Indra Kumar directed Thank God stars Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh. It has been released in theaters today coinciding with Diwali. The 121-minute film is distributed by AA films and reportedly made with a budget of 100 crore. Aseem Bajaj has worked on its cinematography, while Rochak Kohli, Anand Raaj Anand, Tanishk Bagchi and Amar Mohile are its music directors.

Plot

Ajay Devgn plays the deity Chitragupta, while Malhotra as Ayaan Kapoor, comman man who hangs between life and death. Ayaan is a debt-ridden real estate agent who understands everything in his life goes wrong meets with an unfortunate accident, making him enter into ‘Yam Loka’, and later appears in front of the Chitragupta, who gives him a choice to play a game of life, where if he becomes victorious, he will be sent back to Earth, and if loses, then to hell as no other option.

It further continues with certain twists and turns. It’s inspired by a Norwegian film called ‘Sorte Kugler’.

Performance

Ajay’s brief appearance is good with poker face humour. Similarly, Sidharth is funny and pleases audiences with his witty dialogues. Rakul being a police officer acts decent with not much screen time. Nora Fatehi shines in dance number and rest of the cast is average.

Analysis

Its songs are well shot and couple of songs are chartbusters, especially the “Manike” song, with all the moves by Nora. Humor is well-placed in the right proportion. There are some whats app related forwards but more of its jokes make one laugh wholeheartedly. The direction is usual with no extra ordinary features but Indra Kumar keeps proceedings tight.

Verdict

The film’s climax contains over dramatic work which could have been avoided and could have been like in Dhamaal or Masti. It becomes enjoyable when it’s full of comedy without much of melodrama.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Suri opened up about the response to Malang, Ek Villain 2 and the much-awaited Aashiqui 3. Excerpts:

Q. With your last two films - Half Girlfriend and Humari Adhuri Kahaani - not doing too well at the box office, has the success of Malang been reassuring?

A. The major change I made is that I essentially went back to writing. That’s why I took a break for around a year and a half. Following Malang, I wrote Ek Villain 2. I am also working on something for Vishesh Films and for Rohit Shetty also. I felt that the last two subjects, even though I had worked on the screenplay and the script, were not essentially my stories.

It was the most obvious choice to make Ek Villain 2 or make a love story with Aditya and ride on the success of Aashiqui 2. But I decided to not play defensive. I wanted to do something unconventional and take Aditya for an action film, because I felt that he had the aptitude for it. I am working with Disha for the first time. It’s a film I did not do with Shraddha after very long, even though I have worked with her so much. I’m making a film with Kunal after 15 years. I worked with him in Kalyug and although he is now known only for comedies like Go Goa Gone and Golmaal, he has an intense and insane role in Malang. Someone like Anil Kapoor came in the end and added a certain amount of energy and authority to the film; he is also someone I have never worked with before. Even for Luv (Ranjan, producer of Malang), this was a very different kind of film - he usually makes rom-coms or romances.

Everything was unconventional about it, and then the kind of response that we got is definitely very encouraging. I got responses from people who have probably never watched my films before. In the kind of limitations we had, I think whenever you are confined, your creativity goes to break the barrier. It’s an adult film, it’s not held back, doesn’t fall into your conventional endings where the hero is beating up everybody. So, it’s a new animal which has been appreciated.

Q. Are there any plans to make a sequel?

A. Did you recognise whose voice was there in the last scene? There was an interesting scene in the end, we will come out with the twist of that later. It’s a little too early to talk about it now.

Q. Ek Villain 2 has an all-new cast - Aditya Roy Kapur and John Abraham. Is it a standalone sequel or will it take off from the events of Ek Villain?

A. It has references of the previous film but what Ekta (Kapoor, producer) and I tried to do is build a couple of badass villains who can play heroes. We wanted to create antiheroes or dark superheroes in a realistic space. I loved all the guys I worked with - Riteish, Sid and everyone - but there are references of their characters in this, so I couldn’t cast the same people. But it’s a standalone film by itself and we are looking to make other standalone films like this, almost like a dark superhero universe.

Q. Have you cast your leading ladies for Ek Villain 2 yet?

A. The boys are locked, but we are looking to cast the girls. In my films, the girls don’t come and dance around trees or feature in songs. They are really interesting roles, so I have to be able to cast the girls right.

Q. There has been talk that Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt will star in Aashiqui 3. What’s the update on the film?

A. I have been working on the script of that. With Aashiqui 3, I have to get the script and the music right before I start work on it. Sid is a friend and we do hang out, but no one has been confirmed for the film till now.

Q. A few years ago, you were writing a film for Karan Johar. What’s happening on that front?

A. I write films and pitch them to people, based on what they like and don’t like. Some people make it and some don’t. It’s not like every film I write, I make immediately. Sometimes, I come back to it. I had written Malang but I was not getting the right cast and timing to make it. My job as a filmmaker is to keep writing and making films. I don’t stop that process. When Karan approves the script that I have written, I will make the film with him.

Recently, Kunal also confirmed that he will soon be seen in Golmaal 5 and Go Goa Gone. Kunal Khemu is married to Soha Ali Khan. Kapal also has a daughter. Recently for Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu also wrote a sentimental post on Wedding Invasion. Kunal Khemu and Soha Ali Khan’s Love Marriage was Soha Ali Khan film. The actor is the sister of Saif Ali Khan. Both the siblings have deep love and both still take care of each other.

