Top 5 Reasons Why Condominiums are Ideal for Retirees Considering Toronto Condos for Sale
As individuals transition into retirement, they often seek a living arrangement that aligns with their newfound lifestyle, characterized by reduced responsibilities and a desire for convenience. For retirees considering urban living, Toronto Condos for Sale offer an attractive option. Condominiums provide an amalgamation of convenience, security, community engagement, and accessibility, aligning seamlessly with the needs of the retired demographic. This article explores the top five reasons why condominiums are becoming the preferred choice for retirees in Toronto.
1. Maintenance-Free Lifestyle
One of the paramount benefits of residing in a condominium during retirement is the minimal maintenance required. Unlike traditional houses, condominiums absolve residents from tasks such as yard maintenance, exterior repairs, and snow removal, which are managed by the condominium association. This allows retirees more freedom to engage in leisure activities, pursue interests, or travel without the burden of property upkeep. Such a maintenance-free lifestyle is especially appealing to those seeking to minimize physical strain and maximize enjoyment during their retirement years.
2. Community and Social Opportunities
Condominiums often foster a built-in community atmosphere, with numerous organized social activities that encourage resident interaction. This is particularly beneficial for retirees eager to maintain active social lives. Several condominium communities cater specifically to senior residents, providing amenities and clubs that promote social interaction and community building. This aspect of condominium living is crucial in mitigating feelings of isolation or loneliness that can accompany older age, ensuring a dynamic and supportive communal environment.
3. Enhanced Security Features
Security is a critical concern for retirees, and condominiums typically offer superior security measures compared to individual homes. Features such as secured entry points, surveillance systems, and sometimes around-the-clock security personnel are common in condominium settings. Additionally, the proximity to neighbors in a condominium complex provides an extra layer of security, as residents can look out for one another, creating a safer living environment. This heightened security provides peace of mind to both the retirees and their families, knowing that safety measures are robustly in place.
4. Accessibility and Strategic Location
Accessibility is another significant advantage of condominium living for retirees. Many Toronto Condos for Sale are designed with features like elevators, ramps, and low thresholds to accommodate residents with mobility challenges. The layout of a condo unit, typically more compact, reduces the need to navigate extensive spaces, which is beneficial for those with limited mobility. Furthermore, condominiums are often strategically situated near essential amenities, including grocery stores, healthcare facilities, and public transport routes, enhancing convenience and fostering independence among retirees.
5. Financial Advantages
Financial considerations are crucial for retirees, who often focus on maximizing their retirement savings. Condominiums represent a cost-effective housing option due to their generally lower pricing compared to detached homes. Additionally, the consolidation of various expenses into condo fees, such as utilities, maintenance costs, and sometimes communications services, simplifies financial planning by providing a predictable monthly expenditure. For retirees seeking a financially sustainable living option, condominiums offer both affordability and budgetary predictability.
Conclusion
Retirement is a stage of life meant for relaxation and enjoyment, and choosing the right housing is integral to maximizing this period. Toronto Condos for Sale provide retirees with an optimal mix of practicality, comfort, and communal support, enhancing their overall quality of life. The advantages of condominium living—ranging from the maintenance-free lifestyle to the financial benefits—make it an ideal choice for retirees. As the real estate market continues to evolve, the appeal of condominiums for retirees remains clear, positioning them as a top choice for those seeking a vibrant, secure, and fulfilling retirement.

Health Canada approves Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine
Health Canada has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in this country.
It’s a critical moment in Canada’s fight against the novel coronavirus, as it is the first vaccine to receive the green light.
The federal health agency has deemed the vaccine effective and safe for use on Canadians, which means that the team responsible for the rollout of vaccines can now begin the process of administering them.
“Health Canada has determined that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine meets the Department's stringent safety, efficacy and quality requirements for use in Canada,” said Health Canada in a statement, alongside a series of documents related to the decision, with the promise of more information about the clinical trial in the weeks ahead.
In an interview with CTV National News Medical Correspondent Avis Favaro, Pfizer Canada’s Vaccines Medical Lead Dr. Jelena Vojicic said she is “very pleased” with Health Canada’s decision.
“This is certainly a historic moment for science, and for Canadians. And this is a result of a tremendous effort, starting with the international scientific community, and then going over the dedicated work of Pfizer and BioNTech employees, the clinical trial sites, the participants in the clinical trials, the volunteers,” Vojicic said.
Newsletter sign-up: Get The COVID-19 Brief sent to your inbox
“And of course, I need to acknowledge the tremendous work by Health Canada in quickly reviewing our file while maintaining really gold standards of review and keeping a vigilant eye on the data.”
The initial doses of the Pfizer vaccine are expected to arrive in Canada next week, and plans are already in place to have the shots ready to be administered at 14 delivery sites in major cities across Canada, within one or two days of shipments arriving.
SHIPPING DOSES 'IMMINENTLY'
Vojicic said that Pfizer is prepared to ship to Canada and she is expecting that shipment will happen “imminently.” She anticipates most vaccines destined for Canada will be coming out of Belgium.
By the end of December, Canada is set to receive up to 249,000 doses of this vaccine, or enough to vaccinate 124,500 people, given it requires two shots a few weeks apart. In total, the federal government has purchased 20 million doses of the vaccine, and has option to buy 56 million more.
