how would your favourite TG characters spend their Friday night?
(btw - well done on getting your work done. I haven't touched my coursework since Tuesday 😬)
(i was unnaturally motivated this week idk why 🧎 good luck with your coursework oomfie 🫶)
on a friday night, the quinx squad is having a family board game or movie night, courtesy of haise. this is a weekly routine for them, and haise has made a bunch of homemade snacks. juuzou and hanbee are frequent guests, and sometimes akira or arima make an appearance. akira only comes if they’re doing game night and gets really competitive about it. money wagers are no longer allowed because of her.
urie, however, is a rare participant in these events. he’s usually training at this time, or he’s quietly in his room painting. when he does get dragged in, he kicks everyone’s ass in monopoly.
saiko loves family night and she loves haise’s snacks, but the highlight for her is when she can retreat to her room and play video games until the sun comes up. she only takes a break to make 4am instant ramen.
pre-ghoulified takizawa likes going to get drinks with his co-workers on friday nights and decompress. not a fan of the club, he prefers going to a chill bar so he can have conversations. get him a little too drunk and he’ll start ranting about akira and juuzou.
post-ghoulified takizawa also hangs out near the bars, but he’s looking for food. drunk people are slow and h uncoordinated, so they’re easy to take down. he makes a game out of it to distract himself from reminiscing about the good times when he was human and could hang out with his buddies instead of living in the shadows.
kaneki likes to stay in and curl up with a book and a nice warm coffee. do not ask him to go out, he is clearly busy reading takatsuki sen’s latest work.
nishiki works his ass off all week so he can have fun on friday nights. he goes out with “the boys” from college almost every friday. he tells himself he’s just keeping his human image up by doing normal human things, but he kinda secretly has fun. if he doesn’t do this, he has a night in with kimi with (much to nishiki’s chagrin) takeout and a movie.
touka is a serious student, but if there’s one thing she can’t say no to, it’s yoriko, who shows up unannounced at her apartment with a rented film and a bag full of snacks. they have movie nights, which usually ends up as an accidental sleepover. touka pretends to be annoyed when yoriko shows up, but really, she looks forward to it every week.
post-time skip touka probably spends her friday nights working, either doing inventory or deep cleaning or crunching numbers at :re. since she’s cut ties with yoriko, kaneki has disappeared, and hinami has gone to aogiri, she feels very lonely. though she won’t admit that, yomo and nishiki know this, so they also spend their friday nights in :re after it closes. sometimes they do something bro-y like, play cards, sometimes they’re more serious and exchange information. touka appreciates the company.

so today i'm going to tell you the story of how i have obtained a pet mimic in our dnd campaign
it was a very chill session, only two players and the dm's npc character, and we kind of wanted to just do a dungeon crawl since things in the campaign were about to unfold
meet the cast:
the dm's npc character oliver, a water genasi oath of the ancients paladin with a few levels in rogue (that is actually just a pc that happens to belong to our dm because we love him very much). church boy. abandonment issues. dumbass energy
the other player's character beck, a water genasi path of wild magic barbarian with like a single level in a sorcerer. pure of heart, dumb of ass, hits things hard. mommy issues. dumbass energy.
my character dennis, a human (!) alchemist artificer that literally invented a way to cast magic even though he's physically incapable of casting. daddy issues. usually the braincell holder.
so the hook is to get the amulet of mcguffin. we're underwater, exploring a sunken ship, because i can cast water breathing and the other two are literally water people. so after an unsuccessful split up and a quick encounter with some ghosts - we're level 13 by now so the fear of accidentally dying in combat isn't as present - we go to another part of the ship and encounter a desk and a chest. i investigate the desk and beck goes to open the chest. at that moment, the dm calls for a saving throw from beck's player. i tweet out this.
Tumblr media
[picture id: me on twitter saying "things you don't want to hear during dnd: baby's first mimic"]
the player succeeds, managing to not stick to it, and we roll initiative. it is argued the other player gets a reaction so she goes first. i go next. since, once again, we're level 13, we're able to hit pretty hard by now, so when it's the mimic's turn, it disengages and tries to run away in its amorphous form. the dm describes it as skittering away along the wall with a squeal and trying to hide under the bed that's in the room. to be honest, i start to feel inexplicably bad but oliver is a little extra and casts moonbeam so there's that. bot dennis and i are left with doubt.
after an attempt to break though a wall to get to a staircase because we saw something through the window, going there normally since it's a few steps away after the braincell holder of 16 intelligence (dennis) points out it makes more noise than merit, casting a nervous, paranoia-induced detect magic that i sometimes forget i cast, and finding a few gizmos in a room the stairs lead to, we move to go to the next room and are promptly interrupted by the doorframe being a mimic. very quaint. quite classy. we kind of didn't expect the doorframe being a mimic but beck (who was going first because he's pure of heart dumb of ass) successfully hits it.
i would probably also hit it but the mimic revealing its form made the actual door fall and showed three ghosts, so i kinda focused on them. the mimic promptly attached itself to beck's face after being hit. very nice.
more combat ensues, another moonbeam is cast, and beck manages to tear the mimic off of himself (and then proceeds to attempt to tear it in half). it escapes along the wall, also.
we're a bit preoccupied with the two ghosts that are left, both of which attempt to possess me (😬👍) before we kill them. we're seconds away from another moonbeam cast so i quickly intercept and ask if i can try to... try to tame the mimic, dm?
i am allowed to roll for animal handling (it goes okay) and choose to do a skill challenge by healing it with the second level spell slot for the 100% success rate. i simultaneously tweet out this.
Tumblr media
[image id: my retweet saying "i have successfully tamed the mimic.", quoting my own tweet that says "i (the player) got attached to the mimic which is very funny because it's do very artificer which dennis (my pc) is"]
at that point, beck's player, roleplaying so hard she should get an oscar, shows a look of pure offense as i coax the mimic into a bottle, name it "onion" and start arguing it was only attacking back in self-defense. i am committed to the bit. i am fully in it, explaining that it's not right to just attack it when it was probably just scared.
out of character, we absolutely love this turn of events. in-character, beck is seething at the amorphous teeth blob but he won't do anything because he's actually too nice.
long story short, i have a pet mimic now, as well as the item "jar of onion".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(then 2/3 of us got charmed by an aboleth and oliver had to hit us to get us out of it)
