god but you just KNOW heiji would be the fucking star in a hanazakari no kimitachi he au. like he's literally obsessed with kudo enough that it's plausible he moves overseas just to attend the same school as him, much less to say if it's just to a different part of the same country. In fact I'm nearly certain he didn't do it in canon only because conan's stuck in elementary school and he can't get away with that. we can even get transgender heiji while we're at it.

[2020年8月9日] kahakugeki daisenshuuraku curtain call translation (touken danshi + gracia) <3
( ) = clarifications/actors' inputs, [ ] = my inputs
Nanami Hiroki: (smiling) I’m Hosokawa Gracia’s actor, Nanami Hiroki. Today, in this current moment, a single flower of miracle has bloomed. Currently, in this kind of situation, to be able to reach senshuuraku is truly no easy thing. The fact that the staff, cast, and audience, everyone, could make it bloom in the midst of their lives made this a flower of miracle. To those who are watching from far away, I offer the sincerest gratitude from everyone involved in this performance. I pray that the flower of miracle in everyone’s hearts will continue to bloom beautifully forever. Thank you for today.
~~~
Wada Takuma: Continuing, with the touken danshi cast’s messages (sharp intake of breath). [its obvious he’s trying to keep his composure.]
Hoshimoto Yuzuki: Here. Once again, I am Jizou Yukihira’s actor, Hoshimoto Yuzuki. Thank you for watching the play. A while ago, aneue said so too, that a flower of miracle has bloomed. I truly think that is because of all the visitors here, and all the people who supported us till today, and everyone who came to the theatre, all the cast, staff, and everyone involved’s efforts. About all these petals; I hope that they will reach your hearts again, and after that, I’d love for something to continue onwards*. I really love everyone in this cast, this staff, this company. I’m glad I met Jizou Yukihira. I’m glad I met Touken Ranbu. I’m grateful for all these encounters. Truly, (sniffs) thank you very much for today (bows and then gestures to Kokin.) [* as in, wanting to appear in a future sute production apart from kiden]
Tsukamoto Ryo: Playing the part of Kokindenjunotachi, I’m Tsukamoto Ryo. Really, to be able to have come this far, to have met this wonderful cast, to have met you all, to have met Kokindenjunotachi, made me really happy. I really love everyone. Thank you very much!
Ohmi Takuto: I’m Kotegiri Gou’s actor, Ohmi Takuto. Of course, I’m very thankful, very glad to have made it till here, but more than anything else, though the days fighting along with Kotegiri Gou were very harsh, I was happy precisely because of that (sniffs). I will definitely return stronger next time, so since it’ll be a long-awaited day, please support me. Thank you so much for today :D (full kotegiri gou smile).
Izaki Ryujirou: As Shishiou, I’m Izaki Ryujirou. Thanks to everyone’s overwhelming, thorough cooperation and brave determination, we were able to depart on 38 sorties. Thank you very much. Like this, to be able to stand here as Shishiou alongside Nue (pats Nue’s head), is something I think of with pride. Thank you very much for visiting us today.
Matsui Yuho: I’m Kikkou Sadamune’s actor, Matsui Yuho. Come to think of it, to be able to say a dream has come true is really a wonderful thing. I held hopes of appearing in tousute, so I’m really happy this one dream came true. That’s why my next dream is to be able to finish smoothly on tousute’s stage again with everyone’s smile. That’s my dream now. Please meet me with a smile once more (smiles). Thank you.
Sano Mashiro: I’m Nikkari Aoe’s actor, Sano Mashiro. Eh….yes…(trying to keep it together) um, it’s an unexpected coincidence* with yuho-san, but my dream came true too. For the sake…of that dream…all the effort….working hard all along….if I was unsuccessful, I would be devastated, I would be miserable, there were times I thought I’d give up (he has a tight throat and a bit of a stutter), but like the end where Jizou says “my dream, too, has become a useless flower,” and Kasen responds with kindness**, I’ve had people who supported my back, who were thoughtful, who scolded me, who fascinated me, thanks to those people, I’m standing here having my dream come true. Right. I still have another dream. From tomorrow too, I’ll work hard. Thank you for visiting and watching. [* the term mashiro used is literally ダブルエン. ** ‘Kasen says words of kindness’ / Also, i missed out a few words because he was so near to crying i couldn't make them out :( ]
Umetsu Mizuki: I’m Yamanbagiri Chougi’s actor, Umetsu Mizuki. Due to various people’s strength, we finally reached here. I’m feeling immensely proud of the fact the lamp* was protected all along, but before that; are you watching? (laughs) This is tousute!! This is the power of theatre!!! The full extent of that fact is sinking in right now. Thank you so much for coming today. [*I thought ume-chan mean ひ as in 火, but 灯 makes more sense given the title and the lamps’ significance to this story.]
