It would have been difficult to forget someone he’d met in that form that had actually been shorter than he was, but the light rain surfaced the memory with even less effort. The strange girl he’d briefly shared a shelter with during that chaotic weather was there under a tree, appearing just as unruffled as she had back then. His own defense against a chilly dampness was a black umbrella he held over his shoulder, which stayed where it was as he diverted his course to speak to her.

“How dead are you feeling today?” he asked with a cheery smile. “You seemed doubtful last time we met.”

He didn’t expect her to remember — if this was just an unnerving encounter for her, that was fine with him.

"Well this place is fucked,” Akira muttered under his breath, eyes passing over what were once buildings. Now there was only unstable concrete and a mess of greenery threading through it.

Yesteryear was supposedly a ruin that wasn’t temporary like the time Spirale was fading in and out; it was also supposedly crazy bad luck to visit. The first had him wary, but he didn’t care about the second even when warned repeatedly earlier by someone from Spirale. It got annoying after the first time.

Walking through with Mirae felt familiar with the situation so close to last time. He moved ahead slowly to avoid tripping without keeping his attention constantly on his feet. Better for her short legs.

“Can I ask where you’re from?” he asked her, loud enough to easily hear. She wasn’t a hostile supernatural being like he was used to, so he was still curious.
