Just got my new baby (again)!!!
hey r/cars!
So I've had quite an interesting last few months. I tried to keep it short, but it's such an series of events that I need to provide many details otherwise you probably won't believe me.
So here we go. The day is February 12th (or something like that), and I'm driving the car of my dreams. It's a 2011 Audi A4 with the StaSIS touring package and an APR stage 1 tune. I absolutely loved this car. I had been a huge fan of the Transporter movies growing up, and in particular his Audi A8. In my opinion, there is nothing slicker than a phantom black Audi (RS7 pls) that has just been detailed. While I'd love an RS4 is an RS6, they're still a bit out of my price range...for now. So I settled with a loaded A4.
It was true love. I had done a few things over the two years that I had it but didn't really didn't have huge plans. My next upgrade was going to be a B7 RS4. I just love that 4.2 V8 and the car's looks in general. To help bolster my income, I decided to do Uber alongside my real job. Two days into my Uber escapades, I had just come to a full stop at a stop sign on a two line, double lined road, when a car came barreling by me in the oncoming lane because apparently he didn't feel the need to stop. Unfortunately, he hit me in the rear left side of my car doing about 35 and I FELT it...and so did my car. It may not look too bad in the photos, but the wheel and tire were about six inches forward in the wheel well and something was clearly very wrong with the rear axle because it was not drive-able whatsoever. In retrospect, I'm SO glad I didn't have a passenger in the car when he hit me. I would have never been able to live with myself if something happened to them. I filed a claim, the other party was assigned liability (thank god, I've heard horror stories about this), and they determined the vehicle had about 16,000 dollars worth of damage and thus was a total loss. I was heartbroken. I had planned to have this car for a good amount of time and driving it was an absolute pleasure. Even two years later, I was always looking for reasons to go out for a drive.
Nevertheless, I needed a car and I needed one now, so I went car-shopping. I decided that I wanted to go for something sporty but practical, and so I found myself in the hot-hatch section. I was torn between a GTI and a Focus ST, and ultimately went with the ST because it felt like a more raw driving experience and I really like the design language Ford has been going with over the last 4 or 5 years. I loved my new Focus ST. It was quick, practical, and really nice to look at! The first 800 miles were pure bliss. I ordered an Accessport and planned on doing a stage 1 tune at around 5,000 miles after I had driven it stock for some time. I had my mods timeline all planned out. Then the unthinkable happened. One rainy night, I was driving home from class and an old lady in a beat up old Saturn cut across on a yellow-red light (no arrow) and gave me no time. I slammed on the brakes and immediately lost traction. I knew I was going to impact, so I braced myself and hoped for the best. I turned out fine, but my car (1, 2) didn't. She was fine, and I had whiplash, but once again, my car was totaled, so I immediately started the insurance process yet again. Liability was assigned to the other party once more, and I was issued a check. 800 miles. I was terrified of driving. I took two months off and used my parents spare, beat up but LARGE tahoe until I was ready to buy once again.
Two months later, I went back out to find a car. I gravitated toward the Ford dealership yet again and I'm not sure if it was divine intervention or what, but there was an Oxford White ST2 sitting there, calling my name. It had every option my previous ST2 had and nothing it didn't. I had to have it. So here I am, with another ST2 in hand. I'm going to do my best not to wreck this one! :)
TL;DR: totaled my audi a4, totaled my Focus ST, found new ST, bought new ST, trying not to total new ST.
