ok nvm i read a scathing review of blonde and the first problem before literally anything else is that it wasnt written or directed by a woman
#marilyn is not for the boys. she just isnt. and neither is her story#if u cant take a womans story and tell it authentically without objectifying her then stop telling the story#im not saying this to be a misadrist im saying this bc objectively#marilyn is marketed still to this day as a sex object#to men who arent interested in looking at the articles where her pictures sourced#shes still just a sex symbol. they dont know her from audrey really#and that mindset will definitely fuck up how you tell a story abt her#when you know her as an object instead of a woman who desperately wanted a baby and advocated for civil rights was a feminist socialist etc#and we all love her because shes gorgeous. that’s how we know her. but it makes her so much cooler to know her in truth#or in a story based in truth and respect#has there ever actually been a respectful biopic of her#sometimes i wish they would just let her rest easy#or at least honor her memory in ways more holistic to her person#there are so many gorgeous recountings from friends of her brilliance and splendor