Now that I have both Amazon Prime and Netflix, I’m watching whatever I can with him in it and am impatiently waiting for A Gentleman to come to either service.

 What was the last book you read? Noggin by John Corey Whaley. It’s by a guy from Lousiana which is really close by and I loved how real the emotions felt and how into the main character I became. Bigg Boss all winners a very famous reality show which grew its fame and now is highest grosser in the television industry in India today. But since the start, do we all know who won the first three seasons?

Since Salman Khan has been hosting the show, the show has been new heights since ever. Season 14, however, is on hold due to Covid-19, let us recall all the winners of various seasons in ascending order from 1 to 13 and what they are up to now in the industry.

Season 1 – Rahul Roy

Rahul Roy got the famous in the 1990s with the very famous Movie and especially the songs of Aashiqui. He appeared in many movies later stages of Life. Later in 2006, came to and became the Bigg Boss all Winner and won the season. The season was originally hosted by Arshad Warsi. Rahul Roy has again tried out some work in the industry and got featured in TV serials.

Season 2 – Ashutosh Kaushik

Roadies Winner and later came to Bigg Boss all winner and won million hearts around the country. He was voted by the viewers to grab the title of Bigg Boss. He later got into Indian TV serials and shows like Saavdhan India. He has also taken part in Rahul Mahajan’s Swayamvar as the Best friend of the Groom.

Season 3 – Vindu Dara Singh

The son of Legendary Wrestler turned Actor Dara Singh who played Hanuman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan. Vindu Dara Singh was into Bollywood movies like Garv, Partner, Kambakht Ishq and many reputed movies before appearing in Bigg Boss. The show was hosted by megastar Amitabh Bacchan.

Season 4 – Shweta Tiwari

Salman Khan initiated the Bigg Boss all Winner in through this season. The winner of the show was Shweta Tiwari who was earlier a reputed TV actress. She was a lead actress in Kasauti Zindagi Ki. Shweta Tiwari kept bagging serials after Bigg Boss and worked in ”Mere Dad Ki Dulhan”.

Season 5 – Juhi Parmar

Juhi has had a good career since the early 2000s through serials like Kumkum. She came to Bigg Boss and won the season defeating Sunny Leone and Shakti Kapoor who were very favourites during the time. Juhi still bags roles on various TV serials. She also came in news at the end of 2018 as of issues with her husband and filed divorce. She is latest seen in Hamari wali Good News.

Season 6 – Urvashi Dholakia

Urvashi Dholakia was the season 6 Bigg Boss. She was famous for her role as “Komolika” antagonist role in Kasauti Zindagi Ki serial featured in the early 2000s. Urvashi managed to grab various roles on Indian Television post winning the show like Chandrakanta, Dil Se Di Dua, etc. date. She was latest seen as a contestant in Nach Balliye and Bigg Boss 13 as a guest.

Season 7 – Gauhar Khan

Giving a tough completion to Tanisha Mukherjee, Gauhar won the title of Bigg Boss Season 7. During the Bigg Boss journey, Gauhar was also famous for her forming couple with Kushal Tandon. Post the winning, Gauhar was featured in famous music album with Kushal named “Zaroori Tha”. She has worked in many movies before Bigg Boss and posts the show, like Naagin, Gathbandhan and Badrinath Ki Dulhania.

Season 8 – Gautam Gulati

Gautam Gulati was a fan famous during the show. He has done movies and many serials including a reality show Fear Factor. He has been a successful actor post-Bigg Boss too and got featured in movies like Azhar, Behen Hogi Teri and Radhe, Diya Aur Baati Hum and many such.

Season 9 – Prince Narula

Another Roadies Winner who proved his mettle in reality show such as Bigg Boss. He has won many hearts during the show led to his title. Now he is featured in many Regional Movies, TV shows and a Social Media Influencer.

Season 10 – Manveer Gurjar

Through Manveer, Bigg Boss set status as a commoner can also be part of Bigg Boss and win it. He had tough competition from Ex-Roadie host Bani J. Since then, Manveer was not very active on Television today.

Season 11 – Shilpa Shinde

The Bhabhi Ji Ghar pe Hain fame, Shilpa Shinde grabbed the Bigg Boss 11 title. She was loved by the majority and but since then, Hina Khan who was a tough competition for Shilpa in the show has made into the limelight.

Season 12 – Dipika Kakkar

Dipika is a well-known actress for the role in Sasural Simar ka and Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya hi Kijo. The post Winning the title, she also grabbed a role in movies like Paltan.

Season 13 – Sidharth Shukla

A renowned actor from Balika Vadhu and Badrinath ki Dulhaniya, Sidharth has grabbed a huge fan following before being a part of Bigg Boss. Even though the show was not the best he could be for publicity, he was named the winner of the show. Later he is been featured in serials and Music albums. His latest music album is Bhula Dunga is the latest buzz.

Season 14 – Rubina Diliak

Rubina Diliak is One of the most famous popular faces from Television. She is known for portraying Radhika in Zee TV’s Choti Bahu and Soumya Singh in Colors TV’s Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki. This Season Started from 3 October 2020 and end in 21 February 2021 with 143 days.