From there, Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin, the top military general leading the rollout from the Public Health Agency of Canada, is expecting a “constant flow” of doses to arrive -- up to four million by the end of March 2021.
Prioritized groups will be the first to receive the vaccine, given the limited quantities to begin with. Among the earliest to receive these shots will be staff and residents in long-term care and other congregate senior living facilities and health-care workers with high exposure risks. Each province is able to modify the national recommendations for prioritization based on their regional situation. For example, Ontario has opted to use the first small batch in Toronto and Peel region, where the most severe lockdowns are in place due to weeks of surging case counts.
For now, the vaccine is being recommended for use in people 16 years of age or older, and further clinical trials are being run on children of all age groups, so it’s possible the Health Canada approval could be revised in the future to include children, if the data from these studies support it.
Because the vaccine needs to be stored at temperatures below -70 C, Pfizer will be delivering batches in special thermal shipping boxes it developed that can keep the vaccine stable for days. Before being injected, the vaccine is thawed, decanted, and mixed, but can only last a few hours at room temperature, so Pfizer is requesting the first doses be given on-site at these 14 facilities where there are ultra-cold freezers in place, to avoid as much wastage as possible from transporting the vials elsewhere.
CANADA SECOND IN WORLD
Canada is the second country in the world to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
The United Kingdom was first, and began vaccinating its citizens with this vaccine on Tuesday, but the U.K.'s Medical and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency is now warning that people who have a history of serious allergic reactions should not receive the vaccine as they investigate two instances of adverse reactions that occurred in health workers when they received the vaccine.
The United States Food and Drug Administration is set to give the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine the green light to roll out to Americans this week.
Typically, the vaccine submission review process can usually take up to a year, but because of an emergency order, Health Canada has been able to expedite the authorization process. The agency began its regulatory review of the Pfizer vaccine in October, and has since been assessing rolling information as it comes in from the pharmaceutical company’s studies, rather than having to wait until the end of its work to begin reviewing the findings.
“Canadians can feel confident that the review process was rigorous and that we have strong monitoring systems in place. Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada will closely monitor the safety of the vaccine once it is on the market and will not hesitate to take action if any safety concerns are identified,” said Health Canada on Tuesday. The pharmaceutical giant will also have to routinely provide additional quality, efficacy, and safety information.
Pfizer was one of four vaccine candidates Health Canada has been evaluating, with assessment ongoing for the Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. In total, Canada has signed contracts guaranteeing access to 194 million doses of potential COVID-19 vaccines with the option to purchase 220 million more, meaning if all trials pan out, we’d have access to 414 million doses.
COVID-19 vaccines will be offered to Canadians free of charge, will not be mandatory, and will eventually be available to all who want to be vaccinated. The government has said its target is to vaccinate the majority of Canadians by September, 2021.

Tips On Making Your Parent’s Move Stress Free
Tumblr media
As your parents grow older, you may see them begin to struggle with their living routine. Possibly they have started to miss bill payments or have fallen and broken a hip. They may need augmented care after developing dementia or Alzheimer’s. One day, you will need to move your parents into a safer living atmosphere.
Where will they live? In the beginning, you may think about your home. However, this choice is a major life preference and deserves a little serious conversation from you, them, and the rest of your family. The following are a few simple things you can do to make the moving process of your parents effortless:
Coming to the same conclusion
Your parents may feel emotionally attached to their home. Look forward to uneasiness when you first bring up moving. They will need time to think about and accept the idea. A lot of times seniors feel that moving means losing control of their lives. To help them transition, make clear that their opinion matters and that they have a say in where they live. Providing them with time to come to the same conclusion as you will help them to feel more confident and less distressed!
Have a word with your parents at a family meeting with their loved ones. This will provide every person with a chance to share his or her opinions and views. Active communication in the family will even build an improved support system for your parents.
Deciding on living arrangements
During this conversation, talk about the level of care your parents will need in their new home. They may have need for continuous care and support with everyday living activities. The majority of the time, care for seniors turns out to be more challenging in the fullness of time. They can provide valuable suggestions and insight on necessary care and living arrangements.
The housing situation you decide for your Local Movers Toronto will be based on required care, available facilities, location, and finances.
Create a list of pros and cons for each housing choice in your neighbourhood. Include the proximity to relatives as this may cause worry amongst siblings. Often, family members who live closer have more opportunities to get mixed up with the care of parents. It is necessary to create an open dialogue with your family and come to an agreement on living conditions.
Comprehend that your parents have the ultimate say at the time of the decision-making. After all, at the end of the day, the living preparations will have an effect on them the most.
Prior to you all deciding on a living arrangement, visit the facility. This will help your parents get a feel for the environment, which may play a role in their direction. Take notes on the ways the staff interacts with residents, what activities they offer, and transportation preparations. You can even research online reviews from past guests.
Sorting stuff
The majority of seniors have lived in their homes for a lot of years, which signifies they have a lot of stuff to sort through. Prior to you begin to pack, go through the home of your parents and put their belongings in order. Organize stuff into piles you are keeping, donating, throwing away, and preserving as keepsakes.
