W (double-you) songs with her.

Q7: Tell us an Angerme song you like!

“Dondengaeshi”. It’s a song from before I joined, when I first heard it I intuitively liked it. It has a rock sound with use of lonely sounds, but I like that the lyrics are forward looking. Therefore now, it is exciting to sing 

Q8: What is a Hello! Project song you like?

“Kimagure Princess” (Morning Musume). I like Takahashi Ai-san’s expressive power, every time Takahashi-san sings her part at the hook its different every time in live performances. The dancing is good, how they talk is good. I admire it, I’m always dancing to it in front of my mirror.

Q9: What is the difference between previous and current Hello! Project?

I don’t know of the past but,  recently its like before the fans eyes there are many changes. I am also one of these changes, though. There are traditions but, we’re moving so fast that there are perhaps new things as well.

Q10: Other than yourself, who is your oshi within Hello! Project?

Angerme’s Kamikokuryo Moe-chan is beautiful after all, I think you can objectively see this. Simply put I have become a fan of hers. She comes off as being idol-like, however she isn’t a graduate of Hello! Project Kenshuusei. She is exceptionally talented. Speaking of exceptional, that Funaki Musbu-chan girl is also cute, I think she is good (lol).

Q11: What do you want us to see most from yourself?

My facial expressions. Normally, when I’m talking I’ll make various expressions with my face, I’ve often been told that I have an abundance of expressions. I am extremely conscious of my expressions when singing as well. In particular if it’s a cool song, I always sing with the image like I’m five years older than I am (lol). I may be a small girl but, I think that my strange presence comes out and is funny. I am conscious about it.

Q12: What is work you would like to challenge?

I want to go on lots of television shows. There is a mountain of programs I want to appear on. I’ve gotten to appear on shows with girls of my same age like “Hanamichi Test” (NHK Etele) and “Oha Suta” (TV Tokyo) but, I’ve become a bit more of an adult, so I think I’d like to appear on many golden programs.

Q13: What do you want us to see from Angerme?

Our rock part of course. Before I joined the various personalities were strong, but it wasn’t like the personalities were clashing. Like an unbalanced balance. Its really cool because its like we encourage each other. I think I have always seen it, and I hope that I can put in a bit myself soon. It’d be nice to create something new.

Q14: What will you be doing in 20 years?

35-years-old. Eeh, what would I be doing? Ideally, I’d like to become an adult who is immersed in doing her favorite things. I am weak at getting interested in things I’m not initially interested in. I’m a bit of a superficial type as well. Now, I’m living the dream of being an idol; when I look at other interests, I’d like to become an adult who can immerse herself into things.

Q15: Since it’s the 20th anniversary, tell us a secret!

Before joining Hello! Project, I thought I was the cutest in the whole world (lol). Well, I think that if you don’t think you’re cute you don’t want to become an idol, I have somewhat confidence in this. I also look like a doll, I’ve been told I’m really cute, so I was brought up under the assumption that I was the cutest in the world. But, when I joined Hello! Project, no matter where you look everyone is cute, so I came to not think so about myself. But I like cute girls, so it wasn’t shocking, it was more like ‘ah, there are lots of cute girls!’ and I was pleased (lol).

Q16: What do you want to do after the 20th anniversary?

This can be for all of Hello! Project but, Momochi-senpai’s graduation live was an outdoor one. With that, outdoor lives are really fun. Therefore, I’d like Angerme to have an outdoor live. Energetic wind blows through the stage, and I think it really matches the energetic performance!

Q17: What would you do if you weren’t an idol?

Perhaps I would have become part of a theme park crew. I like seeing peoples smiles, so its work I’d like to try doing once.

Q18: What are you most into right now?

It was a short term interest, I’m always eating the same thing. Recently I’ve been into ice cream “the crepe”; it was from my neighborhoods convenience store, but the ice cream isn’t sold anymore. At that time I suddenly raised my voice in shock; when I find it next I’m going to buy ten of them (lol).

Q19: Who do you get along best with in Hello! Project?

A lot of members but, coming from the same Kenshuusei generation, Juice=Juice’s Danbara Ruru-chan. She recently joined Juice=Juice so our opportunities to talk have increased. A bit ago, we went and saw the movie “Let Me Eat Your Pancreas” together. Ruru-chan was super cute as she cried a ton. Also, we have both grown a bit and we nervously went to an adult-like shop and ate meat together (lol).

Q20: What is an idol to you?

Here, you’ll hear an echo saying “your life calling!”, you make people smile, you have to be interested in doing entertainment work. Recently, I want to do different kinds of lives, I’ve thinking of ways I want to show things. Your goals can become detailed, you want to work hard in order to achieve it. My number one goal is to achieve something. For example Momochi-senpai, only the many times she appeared on TV remain but, I also want to make people know about Hello! Project, I want to be able to attract people in various ways!
