I found the podcast Stuff You Missed in History Class last week and it's awesome. I've downloaded a whole bunch, some about things I'm familiar with and others about things I'd never, ever heard of. I listened to them pretty much all day yesterday and was all jacked up on history.

Like did you know that Prof. Moriarty from the Sherlock Holmes story was based on a real person? Or the whole suuuuper scary story about H.H. Holmes killing people down the street from the the Chicago World's Fair, where Nikola Tesla was running alternating current through himself to prove it was safe?

As an Irish citizen, I can confidently say that you are closer in paradigm to most people who actually live in, you know, the country whose policy was effectively controlled by the Catholic church until the 1990s. Ireland is an overwhelmingly conservative nation. Fiscally socialist, yes, (and see how well that's working) but socially conservative. You don't need to share a paradigm to share blood with a people, but if you did, you do. ;D