Take into account the emotional condition of your parents as you go through their belongings. Allow them time to make a decision on which pile to put their stuff in and reminisce as you arrange. Their belongings are more than objects - they are memories.
As you put everything in order, picture where belongings will go in their new house. How much space do they have? Where will the furniture go? Create a model of the home on paper to help you think about what their new living plan will look like.
Hiring a moving company
Booking a specialized moving company will help ease the stress on you and your parents. In fact, your parents may feel more comfortable talking with a subjective 3rd party rather than having a word with their children. Moving service providers that have the expertise in moving seniors will offer comfort to the family. They even take on the burden of lifting heavy stuff and, at the end of the day, make the process smoother for every person.
You may want to mull over having them pack stuff. They have the tools and knowledge to make sure valuables stay unbroken or unharmed. This allows you to concentrate on your parents as they move to their new home.
Cleaning
Even if you appoint a moving service provider, you will still need to clean the home. No matter you plan to rent, sell, or pass the home to a family member, have the entire family come and help. In addition, repair any damages now to keep away from the problems getting worse. These repairs will avert renters or new owners from claiming fake damages.
Settling in
Your parents may need days, weeks, or months to change with the new living plan. Check in with them often to ensure that they feel safe and comfortable. Every person reacts to moving in a different way. A few feel relief from not having to take of their home. Others feel hesitant to make friends. The majority will feel a little loss from the life change. Provide your parents with plenty of family support during this stage. Who knows, they may end up speaking, “I would have done this a long time ago?”
Take the moving process slowly to make sure that you and your parents have a smooth transition.
If you are worried about making your parent’s move stress free, you can always count on an expert mover - Tippet Richardson. Since 1927, we have been helping people of every age group to relocate with ease. Contact us today at 1(800) 718-7664!

Georgian Bluffs continues push to permit airport development
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Georgian Bluffs is continuing on with an attempt to have Wiarton’s urban boundary extended to include a portion of the Wiarton-Keppel International Airport in order to open it up for more potential development.
And at the same time council plans to work towards developing plans about what type of development could be realized at the facility in the future.
On Wednesday, council approved a motion to request that the municipality’s 2015 application to have the Niagara Escarpment Plan amended to allow for Wiarton’s urban boundary to be extended to include the airport, pending the completion of additional studies.
“It is something that has been going on for years, even when it was owned by Georgian Bluffs and South Bruce Peninsula together,” Mayor Dwight Burley said. “I think it is an excellent idea to have the NEC control taken off the airport because it is going to give the municipality a better opportunity to do what we would like to do within the airport boundaries.”
Council received a report from their senior planner Jenn Burnett asking for direction on how they would like to proceed with the application to the NEC. In March, the township received a letter from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry asking to be advised on whether or not Georgian Bluffs wanted to proceed with the amendment application.
Burnett explained that the reason for the application is so that development control is removed and township zoning would then be allowed in the area of the airport property that currently falls within the NEC. This includes the area of the approximately 820-acre property where the terminal building and hangars are located.
Burley said he agrees that controls on development still need to be in place, and a proper business plan for the airport would direct uses for the property and subsequent controls.
“With the way it is right now with the NEC, part of their control is that it has to be airport-related,” Burley said. “We, for instance, could have a factory wanting to come in that could employ a lot of people and not really be airport-related. We need to have better control of what could be done with the property.”
He said he agrees with the NEC that controls on development still need to be in place, adding that any development at the property still needs approval by Transport Canada.
According to Burnett’s report, the urban boundary application was put on hold pending the creation of a strategic plan for the airport and confirmation of sewers being extended to the area from Wiarton.
There are currently no plans or agreements to extend sewers from Wiarton, which is in South Bruce Peninsula, to the airport. In 2017, council did approve a five-year strategic plan for the airport, but it wasn’t adopted by bylaw and no corresponding business plan was created, Burnett said.
“Generally when land is moved into an urban designation is because there are plans and policies in place that will correspond with the Niagara Escarpment Plan,” said Burnett.
“Right now we have a strategic plan for the airport. We don’t have a business plan. What we need to demonstrate is we have a plan in place moving forward for that property to develop appropriately. We need to justify the expansion of that settlement boundary.”
Burley said he is hopeful that council will allow for the municipality to develop a proper business plan to support the application to the NEC.
“We have several business plans, but not something that you would call really up to speed to be able to move the facility forward,” he said.
Georgian Bluffs has been the sole owner of the airport since it paid South Bruce Peninsula $600,000 for its 50 per cent stake in the facility back in 2015.
Since then, the municipality has been looking at ways to create revenue at the facility and make it more feasible, including by attracting businesses and development. A restaurant now operates there, while hangars have been built and leased out. Space in the terminal building has also been leased to local businesses.
Municipal officials have also expressed their desire for additional support from across Grey-Bruce for the airport, and have said all along they can’t run it alone. They are attempting to work with the upper tier levels of municipal government to create a regional facility for Grey-Bruce, but that has been moving too slow for some members of council, who are growing tired of losing money at the facility. In 2019, the airport was over $500,000 in the red.
Back in March, the town had planned to hold a meeting to discuss their options for the facility going forward, and to get feedback and input from local stakeholders, but that meeting had to be called off as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. A makeup date has not yet been set.