Wada Takuma: I’m Kasen Kanesada’s actor, Wada Takuma. Thank you for visiting today. Also, thank you to those watching the livestream. During the previous production’s, Iden’s senshuuraku’s live viewing, I saw this current production’s announcement from the theatre seat along with everyone in the audience. Ever since that moment, this has been a very, very, long-awaited work*, but, I never imagined it’d take a form where the curtain – such a form where the curtain would close halfway. Since Suemitsu-san added the word ‘lamp’ to (this) butai touken ranbu, us actors, and all those related, tried with everything we had to prevent the flame from being extinguished up till now (pauses to collect himself). We couldn’t show the vision of ‘kiden’ to everyone, but, as Yamanbagiri Chougi’s actor umetsu-kun said, the power of theatre, the stage's magnificence, is something you all have proved to us these past days. What – what do I say about today...whether to call it strange, or mysterious…… since swords have their own numbers, Kasen Kanesada is the 89th one right? (smiling) To say be able to say today is the 9th of August* (wipes tears) what kind of ironic fate is that? Somehow, I’ve got bittersweet feelings, but surely, the historical Hosokawa Tadaoki and Gracia-sama are saying “give it your all!” while pushing my back forward***. That’s what I selfishly think. At the very end of the performances, I recite a poem I wrote myself but, (deep breath) someday, for the sake of the day the work called ‘kiden’ is delivered, I will choose the moment I recite the poem. Today, I will end on this note. Truly,
(everyone) thank you for visiting us!
[*I don’t know if I could get the point across, but kuma’s saying that with more of a personal emphasis, as in he looked forward to it from the bottom of his heart. **Japanese dates are written month-day. So 9th of august = 8/9. Happy kasen kanesada day! ***kuma had so many shuddering intakes of breath, it was painful to hear again and again as I rewound for translating this.]
One of the first mangas I read that just became The Manga for me was Hanazakari no Kimitachi e by Nakajo Hisaya (Published as Hana Kimi in english). It's a 90s shojou manga with all that entails, long long legs, blooming flowers behind every character, an over the top plot. I loved it. I must have checked out all 22 volumes from the library a dozen times at least.
It follows Ashiya Mizuki, a girl who enrolls in an all boys school in order to get closer to her hero, high jumper Sano Izumi. She disguises herself as a boy and moves from America to Japan because his high jumping is the most beautiful thing she's ever seen. It was funny, it was focused on interpersonal relationships and how the characters grew as people and accepted themselves and I loved the art. I couldnt get enough of it. One of many things I was obsessed with as a youth that hit different now that I know I'm transmasc. Like, hmmm I wonder why I obsessively read and reread a story where a girl disguises herself as a boy and lives as a man for several years (distant sound of eggshells cracking)
Hana Kimi meant a lot to me and I'm gaining a deeper appreciation of why as I reread it. If you like 90s shojous it comes heartily reccomended.
Hana Kimi was one of the first things I read with gay characters who weren't a punchline. One of the main characters has a crisis of sexuality and ends it by deciding it was fine if he liked boys and girls! It felt fucking revolutionary for me as a queer kid in the 2000s. Mizuki didn't act like being a boy was impossible or a burden, or that being a girl was awful and being a boy was her only escape, she enjoyed being both genders! It meant so much to me to have a story where gender and sexuality were somewhat, if not fully, fluid.
The fact that Mizuki and Sano keep doing all this and Mizuki is still like “nah…..he’s not in love with me …….” Girl you are stupid. Like completely and totally the most oblivious person alive.
