I love Mina’s 29th September entry because it gives us such a different view of Seward.
Up until this point, we’ve only really had his own account of the events he’s been in (aside from Lucy’s recollection of his unsuccessful proposal, where he was also very sweet, and strange, and awkward).
Seward likes to give the impression that he is very “together” and cooly logical, but close reading reveals that is not the case. Not only from Van Helsing constantly calling him out for being entirely to easy to read, but now from Mina, who renders a sweet account of a man who’s “soul [cries] out to Almighty God.” A man who is intelligent, and odd, but kind, and noble, and feels things so, so deeply.