Burley said that their new Chief Administrative Officer John Norton is set to start in early August and after he reviews the file, he is hopeful they will begin making progress again.
“The hope was to get everyone together to have a meeting of the minds face-to-face and when COVID commenced it stopped,” said Burley. “The whole idea is to have that meeting when we can to come out with a clear-cut direction on how we proceed to make this asset work for Grey and Bruce counties together.”
Burley said he is a firm believer that the airport needs to be a regional facility and that is the only way it can work. “We do need a certified airport in our counties and it is there, so we need to all work together to see how we can make it work,” said Burley. “A lower tier municipality like Georgian Bluffs can’t foot the bill for an airport of that size. It doesn’t make sense.”

227's™ TRAGEDY ALERT! 10 Dead! Spicy' Santa Fe Chili' Texas High School Shooting! News #Nike'Spicy'Tunes Spicy' NBA Mix! (Houston Chronicle) 'Multiple fatalities' reported at Spicy' Santa Fe Chili' High School Spicy' shooting
SANTA FE, Texas – At least 10 people died Friday morning in gunfire at Santa Fe High school, law enforcement officials confirmed, while at least 12 others were injured, according to area hospitals. Law enforcement officers are responding to Santa Fe High School following a shooting incident in this Harris County Sheriff office, Santa Fe, Texas, U.S., photo released on May 18, 2018. Police arrested a suspect and detained a second person, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said via Twitter. The bloodshed 30 miles south of Houston is the worst mass shooting in America since February, when 17 people were gunned down at a high school in Parkland, Florida, according to a database of shootings maintained by the Washington Post. UPDATE 11:17 a.m.: At least 10 people have died, Gonzalez said. 11:10 a.m.: A senior law enforcement official said nine people have died. The shooter is a student who was armed with an AR-15 style assault rifle, a shotgun and a pistol, said the official, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. "Evidently this guy threw pipe bombs all in there," the official said. "We don't know if any of them went off. The source said the death toll, which includes students and staff, is expected to rise. He also identified the injured police officer as John Barnes, a former Houston police officer who was retired and working with the school's police department. He was shot in the shoulder and is not critically wounded, the source said. 11:04 a.m.: Sheriff Gonzalez told reporters the number of dead could rise as high as 10. The suspect is believed to be a student, he said, and most of the dead are students. It is still a "very active" scene at the school, with a bomb squad and police checking to make sure the area is secure, he said. 11 a.m.: Gyl Switzer, executive director of Texas Gun Sense, issued a statement: "Our hearts go out to those affected by today's shooting at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe Texas. We Texans love our children. We must do a better job of protecting them. There are proven strategies to reduce senseless gun violence. Today, Texas Gun Sense re-doubles our commitment to stop the killing. Work with us." Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton earlier issued a statement offering thoughts and prayers. 10:53 a.m.: Yesterday, David Hogg, a student from the Parkland high school that reginited a national conversation on gun control, had a chilling premonition. He said gun violence kept him up at night. "There is someone alive right now that will not be alive at this time tomorrow and has never even thought about gun violence, but everyone around them will have to for the rest of their lives," he told reporters at an engagement in Los Angeles. 10:47 a.m.: Tenth grader Dakota Shrader said he heard alarms go off and students exited to a grassy area, waiting for an all-clear as in a normal fire drill. Then he heard three gunshots and screams of "Run! Run!" Shrader ran as fast as he could to a wooded area, started having an asthma attack and called his mother. "The world, I just don't like what it's becoming," Shrader said. "Every school shooting, kids getting killed, innocent kids getting killed. No family should have to suffer that just because somebody wants to be selfish and go out and hurt other people. It's just not right at all." 10:45 a.m.: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a statement: "The thoughts and prayers of all Texans are with the people of Santa Fe and those affected by today's tragic shooting. As horrific reports come out of Santa Fe High School, my office stands ready to assist local law enforcement as needed." 10:40 a.m.: Trey Lemley, 17, said he was in the school's first floor art room when a shooter walked in, his sister, Courtney Lemley, 19, said. Trey dropped his phone and barricaded himself inside one of the room's two closets, she said. When he left, he saw three bodies and pools of blood. Courtney and her boyfriend, 19-year-old Austin Evans, graduated from the school last year. They said the art room is located near a main, back exit of the school, and the room itself has an exit that leads to the parking lot. After being turned away from the school, Courtney and Evans walked to Arcadian First Baptist Church, where Courtney's mother works. In the parking lot, National Guardsmen gathered supplies before driving towards the school in a military vehicle. Small groups began to gather in the church's parking lot, staring at their cell phones and sharing details they heard from friends and from news outlets 10:35 a.m.: The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston has received three patients, the hospital reported on social media. Two are adults and one is under 18. Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster received seven injured students, a spokeswoman for that facility said. Previous reports that an injured officer was taken there are wrong, she said. Two other injured students were taken to Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, she said. The conditions of all of the injured are unknown. EARLIER: An unidentified law enforcement officer was shot, but sources said he was "clipped" and was not seriously injured. One source said the gunman was a male, but could provide no further information. The shooter has been "arrested and secured," said Santa Fe HS Assistant Principal Dr. Cris Richardson. Several other students as well as an officer was injured in the shooting. Joe Gamaldi with the Houston Police Officers Union tweeted, "Please keep the officers in your prayers as one officer is being life flighted to the hospital." Students described the gunfire, which broke out about 7:30 a.m. Junior Liberty Wheeler, 14, was in class when she heard five shots ring out near the art room. Her teacher told them to run toward the theater department's storage room, where they hid for 45 minutes before being escorted outside by the SWAT team. "You could smell the gunpowder that came from the gun," Wheeler recalled as she was escorted out of the building. "We were all scared because it was near us." Paige Curry, a junior at the school, said "I was sitting in my classroom and I heard very loud booms and I didn't know what they were. I was confused but after I heard screaming, I figured out what they were, got up immediately and started to run. I almost ran out of the school but I hid instead with the other students. I was there for maybe 30 minutes I was on the phone with my mom the whole time. They found us and escorted us." "There were a lot of people, a lot of different suits so I wasn't really sure but I think they were SWAT." "I was very, very scared but I managed to keep calm, especially with my mom on the phone." "I heard people were hurt and the gunshots were from a classroom maybe three doors down. I heard five [shots] maybe. It was one boom, then another boom very loud. It wasn't rapid." The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston is treating two patients, their conditions not yet being disclosed, said spokesman Raul Reyes. He said more patients are expected, including one currently being transported from the branch's League City hospital. He said a helicopter with at least one patient is on the way and more ambulances are expected. Officers in tactical gear were deployed into the school. Outside, groups of students evacuated from the building are being patted down by authorities. Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff's Office were sent to assist Galveston County officers on the scene, according to a tweet by HCSO Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. The ATF also confirmed it responded to the scene. Richardson said he could not confirm whether there was more than one shooter. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/multiple-fatalities-reported-at-santa-fe-high-school-shooting/ar-AAxtvuC

The Next Wave in Covid Coping Stocks (LAKE, APT, ALST, MMM)
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world as we know it. The result of this transition, for investors, is a new playing field that rewards the nimble and those able to think thematically.  One of the most interesting and important themes as the virus rages on is centered on the resources we need to cope until we have a viable vaccine able to be widely distributed around the world With that in mind, we take a look at some of the more interesting stocks aligned with this theme, including: Lakeland Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:LAKE), Alpha Pro Tech, Ltd. (NYSEAMERICAN:APT), Allstar Health Brands Inc (OTCMKTS:ALST), and 3M Co (NYSE:MMM) Lakeland Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:LAKE) bills itself as a company that manufactures and sells industrial protective clothing and accessories for the industrial and public protective clothing market worldwide.  It offers limited use/disposable protective clothing, such as coveralls, laboratory coats, shirts, pants, hoods, aprons, sleeves, arm guards, caps, and smocks; high-end chemical protective suits to provide protection from highly concentrated, toxic and/or lethal chemicals, and biological toxins; and firefighting and heat protective apparel to protect against fire, burns, and excessive heat.  Lakeland Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:LAKE) just announced that it has established a new credit facility with Bank of America. The new facility consists of a senior secured $12.5 million revolving credit facility, which includes a $5 million letter of credit sub-facility and an option to convert up to $5 million of the revolving credit facility into a term loan facility.  According to the release, the facility also includes an accordion feature under which the Company may request from time to time an increase in the revolving commitment of up to $5 million (for a total commitment of up to $17.5 million). The facility will mature on June 25, 2025. Terms of the new facility are more completely discussed in the Company's Form 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It will be interesting to see if the stock can break out of its recent sideways action. Over the past week, the stock is net flat, and looking for something new to spark things. Shares of the stock have powered higher over the past month, rallying roughly 5% in that time on strong overall action.  Lakeland Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:LAKE) generated sales of $45.6M, according to information released in the company's most recent quarterly financial report. That adds up to a sequential quarter-over-quarter growth rate of 61.7% on the top line. In addition, the company has a strong balance sheet, with cash levels far exceeding current liabilities ($23.5M against $12.9M). Alpha Pro Tech, Ltd. (NYSEAMERICAN:APT) engages in developing, manufacturing, and marketing a line of disposable protective apparel, building supply products, and infection control products in the United States and internationally. The big idea powering the stock lately is its products of masks capable of helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  The company operates through three segments: Building Supply, Disposable Protective Apparel, and Infection Control. The company distributes its products through a network of purchasing groups, distributors, and independent sales representatives, as well as through its sales and marketing force.  