“No Amount Of Darkness Can Hide A Spark Of Light”

A request to Congress to appropriate funds to build a custom-house in the Washington Territories. Before Seattle was the main port for Washington, the Washington Territories requested money from Congress to build a customs house in the “…present port of entry, and the point of ingress and egress of the main commerce of the Territory,” which was Port Townsend, on the Olympic Peninsula. The Territory requested an appropriation of just $10,000 to build the structure!
