Yesterday was a full day, but we got so much in. Our kids are troopers and earned their afternoon swim at the hotel pool followed by the most affordable meal we’ve had in San Juan @bebosbbq. The day is not even over, as from Bebo’s we headed back to Luquillo beach for the sunset and a late night swim. More pics to come. Total strangers have told our kids to appreciate their childhood. More San Juan food pictures because oh my goodness, this little island offers such diversity of food. I love pastel and it’s so time consuming to make, so we had to go to @eljibarito77 to enjoy some and some fried plátano and yucca. Next it was time for the cheapest meal (yet so yummy that we went back right before jumping on our flight) of our trip. The best mofongo we had was at Edelweiss Bar & Grill Restaurant Luquillo. Let’s talk about Puerto Rican food and how to manage your food budget while traveling to the Isla del Encanto. We’re foodies, but to us that doesn’t mean that we have to eat every meal at a 5 star trendy and hip restaurant. There are no shortage of those options in the San Juan area, but on this trip we wanted to indulge in as much comfort food as possible. This means that I researched San Juan #cheapeats and let me tell you that our meals didn’t disappoint. We ate from outdoor food truck concepts like @elvagon, ate rice and beans for breakfast @piubellogelatopr and enjoyed piraguas from a food vendor in Old San Juan. We even stopped by a cheap eats chicken place @bebosbbq.65infanteria for a $10.00 whole chicken prior to boarding our return flight home. Let me tell you, that I’m so glad that we did because due to a flight delay and traffic, we didn’t eat again until 6:30 pm. Yokahu Tower @elyunquenationalforest is an accessible lookout point. There are stairs up to a viewing area, but the actual tower can be reached via car. There’s also a small gift shop and bathrooms. After lunch and cooling off in the AC at @eljibarito77, we walked in the hot San Juan mid day sun to our favorite secret sea glass beach. We spent two hours walking and searching for sea glass. As New Englanders who must dig and search for hours for a single piece of sea glass, San Juan spoils us.