Alpha Pro Tech, Ltd. (NYSEAMERICAN:APT) that the Company is set to join the broad-market Russell 3000® and Russell 2000® Indexes at the conclusion of the 2020 Russell indexes annual reconstitution, effective after the US equity market opens on June 29, 2020, according to a preliminary list of additions posted on June 5, 2020. The Company is currently included in the Russell Microcap® Index. According to the release, the 2020 reconstitution of the Russell indexes captures the 4,000 largest US stocks as of May 8, 2020, ranking them by total market capitalization. Membership in the US all-cap Russell 3000® Index, which remains in place for one year, means automatic inclusion in the small-cap Russell 2000® Index, as well as the appropriate growth and value style indexes. FTSE Russell determines membership for its Russell indexes primarily by objective, market-capitalization rankings and style attributes. And the stock has been acting well over recent days, up something like 20% in that time. Alpha Pro Tech, Ltd. (NYSEAMERICAN:APT) generated sales of $18.2M, according to information released in the company's most recent quarterly financial report. That adds up to a sequential quarter-over-quarter growth rate of 66.2% on the top line. In addition, the company has a strong balance sheet, with cash levels far exceeding current liabilities ($17.6M against $10.5M). Allstar Health Brands Inc (OTCMKTS:ALST) trumpets itself as a specialty Health Care Products Company dedicated to improving health and quality of life by offering select products, including medical devices, nutritional supplements, over the counter remedies and medicines across the Americas and Europe. AllStar's goal is to bring additional products to the market and provide new, innovative options for better health and well-being. In addition, according to recent materials, the company has begun to focus sharply on front-line products. AllStar is now working with qualified overseas suppliers to provide products such as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as demand is expected to increase sharply with the gradual re-opening of the economy. Allstar Health Brands Inc (OTCMKTS:ALST) also just recently announced an order for Covid-19 Rapid Antibody tests for sales in Florida. The demand for these types of test kits which can deliver results in minutes may help with managing the recent uptick of new infections in Florida and other states as well. Dr. Daniel Bagi, President of AllStar stated," The recent uptick in new coronavirus cases in many states, and especially in Florida is a troubling statistic. We are working with local distributors to offer clinics and hospitals more access to these rapid antibody tests. As the acceptance of these types of tests take hold, we expect an increase in the volume and frequency of these orders. AllStar has already begun distributing protective masks and is expanding its product line to include gowns and gloves to established businesses and various types of medical clinics such as optometrists, long-term care facilities and hospitals. As such, first-order deliveries of the Covid-19 IgG/IgM antibody rapid test have already been made to a Distributor for the Caribbean and Latin American region, and US delivery is in process. In addition, KN 95 protective masks, - the functional equivalent of the N 95 mask - have been sold already in Canada and AllStar is also working to deliver the much-needed masks to other countries. Allstar Health Brands, Inc. was formerly known as Axxess Pharma, Inc. and changed its name to Allstar Health Brands, Inc. in June 2017. The company was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Allstar Health Brands Inc (OTCMKTS:ALST) has limited cash on the books against some more significant obligations. ALST is pulling in trailing 12-month revenues. While this is the more speculative name in this group, the company’s engagement in the PPE space as virus numbers swell could shift this picture dramatically in future filings. 3M Co (NYSE:MMM) bills itself as a company that develops, manufactures, and markets various products worldwide. It operates through four business segments: Safety & Industrial, Transportation & Electronics, Health Care, and Consumer.  The Safety & Industrial segment offers personal safety products, adhesives and tapes, abrasives, closure and masking systems, electrical markets, automotive aftermarket, and roofing granules.  The Health Care segment offers medical solutions, oral care, separation and purification sciences, health information systems, drug delivery systems, and food safety products.  3M Co (NYSE:MMM) announced that it has created resources to fight fraud, filed 18 lawsuits and removed thousands of deceptive websites and social media posts to stop pandemic profiteers. According to a recent release, 3M is sharing results of the global efforts the company launched in March to combat fraud connected to the COVID-19 pandemic. 3M has worked with law enforcement authorities and partnered with ecommerce and technology companies to help protect the public against those exploiting the demand for critical 3M products. It will be interesting to see if the stock can break out of its recent sideways action. Over the past week, the stock is net flat, and looking for something new to spark things. 3M Co (NYSE:MMM) managed to rope in revenues totaling $8.1B in overall sales during the company's most recently reported quarterly financial data -- a figure that represents a rate of top line growth of 2.7%, as compared to year-ago data in comparable terms. In addition, the company is battling some balance sheet hurdles, with cash levels struggling to keep up with current liabilities ($4.5B against $9.1B, respectively). Read the full article

Celebrating collaborative economic growth in Clarington
  Ontario Construction Report special feature
The most eastern lakeshore community located in the Greater Toronto Area has reason to celebrate. The Municipality of Clarington (Courtice, Bowmanville, Newcastle, Orono) is reaping the benefits of the opportunities created by large billion-dollar infrastructure projects as well as experiencing the outcomes of collaboration and unconditional business support, creating an environment where businesses can thrive.
Several of Canada’s largest infrastructure projects in Clarington help lay the foundation for attracting investment.  Highway 407 east extension from Oshawa to the 35/115 Highway opened in December 2019, facilitating congestion-free access to markets. Creating up to 14,200 jobs at the project’s peak, Ontario Power Generation’s Darlington Nuclear Refurbishment project is on track to be complete by 2026, allowing the plant to continue to deliver clean, reliable energy to Ontarians for another 30 years.
On February 20, 2020, The Metrolinx board of directors endorsed Option 2 for the GO East Rail Extension through Oshawa to Bowmanville along the Canadian Pacific mainline north of Highway 401. This investment will transform the landscape of the community creating approximately 21,000 jobs and create development opportunities complimenting this investment for decades to come. The Province is also investing in the redevelopment of the Bowmanville Hospital. An anticipated $300 Million dollar project, the Ontario government may soon be issuing an invitation for interested companies to submit their qualifications for the work.
Highway 401 Eastbound in Clarington to Highway 407 via 418 link.
Combined with the price of industrial land, optimal transportation networks, proximity to major markets, infrastructure and community development and access to workforce, the advantages for business to locate and expand in Clarington are adding up. The advantage that tips the scales is Clarington’s collaborative approach to business development. The unique business approach taken by the Clarington Board of Trade and Office of Economic Development (CBOT) to meet the needs of business, set them apart in a very competitive marketplace. By working closely with business, stakeholders in the real estate &development community, and all levels of government, helps to create a business-friendly environment which draws business investment. The team at CBOT is driven by purpose, and passion for ensuring the easiest transition to making Clarington home for businesses and their employees.
Stephen Connell, senior vice-president, commercial sales and leasing for Cushman & Wakefield Toronto states, “I have been doing industrial commercial business for 40 years and dealing with municipalities all over southern Ontario. The Clarington Board of Trade & Office of Economic Development ranks in my top three for service provided. The team responds within hours which in my business saves me time at my end also. The accuracy of the information provided by their office both technical, general and full product knowledge is also tremendous as is their ability to put me through to the right people in every department (engineering, zoning, planning etc.)”
Making reference to the decision Toyota Canada made commit to investing in their new Eastern Canada Parts Distribution Centre in Clarington, director of general affairs for Toyota Canada, Warren Orton states, “They (CBOT) have been extremely helpful in guiding us through the building development process. In addition, when we needed help sourcing local talent, they assisted by directing us to local agencies as well as directing people seeking employment opportunities to our human resources team. We have several Toyota associates relocating to this new facility and they have been especially appreciative of the Clarington information package that was assembled by the Board of Trade staff and distributed to them. Overall, I cannot imagine a better welcome or support than what we’ve received from Clarington.”
Sign is up! Indication of the upcoming opening of the Toyota Eastern Canada Parts Distribution Centre.
Between 2019 and 2024, over 1.2 million sq. ft. of industrial and commercial space for various users will be constructed in Clarington. Projects include the Toyota Eastern Canada Parts Distribution centre which is expected to be operational by May 2020. Meeting the need to expand in Clarington, construction of a new Hyundai dealership is slated to be complete by fall 2020. Site plan is well underway for a distribution centre head office for East Penn Canada, leading the market in battery distribution and recovery for several industries. Accompanying the top industries of agriculture and energy, the cannabis sector is quickly evolving to be a major pillar of Clarington’s economy.
Cannapiece will be one of several licenced medical cannabis producers in the community, building over half a million square foot micro-cultivation facility. By 2024 Ontario Power Generation is anticipated to have completed construction of a new corporate campus, consolidating its operations from 15 existing locations across the Greater Toronto Area and Niagara Region. The above-mentioned investments plus many other anticipated developments, represent the creation of over 4,000 jobs.
Construction of the 35,000 sq. ft. Clarington Hyundai Dealership.
Clarington is a community that is proudly defined by business diversity, opportunity and collaborative economic achievements. With a population recently exceeding 100,000, growth is expected to increase by more than 45% by the year 2031. As one of the fastest growing municipalities in the Region of Durham and home to over 6,400 businesses and counting, Clarington is looking forward to welcoming your business to be part of their growth.

Athletes at the Forefront of the COVID-19 Response
International Olympic Committee news
At a time when populations are being asked to stay at home to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, athletes are not only setting examples on how to #StayActive / #StayStrong / #BeActive / #HealthyAtHome and leverage physical activity to face this unprecedented situation, as celebrated yesterday on the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, but many of them are also working actively in healthcare facilities.
Some have successfully combined medical studies or nursing with their sporting careers, or have switched to health work after retirement. Others have shown their gratitude to all the health workers who are toiling untiringly every day to save lives. This is the case of athletes from the Italian Olympic Team, who came together in the video below to show their support and say an enormous thanks, or “grazie”, to all the medical staff fighting the pandemic.
In honour of World Health Day 2020, the IOC joins in thanking all the healthcare workers on the front lines of the pandemic and highlights some stories from athletes who are among them.
PAULA PARETO
Argentina's reigning Olympic -48kg judo champion Paula Pareto is one of those who have joined the effort to fight COVID-19.
After spending two weeks in self-isolation following the Yekaterinburg Grand Slam, Pareto returned to the San Isidro Hospital just north of Buenos Aires, where she works as an orthopaedic doctor.
She quoted Winston Churchill in her first post when back at work, saying: “We are the masters of our fate. The task which has been set us is not above our strength; its pangs and toils are not beyond our endurance. As long as we have faith in our cause and an unconquerable willpower, victory will be within our grasp.”
Referring to her own circumstances, she added, “Although orthopaedic doctors are not on the front line, we are a part of the health team facing this pandemic, and we will help where necessary.”
JOYCE SOMBROEK
Former Dutch hockey goalie Joyce Sombroek, a gold medallist at London 2012 and silver medallist at Rio 2016, is helping the effort in her homeland.[GL1]
One of the most successful goalkeepers in history, Sombroek was forced to retire after Rio due to recurring hip problems.
After that, she completed her medical studies at Amsterdam's Vrije Universiteit, and worked in departments including Accident and Emergency before beginning her training as a GP in March.
She recently commented on the current situation as follows to the FIH: “The most important thing is providing care to those who need it. I’m really happy that I can do my job, and I think that accounts for everyone working in healthcare or any other vital job.”
RACHAEL LYNCH
When she’s not stopping shots, Australia hockey goalie Rachael Lynch is a nurse in Perth.
She has worked in neuro-rehabilitation, helping patients who have suffered strokes or live with multiple sclerosis, throughout her 13-year international career.
But all efforts are now being channelled into dealing with COVID-19.
HAYLEY WICKENHEISER
Hayley Wickenheiser, IOC Member, IOC Athletes’ Commission member and four-time Olympic ice hockey gold medallist, retired from the sport in 2017 to go to medical school.
The 41-year-old combines her final year of studies at the University of Calgary with being the Toronto Maple Leafs' Assistant Director of Player Development and a member of the IOC Athletes' Commission.
Since January, Wickenheiser has been helping patients in hospital emergency rooms in and around Toronto.
JO BRIGDEN-JONES
Australian sprint kayaker Jo Brigden-Jones competed at London 2012 but narrowly missed out on Rio 2016.
After the disappointment of Rio, she started working full time in her “dream career” as a paramedic for New South Wales (NSW) Ambulances, and has since combined this with training and motivational speaking.
Following the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak, Brigden-Jones told the ABC Grandstand radio show that she had been instructed to leave Sydney for the Gold Coast, for intensive training ahead of Tokyo 2020.
But the postponement of the Games meant that move was shelved, and she has returned to work as a paramedic, where she is transporting people suffering from the coronavirus.
VICKY WRIGHT
Two-time Scottish curling champion Vicky Wright has returned to nursing having been due to compete in Canada at the World Curling Championships.
Wright, who now plays lead in Sochi 2014 bronze medallist Eve Muirhead's rink, flew out with the team to Prince George before the event was cancelled.
The 26-year-old switched to curling full time in July last year in order to focus on Beijing 2022, but she was able to continue working occasionally at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital near Falkirk.
She told British Curling, “Both the NHS and British Curling enabled me to do one shift a week throughout this season. It was something I really enjoyed and I didn’t want to lose my skills; and it was good to have something else other than just curling - it really kept me grounded.
KIM DAYBELL
Two-time Paralympian Kim Daybell is also assisting the British National Health Service in its time of need.
The 27-year-old was born with Poland's Syndrome, which means he has next-to-no chest muscles on one side of his body, but that has not stopped him pursuing his love of table tennis and medicine.
He completed his medicine degree at the University of Leeds in 2018, and has since worked part-time as a junior doctor at the Whittington Hospital in North London.
He was due to start training full-time for Tokyo 2020 last week, but the postponement of the Games meant a change of plan for Daybell.
He told British Para Table Tennis, “I was coming to the end of my F1 (foundation) year, and due to be finishing to train full-time, but they asked if I would come on a full-time rota, which I have started doing this week. I’m finishing surgery and will be a medical SHO (senior house officer) managing COVID patients.
“I want to try and help as best I can, and it is quite nice to be able to do that. One of the things that people seem to be struggling with is that feeling of powerlessness where they can’t do anything. I’m lucky to have the skill-set to help fight what is going on, and that is a positive that I’m taking.”
“Being a nurse has always given me a good perspective on life and kept my focus on what is important.”
SILVIA MESEGUER
Atletico Madrid vice-captain Silvia Meseguer has volunteered to help in the field hospital set up in the IFEMA exhibition complex in Spain's capital.
Meseguer quit international football last year to focus on her last year of medical school.
She told Atletico Madrid's official website, “Seeing the situation we are experiencing, I think anything we can contribute right now is important. I still don't have a medical degree because I have yet to finish my final project, but if they need help from students, of course I will.

AsBAA Appoints Jeff Chiang as Chief Operating Officer
Tumblr media
The Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) has appointed Jeff Chiang as Chief Operating Officer. Holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, Politics and History from the University of Toronto and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from City University of Hong Kong, Jeff was a solicitor in a Hong Kong law firm before his switch into business aviation. He remains a member of the Law Society of Hong Kong and currently holds a valid practicing certificate as well as a New Zealand Private Pilot’s License.
Tumblr media
Jeff started his business aviation career with Asia Jet’s aircraft charter team and soon after became involved with aircraft management sales. He held a leadership role at Asia Jet after its acquisition by Hongkong Jet in late 2016, and his latest role prior to joining AsBAA was as Senior Sales Manager for Hongkong Jet and Asia Jet, where he was responsible for aircraft management and aircraft charter sales. Zhendong Wu, Chairman of AsBAA said, “AsBAA has been working towards appointing a full-time leader for some years; having been largely run by volunteer board members since the year 2000. The position is vital to the stability, direction, and strength of the association and its ability to represent the industry in Asia. The decision to appoint Jeff Chiang is a strategic move; he holds the right professional skills and personal qualities to lead AsBAA to the next phase.” Based in AsBAA’s Hong Kong office, Jeff will be responsible for liaising with the association’s Board of Governors and will report to its Board of Directors.
